Following in the example of Andy Stallard and his excellent PnP List, I decided to follow suit and show y'all what in PnP has turned me on. I will try to keep this to things I have something positive to say about which in no way should be construed as if its not on this list its not worth getting. One of the things I LOVE about gaming (and in particular PnP gaming) is that there are so many different styles of game and play that there really is something for everyone. So this will stick to the ones that struck my gaming bone hardest!

The Mean Streets of Chicago, by Lord Malachi

Of course I am going to top the list with the games I have submitted or redesigned! First off is the entry in this years Solitaire PnP contest that I am most proud of. The Mean Streets Of Chicago. Again let me call on Andy to explain the game:

"You give me your land or you will meet my friend Tommy...Capish?"

Dice rolling doesn't quite have the same effect of pulling the trigger, but sure is fun to be a gangster.

Prohibition Chicago, your objective is to control as many locations as possible, gaining wealth and reputation in the process and if you want to overthrow the current boss to become the Capo Di Capi.

How you succeed is your choice. Do you assign dice to try and obtain more locations, that will in turn increase your wealth and reputation; do you buy reputation, that will allow you to have more dice; do you buy Henchmen to protect your property or invest in some other ill gained goods?

Once dice are assigned you have to succeed in the throw to obtain the goods. Just close your eyes and pull the trigger...Bang!

This is Victory points driven game. You can overthrow Da Boss but is not necessary.

My second submission to the 2013 PnP Solitiare contest, is a direct descendant of Mads L. Brynnum's Dice Of Arkham. Once I finished the first version I sent it off to Mads to ask what I should do with it. Should it be with his game? Should it stand on its own. We both agreed that enough had been changed that this deserved its own entry here on the Geek.

After the Cylons destroyed the 12 colonies of man a rag-tag fleet of the last remaining humans set off to find the home of the lost 13th tribe, and hopefully a new home. This is Solo Express Battlestar Express! Games typically run 15-25 minutes and truly give you as much of the board game/story experience as you can get in that amount of time, by yourself! A Single sheet, some generic tokens and 8d6 (6 of one color 2 of another) are all that's needed to play this awesome adaptation!

One of the Dark Horses of the 2013 PnP contest it was submitted essentially on the last day of the contest. This is a truly raw gem that bodes to be stellar by the time the contest is over. The framework really allowed for adaptation which the author is taking full advantage of to improve the game. Once the contest is over, be looking for an improved version of this game to surface along with some gorgeous high-res full color art and a play area you can layout how you like (to some extent) to go along with it!

A completely fun and fulfilling worker placement game with an excellent event/AI mechanic. Challenging and original, this game is fast working into my regular rotation of time killers! Minimal construction (especially if you have generic tokens laying about) and the art is gorgeous! I highly recommend giving it a try.

Colony 9, by Santiago Eximeno

A fellow entrant in the 2013 PnP Solitaire contest this has one of the more original mechanics I have seen in a PnP game and as such it is also one of the most CHALLENGING! You must prepare a colony to be ready for the incoming delegation (dictated by the mission you choose to accept). Interesting missions, events and disasters await you as you stuggle against the clock. Worth the work!

This was the first game I tried of this years contestants. I liked it so much that I re-type set the rules to condense them down to 4 pages from the original 14 as well as clearing up some of the more spotty translations. This game really is worth a try if you are looking for something fun, unique and original.

Dice Of Arkham, by Mads L. Brynnum

The game that inspired my OTHER entry in the 2013 PnP Contest, Galactidice BSG, is Mads L. Brynnum's Dice Of Arkham. One of the first PnP that made me play again and again! I love it so much I did a redesign of the play-sheet (it may look familiar to those of you who have played Galactidice already). I had so much fun doing that, I wrote a new scenario for it. And while trying to think of what to do for a third new scenario I created Galactidice.

This one STILL is a blast to play though. Arkham Horror in 30 minutes or less or your pizza is FREE!

What more can be said about this awesome solo implementation of Pandemic that hasn't already been said by countless others. If you are even SLIGHTLY a fan of Pandemic you MUST have this game. Playable in 20-30 minutes it completely captures the feel of the original. Colored dice are not required but a paint pen and some disposeable six sided dice really help to streamline the play and keep the theme alive, not that it needs MUCH help! Seriously if you have not given this a try yet GO DO SO NOW! I highly recommend the hexed version of the map as well as the European Union Hexed version!

Wrath Of The Ancients (aka Damn You!), by Ken Maher

This was the first major project I undertook after getting into PnP gaming. I really loved the theme and mechanic. The theme is light but the mechanic is strong along with a unique take on movement. A little while back I took the time to re-skin it giving it a better over all look (imho)as well as providing files that you could actually get consistent hex tiles out of without a specialized hex cutter! LOL The game deserves better than its rank on here and for a FREE multi-player game I would whole-heartedly recommend it!

I busted this one out at the end of a recent gaming night at my local hobby shop. Played on 9 cards players vie for the center "sector" to boost their victory points. Each game lasts 10 turns and for such a simple mechanic it plays wonderfully! Definitely holding on to this one!

A deceptively simple game, this has provided me with several play-through's of unique entertainment. A deck driven game with locations and events, the play is different every game. Resource Management, Technology Investments and Military Upgrades are all part of your path to ruling the universe! Loads of fun!

A wonderful little time killer, that I have yet to lose (although I have had a few VERY close calls). Super fast and easy gameplay that is just a blast to play. You must repair your truck before the zombies overwhelm you. Die assigment is key to this game as well as a bit of luck and knowing when to RUN FOR IT!

Delve: The Dice Game, by Drew Chamberlain

A completely addicting single page game that is an absolute blast to play. A simple dungeon crawler where you hack and slash your way through to the end strategically using your characters to maximize your crawl. The expansion scenario is SERIOUSLY tough (I have yet to beat it) and there are tons of other fan-made scenarios and settings available. Got 10 minutes to kill and some d6's laying about? This one's for you!

A fun little game of questing that is also light on the materials. A nice gaming mechanic that should be familiar to most guide this wonderfully random (for such a small board/world) that is absolutely fun to play! Light on the paper, light on the ink, heavy on fun!

A very challenging little game where you must repair your rocket which has crash landed on an alien world. Action assignment, exploration and even hunting down food all make this an excellent if time challenged game. I have yet to beat it but I still try every week or two. One of these days... one of these days... BANG ZOOM! RIGHT OFF THE MOON!

Very much the same mechanic as Planet Run but somehow an easier game. You run a game development studio trying to create the next big video game. Again action assignment is key as well as a bit of luck in your draws. Fun but not as challenging as Planet Run. Still its a light game that can be easily assembled and played. Worth a shot.
