I'm merely keeping the seat warm for this month. Sorry it's a bit late in arriving, but better late than never.

Taking part is easy:

1) Add the game of the miniature you painted as an item to the list.

2) Add the picture of your painted miniature in the comment section for that game.

(use the format [imageid=xxxxxmedium] where xxxxx is the id of the picture)

That way people will be able to better judge your work. Medium should be sufficient please do not use large.

Rules:

1) The image you submit must have been uploaded during September 2013. Gallery images are ok but submitted images are preferred. As they've gone through the geek mod process it guarantees the picture quality and it's also easier to check the submission date. The contest will end on October 31st.

2) You are the artist. Do not submit miniatures painted by someone else.

3) One entry per person. You may, however, use up to two pictures of your entry to the front and back of the miniature.

4) The winner will be the picture with the most thumbs. You can thumb as many as you like.

5) If you can; include the make of the mini, scale and what paints you used in your entry.

Prizes:

Unfortunateley I'm reliant on tips to offer decent prizes at the moment as I don't have a huge amount of geekgold.

Any tips received will awarded as follows:

1st place: 50%
2nd place: 37.5%
3rd place: 12.5%

So if the tip total comes to 40 geekgold 1st will get 20, 2nd 15 and 3rd 5 etc.

I'll round down tips and put the remainder towards future prizes.

Judging at the end of the month and winners will appear in the next months list.

1st place will now also receive an exclusive microbadge! mb

Please give this geeklist a thumb to help get it to the front page. The more contestants the better!

And don't forget to click on the images you like and give the actual images thumbs up as well!

Click here for an excellent guide on taking photos of minis. Thanks to

Golden Turtleback Painted Miniatures Contest previous (and current) contests

Attention anyone feeling too daunted to enter!
We now have on offer for entries finishing outside of the top three so enter even if you think you don't stand a chance of winning. This will be awarded at my discretion and perhaps even split amongst several entries.

Our more experienced painters will be able to offer advice and several people have already said they've learnt something simply by seeing their work next to work they consider to be of a higher standard.
So please enter anyway, you've really got nothing to lose.

Here's a 28mm Reaper Miniatures modern lawman from their Bones I Kickstarter campaign:

The miniature was painted with Vallejo and P3 paints and I used old GW washes and inks.

This miniature was not undercoated (but was washed in warm water with detergent) as Bones miniatures are not supposed to require undercoat. The miniature is okay but not as detailed as a lead or hard plastic miniature would be. The base is sculpted to be wood planking but, as you can see, is a bit bent.

So, not a bad, but not a great miniature. Despite being okay value I will not be backing Bones II as I have plenty of miniatures of comparable theme and quality already thanks to Bones I and the cost of international postage is really off-putting.

So, here's my entry! This time, it's another single figure, a Necromancer model from Warhammer Fantasy. This was a plain fun model to paint - the red robes turned out especially well. I left his eyes black on purpose, since I figured years dealing in the dark arts would do more than just give you a hunch and a nasty snaggle-toothed leer.

I used Vallejo and Citadel paints, with liberal amounts of matte acrylic medium to get smooth blends. The dust on the model is real dust that I didn't even know was there until I looked at the pictures.

I painted the Hounds of Tindalos this month. My picture isn't great, as I'm using my phone, but it looks great in person. I feel like my skills are greatly improving even after painting for only a month.

The heroes and artifacts from Shadows Over Camelot. I used mostly Games Workshop paints, although the metallics (other than Ledabelcher) are ordinary craft acrylics.

These minis are large, with a lot of embossed detail. This made them a lot of fun to paint.

The figures are not varnished (yet). I generally use watered-down 'ardcoat, but I am a bit concerned because in the past it has resulted in a somewhat tacky feel to the minis.

This might be somewhat against the spirit of the rules, as these belongs to two different projects, but this seems to be my only eligible photo from Sept:

To the left, Celtic naked fanatics from Corvus Belli, to the right Hurro-Mitanni charioters from Chariot, all 15mm scale. Paint and basing materials from various (inter alia Vallejo, GaleForce, and AP). The flag is freehand.

I have painted some original Talisman miniatures. I like the hunting down old miniatures element in this project. I guess it is a compensation for the loss of having to hunt down music you wanted in the era of CD´s.

Here's a mini I want to throw out there. He's a modified Reaper Bones mini that I am using as a solo for Warmachine Prime Mk II & the Iron Kin. He's an Order of the Fist Allegiant. The standard mini is kind of blah, and I felt this one (modified a bit) captured what I was going for.

I painted him using P3 paints, with some Citadel washes. I used Procreate putty for the loincloth and wrist wraps.

As is my wont, I paint the Boss's base blue and the Gunslinger's base red so they stand out and the danger can be easily recognised. All the Dudes are natural and the Citizen's and Greenhorn's bases will be... wait for it... green.

These are six Hobgoblin Ostrich Riders for BattleLore 1st Ed. 20mm/1:72 scale. I chose to color the turbans green because in the game, they are a "green banner" unit. I paint using a variety of USA-brand acrylics (FolkArt, Anita's, etc.)
