I went on a Thursday night and played with Ed. It was hard to switch my mind from Netrunner to this. But, got a feel for it by the end. Ed basically told me how to play the dark side. The game felt a little lighter than Netrunner. It also didn't make much sense to me that star destroyers could fight Mon Mothma riding a tauntaun. Or something of the like. Fun, but not really for me.

I played this with Ed and Jason and we lost horribly. But, I LOVED THIS GAME. I bought it that night and played it 4 times solo that weekend. I love the theme, and I dig the deck building mechanic. I love how the characters card abilities match their comic abilities pretty well. Every group I've played this with has liked it. Best purchase this year.

We had a group of 6 playing 7 wonders. My first card drafting game. I let a couple key cards pass and didn't have a good base to win the big points in the later rounds. I can see why this game is a classic. I would like more player interaction, but it was still fun.

Fresh off Gencon, Jim brought this game and I was able to join a game because they played the first game wrong, something to do with the influence cube. I got screwed in this game because I didn't realize there was a card that lets someone travel back in time (or forward). It was still really fun and the art is cool. The concept is cool and it has the "go after" other players feel, that I really like in games. You can really mess with someone's score if you steal a key technology early or late in timeline. Very fun and not too complicated.

We played this one with the expansion after Legacy and it was a late night! I don't even think we finished, but cut it off at 10:30 and counted victory points. My first worker placement game. I liked the variety of paths to victory (so it seemed to me). It felt like I was managing a village, making people marry and have kids, work in huts, go to market. I set myself up for one really good move where I got a unit for free at the market because of a character I bought at the tavern. It was a sweet move and made me like this game. I didn't win, but I could see the potential here. Not a huge fan of the theme of building a farming village. But, the game does it well. You can interact with other players by choosing to do a location that they might have wanted. Not a ton of interaction, too little for my taste.

I played this twice. The first game we did so bad, I thought the game was broke. We got 2 yellow clue tokens in our five nights. It was painful and brutal. We had a lot of flaws in our strategy. The first round went poorly. We needed to narrow our search net sooner. We started too broad and never got a few early clues. Jack did do a good job too! Second game, the following week we caught him in night 2 or 3! The key was blocking the roads so he couldn't jump over us without using a special move. I'm not into coops as much, but with Jack as the villain, it felt vs. not coop. It feels like a board game of hide and seek. I like the theme of chasing a famous serial killer with actual historical figures. This game was fun and I'd play it again.

I was able to join a campaign for about 4 weeks with Gary, Jason, Chuck, Lisa, and a rotation of Jim, Jacob, and Laura for the 5th player. This game was a lot of fun. It started off very easy, but the last two missions in the pack were much harder since the locations had mostly monsters. The last missions was difficult, so I heard, since I wasn't there. The easiness of the game was a slight turn off and the repetitiveness of the scenarios: close locations and find the bad guy. But, I really like the skill checks, rolling dice and building up my character. I had Ezran, I think is how you spell it. I didn't like not being able to have blessings to help others out. I'd love to play other games that have character advancement

I was able to play this with Chuck, Dave, Keith, and Gary. It took me awhile to understand everything that was going on with the different locations. We didn't have a lot of space combat, so I still don't totally get that. But, man, this game was fun. I had a pretty good idea who the Cylon was, but he did a great job tricking Dave. And, one epic turn and Chuck playing the Cylon perfectly led to a Cylon victory. Took a long time, but was a lot of fun.

It just like Bingo, is what Gary said. So, that was all I could get out of mind. A great game for 3 players: Gary, Jason, myself. It went quick and was easy to pick up on. A good strategy game, with some luck. I thought this game was fun and light. Too much like Bingo for a game I would purchase. But, the theme works well.

We started this game a little late after a game of Pathfinder, so my tiredness played in to my ability to grasp and win at this game. But, by the 3rd or 4th turn I got a hang of it. I really like the green crystals, spyrium, and the card graphics are cool. A worker placement game where you buy buildings and build your "engine" while getting bigger cards later to score some points. I never got a good mine, so I was struggling a bit. But, I really liked this game. Played with Jacob, Chuck, and Jason.

