My life summed up?

"This little tent seems small indeed."

From the book: Soldier of the Mist by Gene Wolfe which was the book in my nearest vicinity.

It is creepy how fitting it is...

"The difficulties were immense."

From Revolution 1989 The Fall of the Soviet Empire by Victor Sebestyen.

Not sure how well that fits. There have been trials for certain but I made it through everything OK and compared to some folks pretty much have cruised through life so far without too terribly much trouble.

The books nearest to me were a bunch of computer game strategy guides, with the Neverwinter Nights Adventure Guide (Versus Books, authors Loe and Eastwood) being the closest.

I think it would have been more accurate if it read "Man's Land" ...

Hmmm....

The quote, when taken very specifically, refers to coffee. And I do drink coffee regularly. I'm going to try not to think too hard about the more general implications of the quote.

Note: The book that was closest to me when I pulled up this GeekList was on my wife's desk. It's on her reading list. I'm waiting on the first book in the series (Oryx and Crake) to get to me through the library system.

Taken from "CAD-UL Assembler for x86 Protected Mode Reference Manual" by CAD-UL AG (no actual author specified).

"The debug registers are the control registers CR0, CR2 and CR3; the debug registers DR0, DR1, DR2, DR3, DR6 and DR7 and the test registers TR3, TR4, TR5 (80486 and above), TR6 and TR7."

Before you ask, this is not my book, I never read it (except for page 45). In fact page 45 only contains this sentence. I know what registers are in assembler (wrote just one such program in college), but the above sentence doesn't make things clearer.

I'd like to make two things clear: 1. this sentence doesn't sum me up. 2. This sentence probably doesn't sum anyone up.
I'm in the office, have no books at my desk, so was forced to take a reference manual so boring, it qualifies as a reference manual. If you're cynical, you may call it a Euro. I shall not go and look for a more appropriate book. I just don't rate my chances with the other six books stacked beside it.

This is from the Star King by Jack Vance (the closest book at hand even though I wasn't reading it recently). Does it apply to my life? Of course it does, this is a great book and the number of times I had to get something back from Lugo (not his real name) is a truly impressive number. I even keep a spare spaceship in the area in just the event that the ownership of one is important.
