Sadly, it seems that scoretracks are often a design afterthought, which can lead to many a frustrating experience. The aim of the vast majority of games is to score points, but if this cannot be recorded accurately and with the minimum of fuss then the whole gaming experience can be soured.

If you are as finicky as me then please feel free to add to the list - good or bad

Before we look at bad design, here is a quick look at one of my favourites. Bold, clear and easy to use, although it does have the advantage of being a large board which helps.

The main problem with this one is that the scoring tokens are too big for the track, which makes things especially difficult when they are clustered together.

Thismaybe just me being a bit dyslexic, but I get confused with the zig-zag design as to which way I need to move

The scoring track and counters are tiny, add to this the fact that you also have to use counters to mark 50 and 100 points on the track and it all becomes very fiddly

My only problem with this one is that the corner spaces are not that well defined and tend to merge together.

This one tries to do things a bit differently, but the stacked wooden arches are all to easy to topple over

The trigger for putting together this list, it must be the the worst I have come across- dark, fuzzy and a right pain.

Love this game, but really bugged by the crystal track!

For starters, the spaces are only big enough for one tracking cube. We regularly play with two and trying to score with four players is a royal pain in the backside if they all end up on the same space (unless of course you love stacking tiny cubes, in which case, yay! shake).

Secondly, the layout of the numbers can get frustrating due to the first two rows and the final row.

This is only a minor issue in a fantastic game though... oh, one more thing... really don't roll the dice near the track, giant dice + tiny cubes = scoring disaster surprise

The board for the base Quarriors game zig zags too, but that wasn't so bad once you got used to it... But the board for this expansion looks very much the same with more scoring spaces, but doesn't zigzag.. Maybe they thought they were fixing it? Regardless, its pretty annoying...

Just picked up this game in a math trade, and I think this score track is asking for confusion.

I really like this game. The score track actually looks very nice as part of the design including the score markers.

Functionally, the small score markers and the zig-zag between each number of the track makes it harder than it needs to be.