After making some characters for an RPG: Jim, Gary, Francis and I took on Trains. Jim's comment was, The board doesn't matter, build a good deck. I wasted some turns getting some cards that weren't great. But, overall I liked a deckbuilder with a board. Cool idea. Good strategy based off a not very complicated mechanic. We had fun and it was a good game. Maybe on the lighter side for me. Cool art. I saw the GenCon board that showed the Midwest, Awesome! Worth the price to play with Detroit on the map!

We played this 6 player with the expansion: Dave, Bryan, Jake, Jim, Gary and myself. Dave had the cool meeples that look like thieves, clerics, fighters and mages. I went all in and bought a great building early that gave me VPs when people used it to get rid of 2 corruption. Only to have it stolen by Bryan the next turn! Despite that I took a close 3rd. I really liked the variety of choices this game offered, plus the way you could dump stuff on players: like a mandatory quest. Intrigue cards were a great way to create more player interaction and corruption left a nice push your luck element. We did mostly call the cubes: white, purple, etc. instead of clerics and mages unintentionally removing the theme. But I still liked the theme. This game was right up my ally and made my wish list for sure, plus the expansion....and the cool meeples.

EDIT
...and Jason was there providing a limited amount of moral support!

Initially, I thought I would be turned off by destroying the world's population but it turned out to be pretty fun. There is something about releasing the Zombie virus on a friend's country after they just nuked you just because you want to get back at them. The theme is dark and not to be taken seriously, but it plays really well. The bartering, alliances, truce, and peace-pacts make this game the most fun. It reminds me of that moment in Settlers when you're trying to convince someone to put the Robber on someone else's property: only it's like that every turn. In the end, I just ended up dropping tons of nukes all over the place to try and pro long the game so it people could keep diseasing the people out in front. I came in last, but still had fun. You have to ignore the reality of terror attacks and chemical warfare, but after you do that this game can be fun. Played with: Gary, Jason, Dave, Glen, and Jim.

Played with Gary, Chuck, Jason, and Dave. After a lengthy rules explanation, I was given a green card and suggested to be the witches. I quickly understood this was a game where you have multiple paths to victory and you need to pick one, and do well in multiples of other. I managed to get from the explanation that it would be beneficial to start my properties by other terrains that are close to my preferred terrain type. Jason, who also was playing for the first time, did not realize this and was last for the whole game. Kind of a steep learning curve! This game has a ton going that was overwhelming at first. I needed to constantly be reminded how many purple energy I needed to rotate, when I could and should use that energy, and when I scored points. By the third round I finally caught on to the game and was able to maximize some strengths to win the game. I almost lost when Chuck took the last bridge, how could I blow this plan! But, regained the largest "kingdom" by building up my ship transportation. This game makes Settlers of Catan look like Yahtzee. You have starting variable powers, 5 types of "settlements" and multiple ways to score points at the end. I really liked the game because of its variable starting powers, the complexity, and because I won. But, it's such a long game (2.5+ hours), I'm not sure if I bought if I'd play it often. My board game group is mostly parents who need to get home to kids, so two 1 hour games are more preferred. But, maybe, just maybe I'll pick it up.

Chuck, Gary, and Brian taught me this game. Its a fun, light card playing game with a similar feel to Bang! The theme was really fun: putting attack combos together and choosing a new stance. A lot depends on luck, and there is no hidden roles like bang. Its a quick all out kung fu fight. I liked playing this game as a fun filler or a good gateway game. The game came down to Chuck and I and his masterful kung fu skills topped me in the end.

Played this with Kevin, Mike, Gary, and James with a rules explanation by Dave. This game has a science feel mixed with a "Bingo" type feel of Rise of Augustus. But, there are more ways to mess with your opponents: Bunsen burners and study tokens. The theme could actually help people remember elements and molecules better because they seem to be the real thing. (Just based on my memory of Chemistry classes from 15 years ago!) There is a trading element that I really like, too. Science is not a theme I got excited about, so it was hard to get into the game. Plus, I had very few good draws, no rare yellow Sulfurs and only one or two greens.

