I won't lie: I'm blessed.

I got a loving job, two wonderful children, a supportive family, a steady job where I actually look forward to going to work ... life is good.

And it's not like I need a million dollars, or even a six-figure salary (though that would be nice). I'm perfectly content with living within our means and enjoying all that entails.

And yet ...

I have dreams. The type I fantasize about, but know in my heart will never happen. Perhaps due to long odds, or perhaps due to interia on my own part. But no matter, there are things I would really love to see or do that I doubt I'll ever experience.

And so, with respect to Molly Hatchet:

Appear on a reality game show.

One of my favorite shows is Amazing Race. I would really love to go on this show at some point in my life, preferably while I'm still young enough to feel I have a chance.

There's actually a local tryout this Saturday. But there's no way I'd be able to go on such a show.

We just had our 2nd child, and our older child is still only in 2nd grade. There's no way I could just leave my wife alone with them for a whole month. I know others have done so, but it's not a sacrifice I'm ready to make.

I'd love to try out for Survivor too, but I'm far from a decent swimmer, and I don't have the social ability (I don't think) to last too long. Admittedly, though, if a guy like Cochrane could win it all by unanimous decision ...

Doubt I'll ever know for certain.

Witness a Philadelphia sports team win another championship.

I watched Game 5 of the 2008 World Series at home. I watched that final "swing and a miss". I saw the Phillies beat the Rays to win it all.

I cried. The same way I did when my son was born.

It was 25 years in the making. Now, it looks like another 25 years to the next one. Or more.

During the calendar year of 2013, all four pro teams (Phillies, Eagles, Sixers, Flyers) either fired their coach/manager or watched him walk away. I don't even know if that's ever happened before, in any city.

Look, I know this is not an isolated issue. I have soft spots for anyone who roots for Cleveland, or Buffalo, Seattle, Minneapolis ... there's cases to be made that they got it worse.

But I've been a Philly sports fan my whole life. And in all honestly, there is no hope on the horizon.

At least the Phillies got one. But this team is over the hill, with precious little to work with in the farm system.

The Flyers are a running joke every year with their goaltending woes, with inept management and a style of play forever relegated to history. They've gone the longest of any US city with at least one Stanley Cup victory to have won one, trailing only Toronto in all of the NHL.

The Sixers may as well put ads out about how they're going to lose 76 for the 76ers. And while they might have the greatest long-term upside, I can't help but think they'll be relocated to Newark by the time that happens, a la OK City.

And then there's the Eagles. Three championships in all their history, and none since the Super Bowl era. A mediocre team, in a dismal division.

*sigh*

(Oh, and please don't start dredging up MLS, or Lacrosse, or Arena Football. I think the WBC outdraws those championships.)

Speaking of which ...

Win an event at the WBC.

Seven years. Seven trips. Over a dozen appearances at Final tables.

Sheer chance would dictate I'd have a win, right? Nope.

Sometimes it's an outright blunder that takes me out. Other times I play as good a game as I can, only to be bested by a handful of points.

It would probably be easier to deal with, were I not filled with envy at many fellow gamers at my club who've tasted victory (some multiple times). Don't get me wrong: I'm thrilled that they've succeeded. But I honestly feel I'm as good as any of them, so why do I always come up short?

I'm a glutton for punishment, I guess. I only got in a long weekend this year, but I plan to be back for 2014.

EDIT: 20th time proved to be the charm! (I'm now 1-for-22.)

Travel across an ocean.

I'm been outside the US. Specifically, Toronto, for a week, for a chess tournament. (I barely left the hotel.)

Also, a honeymoon cruise to Bermuda. (Again, I know I've been blessed. Not complaining.)

After that? I went to Las Vegas once. Take those trips away, and I've barely moved around.

I've never been to Europe. My wife has, long before I met her. I'd love to spend a week in England, or France, or Germany.

But it's not like we got money for such things, or time, or the ability to take small kids and kennel the dogs up for so long.

Maybe this is why I enjoying the shows I mentioned earlier. At least I can live vicariously through the players.

Be "Geek of the Week".

I'd like to believe that everyone who comes here has that desire to be so honored.

I also know that there's always going to be someone more worthy out there. But it's really not like I ought to complain, as:

- I've never contributed financially to BGG.
- I barely update my profile.
- I've never spent much time in Geek Chat.
- I've never contributed much to forums.
- I've never posted about these desires.
- And finally, I've never been that popular.

I'm sure, if I really wanted to rectify this, I could take a more active position around here. But there's only so much time in a day, and I have a lot going on at home to occupy my time.

Once again, I love my life. I really do. I'm at a peace with myself that I haven't felt since ... maybe, ever. And, I suppose, it's nice to have high aspirations, or at least, something to dream about when it's time to turn in for the night.

Well, I've said what I wanted to say. To anyone who's read all this, I thank you for your time. If anyone else would like to post about hopes and dreams that seem unattainable, I'd be interested.

EDIT: one dream lived out, four to go!
