I just had this thought when I was at the harbour today, practicing along with a few guys from the staff at school for the annual rowing competition at school, that I should ask about the sea in some way. So, as I'm born on a farm (literally, I was a bit ahead of schedule and my mother was therefore still at home when I arrived) I'm not much of a seaman / sailor. And hardly know anything about the sea, except that it's wet. And cold. And a bit salty. And there are fish and stuff in it...

Anyway, my question is this: What experience do you have with sailing, boats or ships?

I've got a big family. Three brothers and one half-brother. My father has 5 siblings, my mother 9. Sometimes the families or grand-families (is that a word?) meet up, like, every 5 years or so. So when my mother's family meets up we have up to 100 people of all ages meet up for a weekend of fun. This is a common thing here in Iceland, but I'm curious about whether this is something that is done elsewhere?

I managed a whole week without playing a single game with any of my children, which is very unusual, but had a whole day of gaming at Gradpad Games on Saturday and an afternoon gaming with a friend, as well as our usual Friday night games session, and the odd other game with my husband, so it was still a busy week of gaming.

4 x The City
2 x Agricola (twice in one day - my friend wanted revenge for how badly I beat her the first time!)
2 x The Palaces of Carrara (tried the expansion this time, and it definitely gives you a lot more to think about!)

1 x 7 Wonders, Ausgebremst, Crazy Race, Domaine, Fauna, Galaxy: the dark ages, Innovation, Liar's Dice, Manager, Mississippi queen, Mondo, Monopoly the card game, Notre Dame, Hick Hack, Qwixx, Race for the Galaxy, Raj, The Resistance, Roll Through the Ages, Seasons, Starship Catan, Suburbia, Thebes, Trains

EDIT:
Just remembered I did play one game with my kids - a game of The London Game with my youngest while we were at my parents - just forgot to log a play of it!

I only played a few short games last week. Some with my kids and some with grownups. I introduced my parents to Kakerlakenpoker which was great, they loved it. The rest was less spectacular. But I had a great, great Saturday. I was one of three designers invited to a public workshop about game design, along with Uwe Rosenberg and Reinhold Wittig. We weren't really told what was expected of us, so the first hour or so was a little unfocused. But I happened to have a prototype of a friend with me (really just a coincidence), and Uwe and Reinhold played it. So the event kind of developed into an editor's conference, and chances are that we will see a published version of the game in the future... a great thing to observe (and I am thrilled about it because I love that game, too).

3 x Topfrosch
2 x 90 Grad
2 x Kakerlakenpoker
2 x Playmobil Soccer Match
1 x Duck, Duck, Bruce
1 x Der kleine Drache Kokosnuss und das Geheimnis der Mumie
1 x Rhino Hero
1 x Schoko-Hexe

I don't think that Bruges will ever rate more than a -7- for me. There just isn't quite enough going on for it to climb into the rare air. But it remains the Latest Greatest at my home for the moment, and thus achieves the status of being the first ever back-to-back Game-of-the-Week.

No I didn't play Chicken Cha Cha Cha, but I did order it finally after seeing so many of you enjoy it. My copy should arrive in time for the weekend.

Games I did play with my kids:
Villa Paletti got 2 plays of this in.
Bamboleo and 2 or 3 of this in.
King's Court And 1 on this in.

Games I played w/ friends:
Star Wars: Edge of the Empire Friday night a group of friends and I started a campaign of this...my sister in law who was visiting laughed at me. cry

I also got a mini painted from my Reaper Bones mini's, guy fit perfect with my Star Wars character...more laughing from the sister in law.

I really think I played love letter too, but I didn't log it and this week was a blur.

The highlight of the week was taking a soft mini football outside w/ my kids and playing our first game of CalvinBall!!! I have never laughed so hard playing an outdoor game. It was a hoot.

Woohoo, big gaming last week!

It was the local con weekend, and my son and I went for both days, from morning to late afternoon. We also met three of his friends there, so I played most of my games with 12 year old boys. This age range (perhaps) explains the strong influence of Munchkin on the weekend! To tell the truth, I'd never played Munchkin, and it wasn't bad, and I laughed a bit, and enjoyed the silly adolescent humor. It can go on long, though. Glad I got to enjoy some other games later on! So, the weekend included:

2x Munchkin
1x Catan
2x King of Tokyo YAY, quite like this one
1x Shadows over Camelot Traitor won
1x The Resistance Close & tense, spies won, my son was happy!
1x Ticket to Ride: Europe
1x Merchants & Marauders My son + his 3 friends, I didn't play
and
1x Libertalia I played this instead!

Quite liked Libertalia, has some similarities to Mission: Red Planet, which we own and I really like. I was able to join a 6-player game with random folks at the con - it's not too complicated, but there are a lot of potential interactions with the cards being played to consider. The first turns seemed chaotic and brain-exploding, but I sort of got the hang of it by later turns. It's on my wishlist now, we'll see.

Also, purchased
and that'll be a story for next week!

Another chicken game, but for a different reason: we got four chickens last weekend! We’ve been talking about it for a couple of years, but it seems like building a coop, figuring out where to put it, etc, have always taken a back seat to more pressing issues.

A couple of weeks ago, some friends were getting rid of their coop, and the local urban farming store had a last-chickens-of-the-year sale, so the time seemed right. We decided to grab four different breeds just for fun, and have set them up in a cozy coop in the backyard. Here are the girls right after we brought them home. I love all the different colors & patterns in their feathers:

In celebration, the kids played Chuck-It Chicken! and Chicken Cha Cha Cha.

My son and I also played Mission Command Sea, Monza,Tsuro, and Scotland Yard twice. I really love that game. My son always plays Mister X, and isn’t that great at it yet, but it’s still great fun chasing him down!