I'm not a big fan of coop games, but this is one I'd play again because it feels closer to an RPG than a board game. I'm the guy that likes the flavor text before a game of Pathfinder the Card Game. I've never played Arkham Horror, or Elder Sign. I liked working together and rolling die based on skills and trying to maximize your characters strengths. You basically collect clue tokens and use them to defeat a scheme with monsters and gates appearing that need to be dealt with. With six people it was going to take us close to 3+ hours to finish so we actually quit the game at 1.5 hours. Since we were at Thanksgiving day party we couldn't hear any one else and I was greatly distracted when it wasn't my turn. There was quite a bit of down time between turns. One turn all I did was stand up because I got knocked down before. A second play would probably go quicker with less explanation and more focus playing.

Players: Nicki, Jason, Dave, Nick, Laura, and me

This was my first game by some guy named Stefan Feld. I'm really glad I got to try it. It was described to me as a victory point grabbing game. You roll dice and use them as "workers" to place on a spot to take an action. There was a ton going on in this game that overwhelmed me. A Temple track, purchasing/bringing men and women to your island, building huts, getting fire, completing tasks to get more points. Holy cow. Felt very overwhelming. This is a game where you have to stop and think to figure out your current turn, your next turn, and how you will want to score end game points every time you place a dice. A true brain burner. I'd consider this a heavier game that could play in around 2 hours. I shoot for med/light games that play in an hour or so. So, not for me. Jacob pretty much kicked butt.

After trying the iOS version, Chuck brought this in and I was able to play it against a seasoned pro. It feels like the movie ALIENS, with tension and dice rolling. This game was made for me. It's only two player, so it might not get to the table as much. The alien player I was against was closing doors, moving his aliens around to jam my guns, stockpiling the final hall way I had to get to, planning out his 6 movements after the exposure of a radar token, perfectly to reach my guys. Some poor draws on my command points, made it really tough. Very hard game considering my opponent. The paint job Chuck did was amazing. Cool theme, fun mechanics and theme, love the dice rolling. Great game, too bad there is no way to get it.

After playing the board game, it seemed natural to try this card game out. With 7(Kevin, Chuck, Gary, David, Jason, Jacob, me) of us playing it was a crazy free for all. Thank God Jacob had a flame thrower. It came down to the last few aliens, three of us left...and we lost. Very challenging. A long game, slower with that many people. Fun dice rolling, very simple version of the actual game. Kevin traded his unplayed copy at home away on BGG while we were playing. He wasn't a fan.

A brief post Christmas gathering on a Thursday night with Chuck, Jason and Laura led to a game of Agricola. One I've always wanted to try. It had a classic feel like Settlers or Carcassonne. I can see why people like this game. I feel like I've truly built a farm and raised a small family by the time I'm done. I didn't get last! But, also had a hard time scoring victory points with animals. The theme was originally a turn off, but after playing it I can see why people like this game. With some meeples and better pieces it could be really fun. I want to try Caverna!

We played this with Chuck, Bryan, Jacob and myself. The gear mechanism is such a creative idea for moving pieces. We had the expansion going which apparently gives you more ways to win. Otherwise it would seem moving up the temples is a way to go. Holy Symbology! Everything had a symbol that generally made since once decoded. I don't know if an english word is on this game. A well planned out turn and planning ahead pays off big time in this game. Feeding workers...how many times am I going to have to play a game with the stress of people going hungry!

So, I'm not sure if I didn't like this game because I lost, because I couldn't seem to do what I wanted to do, or because it's a slightly dry theme. It seemed like too much depended on what tiles came out at which spots on whose turn. I remember thinking, Oh man I hope they draw a ..... for my turn and it didn't seem to happen. A little interaction in choosing a tile another player might want, but not enough player interaction for me. PLayed with Jason, Bryan, Ed, Brynn and Chuck.

This was quite a fun tile laying game with a push your luck, hope for the best element. It felt a lot like Lost Cities, but it plays 3-4 players and has a board with a cool fantasy theme. Super light game, but you can attack other players, join them, or go out on your own. A nice filler game. Three rounds make a game and each round could take up to 20minutes. Played with Jason and Bryan.
