First up a short filler to get everyone warmed up.
Anyone say "Ave Bingo"?
Brent took off early filling cards and at the beginning it looked like he was going to be the runaway winner.
For some reason, everything thought I was the one to watch out for but, I chose some 16 point cards to fill out and the luck of the draw was not with me.
In spite of protesting the entire game that he was getting wiped, it was Todd that pulled ahead for the win.
Nice strategy.

Todd: 59
Brent: 53
Kevin: 43
Dave: 38
Denise: 27
(Sorry Michael: missed your score)

Although she get last place in this game, Denise was about to get her revenge when her favorite new game came out next....

We decided to break up into 2 groups of 3 for the next part of the day.
I grabbed my favorite new acquisition from Gen-Con with no argument from Denise.
Kevin had heard about it and wanted to take it for a spin.
Palaces of Carrara has gotten a lot of play since the convention and for good reason. Very easy to learn, only a few different things you can do on any one turn, and although there is some real "think" in the box, it tends to move very quickly.
It usually wraps in in 60-70 minutes.

Kevin caught on quickly and was out with his first building in about 3 turns.
Very unusual game objectives this time around with
a) a minimum of 3 +5 or better buildings needed.
b) at least 4 different wood pieces to complete
and
c) at least 2 buildings in 3 different cities needed to win.

The challenge at the start of the game was that there were no 5 or 8 block buildings out on the board.
Kevin was building what he could right away and actually got the first 8 building that appeared.

Denise was meticulous was building only when she needed to and building in the yellow and blue cities exclusively.

I thought I had her at one point, but was stymied by having the wrong color brick at the right time.

When the smoke cleared, Denise had won Palaces again.

The one good thing about it was that she did not lap everyone this time around.

Final scores:
Denise: 83
Dave: 53
Kevin: 12

Kevin liked it enough that he said he wanted to play again right away and we would have except with Denise having to go, we were left with 5 players and Palaces sits a max of 4.
Next time Kevin, next time.

The other group of 3 headed over to play one of the "classics" of our game group, Stone Age.
Todd mentioned that he thought it was only a couple of years old while I told him it was at least 3-4 (as if classic is a 4 year old game...)

But classic it is.
I thought from hearing the talk at the other table that Brent was running away with it, but when the smoke cleared, it was Todd holding the victory.

Todd: 230
Brent: 205
Michael: 197

Kevin wanted to play Trajan, but we only had about 70-90 minutes till Brent had to leave so I suggested this newer Feld.
There is a lot of talk about whether "Rialto" or "Brugge" is the better new Feld.
Most say Brugge (which is very good), but I have to go with Rialto as the better of the two.

Plus with 5 total, Brugge was out of the questions with it's maximum head room of 4.
Only Michael and I had played before, so we ran through the rules and we were off and going.
Took about a city and a half for everyone to settle in and grok the game, but after that, it ran pretty smoothly.
I jumped out to a 4 space lead on the Doge track, but that did not last very long.
Everyone was fighting for Doge after that and frankly, I just did not build enough buildings (which are good for victory points...doh) and finished in the middle of the pack.
Michael won handily with the rest of us left to lick our wounds.

Michael: 62
Brent: 51 (TB) - Further on Doge track
Todd: 51
Dave: 46
Kevin: 45

Kevin was not sure if it was one of Feld's best, but he said he would play it again before making a final determination.

Post Gen-Con, Parade has become our go to final game at each meet up.
The more I play it, the more I like it.
Plus the artwork is just stellar.

My theory with this game is simple.
Go for no cards or all the cards you can grab.
(Duh)

Game #1
Todd was going into the end of the game with 1 point.
He had been playing 9s and 10s consistently and the parade was never longer than that. However at the end, he did have to eat some points, but not enough to keep him from the victory.

Low score wins:
Todd: 10
Kevin: 20
Dave: 22
Mike: 49

Game #2
Well, I got lucky enough to get those high cards this time around (Todd strategy) but had to eat 10 points at the end.
Still enough to hold folks off and take the victory.
(insert victory dance here....)

Dave: 14
Todd: 21
Kevin: 23
Mike: 30
