I like to create house rules for my games, and I hate to waste perfectly good game cards.

Recently, I purchased Power Grid and a few of the expansions:
Power Grid: The New Power Plant Cards
Power Grid: The Robots
Power Grid: BGG Promo Card Set
Power Grid: Oracle & Industrial Espionage
Power Grid: Northern Europe/United Kingdom & Ireland

One of the cards is really for Power Grid: The First Sparks, but since I do not own that game, I was wondering how I could include this card into Power Grid itself.


I generally sleeve the cards in most of my games.
I also realized that there two extra "Step 3" cards, now that I have the various expansions.

So I could easily slide that card into one of the "Step 3" cards and then shuffle that into the deck of power plants.

In fact I could do that with several cards!
Most games of Power Grid eliminate particular power plants for particular maps.
So players could easily add these cards into the unused, sleeved power plants for that game, and then take them out after the game.

So here are my suggestions for using these cards in Power Grid.
Even if you do not sleeve your cards, you could still shuffle these cards in. Just try not to look when you are shuffling and be careful when picking cards from the power plant deck so as to not reveal these special cards.

Just use one of the summary cards, reading the table in reverse.

When this card is revealed, each player must immediately reveal all of their money and pay their taxes to the bank.
A player with up to 10 electros pays no taxes.
A player with 11 to 22 electros pays 1 elecro in taxes.
A player with 23 to 33 electros pays 2 electros in taxes.
...
A player with 143 to 145 electros pays 18 electros in taxes.
A player with 146 to 148 electros pays 19 electros in taxes.
A player with 149 to 150 electros pays 20 electros in taxes.
A player with 151 or more electros pays 21 electros in taxes.

This is just the title card that comes with the promo set.

When this card is revealed, each player immediately receives an extra 2 electros for each power plant then own.

If a player owns 3 power plants, the player collects 6 electros.
If a player owns 2 power plants, the player collects 4 electros.
If a player owns 1 power plant, the player collects 2 electros.
If a does not own a power plant, the player collect 0 electros.

Here is my variant for this card.
Play with this variant instead of the original rules.

When INSIDER TRADING card is revealed (as I am calling it for this variant), players bid for it as per the regular rules.

The player who wins the bid for this card gets a one time use of this card. Later in the game, that player will return this card to the box (it will be out of the game) and can then switch the last card in the Actual Market with the first card in the Future Market.
