Rats, forgot I hadn't done this.

We had a quick game of Coloretto but decided to use the alternative scoring. The way this works is that you still score 3 colours - but once you go over three-of-a-kind, the value starts to decrease. Interesting idea, but the overall feeling was that it didn't result in quite such a good game.

Final scores (positions) and ratings were:
Jim F 26 (1)
Andrew B2 23 (2)
Paul 22 (3)
'Hairy' Martin 20 (4)
Andrew 007 18 (5)

One of those rare games that could actually be improved by the introduction of dice.

My variant would be to roll a d6 before the game actually starts, and on a roll of 1-6 pack away the components back into the box and play something else instead.

In this game, Jeff using his jedi mind control on the tile-drawing, pulled out a hard fought victory just ahead of Andrew-007, Paul and Martin.

AndrewB2 must be commended for filling in for Gordon and keeping me company at the back of the field.

Unfortunately for me, I have a strong desire to play games again that I do badly in, so will continue to play this until the tile pulling planets align.

Rating 10.0 (ok 5.5 really)

Having planned a full 7 player game, we pulled this back to 6 based on availability and got started relatively quickly given the complex initial setup etc. from multiple expansions. Luckily we had the expert on hand to give a very thorough walkthrough of the variant rules.

It started well, with great progress being made and yes there were a few cylon ships jumping in, but they did little to hassle us. Quickly jumping on and passing easily all of the skill checks required, we started to wonder whether the cylons were playing a long game.

After the second jump however, moving us to 4 distance, we started to wonder whether the cylons had forgotten that they were toasters! The only minor issue being one of lack of food, the price to pay for jumping so far so early. Still no sign of metal - and very few ships harrying our fleet.

As we geared up for the third jump, we were mightily confused. It was all going far too easy...and continued to do so. Not even a sign of paranoia as for the most part, skill checks went exactly as planned and could be accounted for by the randomness factor.

And then our new member revealed himself as a cylon! We thought he was just a mischief maker but it turns our he was a toaster to boot, not that he could cause too much mischief as we were almost home and dry.

Finally Gareth did not reveal, but made it very clear through his words and actions that he must have found out he had been built in a factory. He tried his upmost to cause mischief, but that just prolonged his agony.

The humans inevitably won, in what must be the most straightforward gae of BSG I have ever seen. Where was the conflict? Where was the paranoia?

I guess it just shows you what humanity can achieve if they just work together (either that or that under extreme conditions, the it is just possible that the game can HUGELY benefit the humans). I don't think it will be quite so easy ever again.

Both cylons must have been very downhearted to find out halfway through the game that they were toasters - since the game was pretty much done by that stage. Sorry guys!
