Best pimped boardgame of the month, September 2013, 37th edition

How to submit an image of your pimped boardgame?

Just add a geeklist item, where it asks for a ImageID add the number of your photo there. Use [imageid=xxxxxx medium] in the body of the List Entry, where "xxxxxx" is the ImageID number, to show the image at a reasonable size as that helps people judge your image better, and make sure to remove the space. If you have questions please geekmail me and I will help.

Rules:

1) You can submit up to 3 entries.

2) Each entry can contain up to 2 images.

3) That image(s) has to be one of your own. If you like a pimped game of another user, please ask for permission to submission.

4) The image(s) was uploaded during the month in question.

5) Images from your User Gallery are eligible, and images from any other Gallery.

7) It is possible to include a link to a geeklist or a thread, where you find more details about the pimped boardgame.

8) Users may vote for (give a thumb up to) as many entries as they wish.

9) Winners will be declared when the next month's list goes up.

10) In case of a tie, the prize will be split equally among all the tied people.

11) I will randomly reorder this list so that the first-come first-thumbed effect is lessened.

Prizes

Three will be awarded:

First place:

50 bag + microbadge golden teapot mb

Second place:

25 bag

Third place:

10 bag

extra prize (each thumb up giver):

5 bag randomly one person, who gives this list a thumb up.

So make sure to give this list a thumbsup so that we can keep this list on the front page as long as possible!!! You have the chance to win bag. And there will be more participants -> more pimped games to see!!!

This is a painted Ghost Stories my wife and I did for a fellow BGG user in Sweden. All painted with GW paints.

The Taoists have been each assigned an element. A little freehand on their kimonos is related to that element, and the chinese character for that element is written on their forehead.

More pictures can be seen on this thread. =)

Complete redesign of Advanced Civilization

Something I have been planning for and working on for about a year, on and off. Redesigned all components, exchanged all markers for wooden bits. Included are the western map extension and the trade cities expansion. In the process, I streamlined all components a bit, reducing setup time and the need to look up rules quite so often and making access easier for new players. It works quite well and made it possible to get this game to the table a lot more often.

Setup positions and board areas used for different player counts are marked on the board. The census runs along the whole lower end of the board, to show relative population sizes at a glance. The player mats shrunk a bit, the bits are stored to the left and the right of them. Scales allow to easily count your units / money. Colours and nations are not connected any more so you can freely combine them any way you want.

The cards got a complete overhaul; trading goods now have the values on the left, to easier see where you're at with your hand at the moment without the need to permanently rearrange you hand to look at stuff. Additional cards remind you of which trading cities you control at the moment. The disaster cards have all the rules on them (well, almost), the Civ cards got new illustrations and also contain all rules. Each nation has its own deck with different backs. Civ cards now show which cards they get a discount from instead of which ones they give a discount to, something we found to make buying calculations a whole lot easier.

The map has been resized a bit as well, enlarging some of the more fiddly areas in the middle (islands around greece and so forth) at the cost of historical accuracy. Population limits are expressed through the number of dots in each region, to allow for easier reading from further away. Oh, and some other stuff I probably forgot.

Find some more pictures in the Advanced Civ image gallery.

Labyrintus is a print and play game. I took it a step further and used my laser to make:

- a 3D board

- Player pieces

- Custom dice

The board is made of four pieces that lock together. There are four long walls for around the outside, and lots of smaller walls for the inside. I made player pieces and painted them four different colors. I also cut custom dies, two sides have wall symbols and the other four sides have a "4" on them.

I still have to make a wooden box to keep it all in.

Top shows the board assembled, bottom is the board ready to be put in a box.

Top is my details image of my playing pieces, bottom is a close up of the custom dice.

There are some more images in the BGG Image Gallery for Labyrintus

Please consider my entry into the contest.

We tried to keep bright and vivid colors as the game itself is very colorful.

Another just for fun entry. This project was a month long experience. It started off by me buying a kiwi & Pūkeko tic-tac-toe set, which are the blue & brown birds you see in the pictures at the thriftstore. I kinda had the idea to make a Shear Panic set with them but then it was suggested that these would also work with Hey, That's My Fish & Splut!. Because the birds were from New Zealand I used that as the theme. I made all the extra pieces from Fimo doll formula & painted them with acrylics. I based the bought pieces so they'd work with the other pieces.

To make these work with 'Hey, Where's My Egg' I had to make 4 of each bird. The egg tiles were mounted on foamcore which I'm not too happy with, I'll remake them & mount them on Risk boards later.

For Splut! I designed a board which can be downloaded HERE. Two of each of the birds needed to be unique to work as the Sorcerer & Ogre. I put a stick into the Stick Goddesses & the egg is the Ogre. The large green Shining Cuckoo eggs are the stones.

For 'Egg Panic'I made 3 more figures, The Garden(Roger), The Possum(The Shearer), & The Shining Cuckoo(The Black Sheep). I made a simple scoreboard & just printed it on 110 & laminated it. The player's boards are just modified from a file on the game page to fit my theme.

I'm mostly happy with it other than the hexes and made a THREAD detailing the process with more images.

First time poster here so please be nice. My first submission is my game mat. Due to excessive use, my game board was beginning to rip, so I used a program and revised the gameboard layout and had it printed on a mat which allows me to roll it up and take it wherever! I also posted a link so other players could download the mat and get it printed as well. http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1010745/custom-game-mat-and-...

I didn´t finish this project this month, but the pictures are from this september.

This is a standard paint the miniatures pimp job and the miniatures are from the base game and the two expantions Mansions of Madness: Forbidden Alchemy and Mansions of Madness: Call of the Wild .

What I liked with the project is that I got to paint some "modern" figures like the investigators and that I could use some of my old, almost never used, pink paint on the monsters.

As monsters are coolest I´ll include two pictures of them.

A comment on the call of the wild expantion was that it was kind of frustrating with the goat spawn and child of the goat monsters as no Lovecraft sources seem to mention them. What are they? How should they be painted?

If someone is interesting the rest of the miniatures are here: My non GW miniature painting projects.

I repainted the Red and Natural Houses and Pawns to White and Orange, filled in the icons missing from the map and glued the Fire Tokens and Pawns onto 3mm x 20mm diameter wooden bases to stop them falling over so easy. This was the Prime Games 1st Edition that had quite a few issues.

A pretty heavy customization project which involved most of the game's components:

-With the envelopes being an exact fit for the verdict cards, we ran into some issues where the cards would occasional slip up slightly within the envelopes as they were being handed over and reveal which side's colour was face-up. So I took apart one of the envelopes, scanned it, and used the image to create longer envelopes which I then had to print out, cut out, fold, and glue together.

-The Sherlock Holmes business cards were a little too wide and wouldn't fit properly when placed in adjacent board spaces, so I trimmed the top and bottom of each one. Additionally, to prevent them sliding around on the board and to make them easier to handle by giving them some thickness, I stuck an adhesive rubbery backing on each one.

-The little, round deduction counters are a bit difficult to handle, especially since players need to be flipping them fairly frequently to see the numbers on the back. To replace them, I purchased wooden discs in each of the player colours and placed the appropriate number stickers on one side of them.

-Since my memory isn't much good, I created player aid sheets containing all the clues so that players could secretly record whatever information came to them. I had my sheets laminated and acquired a dry-erase marker in each of the player colours (substituting a black marker for white and an orange for yellow, for the sake of legibility) so that they could be re-used from game to game. One of those sheet can be seen here:

More photos of my custom components can be seen in the Lady Alice image gallery.
