So this is a reversal of my other geeklist... http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/163219/games-you-disli...

My wife and I have recently sold a load of games so that we could fund some others we were more interested in which led to this Geeklist...

Games you loved when you first got hold of them... but then, for whatever reason, you just fell out of love with (and now, may even hate it).

So my wife and I bought this having gotten into gaming by watching Wil Wheaton's TableTop show... we loved it to start with and I even got hold of the app for desktop and iPhone... it was so new and exciting. We were the investigators fighting the monsters and defeating baddies... that is until we started getting more complex and thematic games... at which point, when we played this, we just felt like we were playing a Yahtzee with a theme slapped on.

Such a shame, we loved it, but we ended up very bored with it and it had to go... sold it just this weekend.

Another game we purchased early on following the TableTop episode where it was featured.

Both having an interest in telling and writing stories, my wife and I loved this game to start with... we loved how macabre it was and that it allowed you to develop these fun and twisted stories... but then, for no particular reason, we just stopped wanting to hang out with it. A definite "It's not you, it's me" kind of moment... again, we sold this fairly recently.

Our first purchase of a game that we researched ourselves (i.e. we didn't watch on TableTop, then head out to buy it).

We thoroughly enjoyed this game to start with... it kicked us in the right direction for many games that followed, but somehow we just found it was coming to the table less and less... it just didn't engage us in the way it used to.

It's not that we hate this game... we're just indifferent. So sad.

I really loved this one after finally getting to play it after much waiting! We had tired of Pandemic, and this added in the much-needed random element that Pandemic was lacking for us (I know the cards are random, but once you set the cubes out, the best move is usually pretty easy to determine, and you can always count out your actions and see how it will exactly turn out).

Anyways, long story short, this game just takes too long to set up and too long to play to make it worth it for our group. Someone would suggest it and would immediately get shot down by the other 3 people as we want to get in multiple different good games instead of one long game.

While this game is fun and produces a lot of laughter, after only a few plays it has lost it shine for me. The is a lot of fun to be had for sure, with the right crowd, but this game still boils down to submit a card, read them and laugh, and pick you favorite....and there is nothing wrong with that, expect I can only take it for so long. I just need more from my games in the way of choices and decisions. After three games, I think I am done with this.

Based on BGG recommendations, we initially bought the basic set (with River) And Inns & Cathedrals. We had over 120 plays the first 2 months we owned it.

Then we started buying expansions. The more we bought, the less we liked them. Example: The Princess & Dragon lasted almost an entire game before getting tossed. We did keep some of the tiles.

Now, attitudes in the family seem to have changed. We used to be rather cut-throat - challenging each other for control of cities & intentionally "crashing" some cities. Now, it feels like double/triple solitaire when (if) we ever play.

[EDIT: NOT Inns & Taverns *sigh*]

I looooved GoW when I came out. I played all the missions; I got the pod expansion mission; I painted the minis, I played sooo many times... Now I hardly pull it out.
Not because I have played all the missions ('cause repeating a mission was never a problem), but the game itself.
It has become a draw, use cards, roll dice, hope for a good roll, move bad guys, repeat.

I get bored by turn 2... Thinking that I loooooved, GoW

This was the game that got me back into boardgaming. I bought this as an "extra" item to a Warhammer 40,000 reward I received after winning a local tourney. I liked it so much that I also bought the Tide of Iron: Days of the Fox and Tide of Iron: Normandy expansions.

Liked it, UNTIL I discovered BGG and other designer games. When I bought Small World I never looked back, and now sadly Tide of Iron just sits on my shelf, unplayed since the middle of last year.

As a side note, board games have also made me stop playing Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer: The Mass Combat Fantasy Roleplaying Game (1st Edition) as well, although I have invested too much into the systems for me to truly stop.

Yspahan is my most well traveled game. We have taken it on vacation everywhere. It is one game that the whole family enjoys. That said, I really just don't want to play it anymore. Not so much a reflection on the game as it is just the reality that there are so many other games contesting for my limited time.

Catan was not a gateway game for us. We came to it late and fell in love with it immediately. In the quest for Catan with 2P, we bought this. It was great the first 2 times we played. Then we realized with a whole shelf of 2P games that were all vastly superior to this one, there was no reason to ever play it again.

This one did exactly what I needed it to do when I bought it not too long ago. Despite the goofy theme, I found it to be tense and rewarding.

Then I picked up Gears of War which is basically the same game only fully fleshed out. I'm in the process of trading this one off now.

Edit: That sounds more like a games firing games entry. I was actually disinterested in this one before I picked up GoW... which conveniently scratched that itch.

Loved this at first (and there are still several aspects I really really love) but after a few too many games where cards clumped up poorly, the occasional "super screw you over" randomness really soured me on playing this often...also didn't care for some of the dynamic changes of Cities...

Now I try avoid it when possible (and only look to maybe play it in groups of 6 or 7), but I'll still play it.

This game was so much fun the first few times I played it, yet with every play it becomes less interesting. I hoped Illusions would breathe some life into it, but that hasn't happened yet.
It is still an excellent gateway game that I plan on keeping in my collection. I'll continue introducing it to non-gamers, as well as my son once he's older, but I think the day of bringing it to game nights is coming to a close.

Any game would meet the criteria of this list if it's simply overplayed. To really qualify it has to be something you definitely enjoyed the first couple of plays but has lost its' shine despite not being "solved" (there's more to explore but the prospect doesn't appeal.)

Thought this one was great when I got it. I liked the fact that it would be playable in a shorter time than regular Axis and Allies. Played the basic game....awesome. Played the Advanced game with variable cards.....great. But then after a couple more plays, it all came down to the same mass of troops and ending attacking the same last city. I don't really blame it as it IS D-Day after all and the scope of the landings sort of dictates the inward thrust. Just got stale really quick.

This was just an absolute favorite with my group for the longest time because of how easy it was to get in to. Not too complex, lots of backstabbing, random stuff to go adventuring and exploring.

But, it wasn't the game itself so much as the execution of the main mechanic; roll a die 1-3 = bad 4-6 = good. After awhile it just became exhausting and I couldn't get it out of my mind. I began to call it the 50/50 game, move to a space flip a coin and see if something good or bad happens. Yes, I know there are some variances in some of the encounters but I just couldn't see past this mechanic which began to drone on me despite the plethora of theme on the cards.

Anyway, I sold my copy along with all 5 expansions for $500.00 dollars and don't regret it to this day.

This can be a lot of fun but over time it seems to me that too much is dependant upon the initial captain's draw. Also, set up is a bit burdensome and the game often tends to draw out too long. I'd like to trade it but the kids keep calling for it. They call for it and then agree to quit the game about 3/4 through.
