When I started gaming, I had a good group of friends and a local game store where I held game nights. Then the unthinkable happened and my life completely changed with news that my girlfriend at the time (now wife) was pregnant with our son. Eventually, we moved away for a better start for our family. It was the best decision because we are doing great, but I lost my gaming group.

With my nighttime work schedule, it's been hard putting together a new group and finding the time. Board games vs. family.... Family wins every time. I started to compromise my collection with more family-friendly games and traded off most my more "complex" games for lighter/more accessible games.

This is a list of games that (while I have my reasons) I am too stubborn to let go or have been making seemingly ridiculous trade offers because I putting too much personal value in the games. So.. VENT TIME, here we go. May one of you can slap some sense into me.

This is probably the toughest one. I have never played a full game of this and have set it up just to have it put away moments later over 7 times. I was so excited when I first got it and the everything is still so promising inside.

It has gone on and off my trade list several times. Each trade attempt probably making me look like a lunatic or greedy gamer. It is officially off the trade list because it's missing a single token. I know some people wouldn't mind such a minor token missing, but I do and feel dirty trying to trade to anyone...

I really liked this game when I demoed it at the game shop, but my wife, friends, and family never wanted to touch it. I suppose it has too many moving parts for most, but I think the rules are simpler than they seem.

Regardless of my opinion, I never see this game hitting my table anytime soon, but I keep putting a ridiculous amount of personal value on the game and can't find a trade that I'd be okay with.

I like this game for what it is worth. Simple and light. I thought it would be an instant classic, but I let my father-in-law borrow it one weekend. He showed the game to a bunch of relatives and explained the rules wrong. He made every time you roll an extra number after your set give you that face value in points.

Let me illustrate:

instead of 3,3,3+3= 4 points
it was
3,3,3+3= 6 points.

It doesn't sound like a big deal until you hear stories of your mother-in-law winning in 2 turns because of lucky rolls and everyone was surprised that I was really endorsing a crappy game like this.

Although I explained the mistake on my father-in-law's part, it left a bad taste in everyone's mouth and they turn their noses up to this game now.

Another game that goes on and off my trade list. I love this one and harbor dreams of some day playing it with my son and daughter.

It is the only game that I own that someone stood up and walked out after having a mental meltdown. Funny, but scary. He came back later and tried again, but still couldn't get the machine to fit.

This game is great and I should get rid of it because no one wants to play it except me. I'm not big on solitaire gaming, but have played the solitaire rules more than I've played with other people.

I have a lot of good memories of this one, but after the move I can't find a big enough group to play. Even my wife likes this one and says she wants to play as soon as we find others that want to try it.

The loose good vs. evil theme is something that anyone can get behind, but the anime-ish whatever art makes a lot of people detractors at first glance. Lately, everyone that I show the box to gives me that "IIII don't KKNNOOOW" look.

Should trade, but the version comes with the expansion and my version doesn't. I give this game too much personal value and it's not like it has awesome components that I don't want to give up.

One of my favorite games. Hasn't hit the table for over a year and half. Lost of box wear, but I have most of the expansions. Before the move, this was the game that everyone played to try to beat me. For some reason, I'm uncannily good at this game and manage to always squeak out a victory. Lots of good memories, but it's not getting played.

I have all three of them and for some unknown reason I was compelled to trade to get the last one recently. I haven't played this game for over 2 years and still HAD to get the third installment.

These games are great for miniature war-gamers. Not as replacement for the expensive figs, but as a substitute for wanting to play without having the time. I keep holding onto the thought that my son will play this with me someday.

Duel of Ages 2 is out and I can't get the expansions for this one anymore. Even the people that have this and the expansions for trade are being fickle about it. I should just get the Duel of Ages 2 because my father-in-law and I still play this quite a bit. It's just that I know we like this version and I don't want to spend the money on Duel of Ages 2.

Also, I got this copy for 12 bucks... why am I so reluctant?
