Expectation:
When I started reading about coop I came across this game pretty fast. But back then the theme and the artwork didn´t appeal to me... I was more into Shotguns, Laser and stuff like that. Looked like a kids game to me... But then I read so many good things about it, that I just wanted to try it.
Reality:
In my opinion the best coop there is. You are forced to work together or you will be beaten up by the game very fast... Most of the times you will be beaten up even when you work together... but it is still fun. Because you have so many options and the rules are very easy. Also you really get the feeling of being a team; unlike in other coops you do not get anything out of playing for your charakter; there is no leveling up or anything. No downtime. Good production value.
Great expansion.
Really nothing to crtitisize for me.

Expectations:
A short, fun coop that is highly chaotic with only little strategic decisions.

Reality:
First play with two players was ok. We won on first try and it was not as exciting and challenging as I had hoped.
The next time we played with 3 and then with 4 players and it was a blast. People were shouting and screaming in excitement like I have not seen in a game before. It sure is somewhat comparable to Space Alert but both games feel really differently. Escape is much more simplistic and therefore easier to teach. Also we tend to play Space Alert with a higher level of concentration for it feels more serious.
Escape is the first - and so far only - game that made my heart go faster... When the gong is ringing and you have to get back to the starting tile and you roll some black masks, friends running past you without hepling because they try to get themselves save, it´s a unique experience.
Also the game is a great opener or filler.
Very overprized though...

Expectaions:
Saw this at Essen 13 and it looked nice. I like space games and dice. From first look it seemed to be a bit too simplistic but I talked to some guy who had just tried it out who said it was a blast. Unfortunatly it was too crowded to give it a try myself...
Reality:
Only played it twice this far but I love it. It is simplistic and easy yet elegant and deep in regards of strategic choices.
First game with 3 players (Talked my girlfriend into playing by telling her it´s a short game 30-45 minutes). After I explained the rules she said it didn´t sound like a short game and she was right. I also expected it to take longer to play.
But in the game I started attacking other players right away and it took about an hour including the time to explain the game. My girlfriend was not as amazed by the game as I am but rather thinks it´s ok (but she´s not into games really)
Second game with to players was a bit frustrating because dice hated me this time. Lost almost all battles and the other player got a great combination of advancement cards. But the game was still fun because it was so fast. And I still managed to place my cubes except of one.
I would recommend playing with at least 3 players though because it was brutal one on one.
Did not regret buying this at all. This is my Essen 13 Highlight!!! Go buy it!!!

Expectations: After the great review from the dice tower I was expecting a breath of fresh air for dungeon crawlers.

Reality: I really like Doom: The Board Game and prefer it to Descent for several reasons.
But Level 7 OP is a game design on a higher level. It is more elegant. It has plenty of stuff to think about and offers a lot of choices that really matter.
I still like Doom and will play it whenever anybody asks but I think as similar as those games are on some level, they are not really comparable. For me, Doom is a more relaxed game in the sense of complexity. And I am not talking about rule complexity, bit complexity in gameplay. In Doom we usually end up moving forward, shooting and securing (with the overwatch (?) order). Like that for us it works best.
In Level 7 OP in every round you can choose the stance which has a huge effect on the round. Then you choose how many adrenaline you will take always taking into consideration what the GM may do this round. Sometimes you may only move once just because you don´t want to give to much adrenaline to the GM.
And what is really enjoyable is, that you are fully equiped at the beginning of the game. So the game does not have the balancing issues Descent has in the endgame.

All in all, this one is a real winner in my opinion. Components could be better, but the game plays so well that I really do not care... Also price is a bit high.

Expectation:
The game that started it all for me. I read about this in a popular german magazine that usually does not cover Board Games.
The whole coop gaming thing got me really interested. On top it was real time and in space. So what could go wrong?!?
Reality:
When the game hit the table for the first time we were 4 players with little exprience in board gaming (but experienced roleplayers).
First game was chaotic and we lost right away... but still had lots of fun. And because it only took 30 minutes we played it twice again. Till now we played it many times winning about half the time with increasing difficulty.
Unfortunatly it sometimes is just to much stress to bring it to the table so we do not play it as often latley. But everytime we do everybody loves it. Absolutely worth the money...

Expectation:
First time I read about a Traitor in the game and was really excited. Couldn´t say how my gaming group would like this but I couldn´t resist... although I hadn´t seen see tv series at that point...
Reality:
So far the most elegant traitor mechanism I came accross... In this game the traitor is really hard to spot unless he plays it really obviously...
In our first games people weren´t to outgoing about accusing others, though. It sometimes felt a bit forced because people heard it to be appropriate in some way.
But in later games paranoia came more naturally.
Unfortunatly it needs at least 5 players and takes some time to play... That´s why it is not played as often as I wish... And one player in my group is not the biggest fan of the traitor mechanism but always is the traitor...
Great game. And now I can tell it gets the tv-series´ flavour in a game.

Very easy to teach but very hard to master (Don´t get me wrong, I´m not even close to mastering the game but I see it´s a long way to get there).
Love the artwork. The double guessing (is that the correct english term?!?) is a lot of fun.
Most people i taught it to didn´t like it at first because the mechanics were a little unfamiliar and they didn´t know what to do at first. But in second play (almost) everybody really liked it.
And it plays in 45 min to an hour. Thats perfect to me.

Expectations:
Didn´t really like the Artwork on the back of the box but was almost buying all coops I could find at that time. And the dice tower review was quite good so I took the risk.
Reality:
I really like this game. Artwork is way better than expected. Overall the production quality is amazing (as usual for Flying Frog as I found out later...)
I never tried it as a competitive game but why should I as the coop one is so much fun.
UNfortunatly the rules are not well organized. You need to skip back and forth between the coop and the competitive rules and it´s easy to overlook some rules. But we managed to play coerrectly throughot our first session. Tried it with 2 and 3 players and enjoyed it mor with only 2 players. I don´t think I would recommend it with 4 players for it has some downtime then.
Also it becomes a bit fiddly later in the game with A LOT of dice rolling.
Don´t get me wrong: I love rolling dice... but when there are plenty of units and locations in the game with some Human Tech and some more stuff, it sometimes is required to roll 10 times in a row to end the enemies´ turn.
But overall it is not difficult to explain. The theme is compelling to lots of people and it´s just fun. But player interaction is on a rather low level. We mostly played on our side of the board trying do slave humanity. Seldomly it was neccessary to work together...

Expectations:
Far from being a coop but I always like secret roles in games.
Also like that there is no player elimination.
Reality:
Played it several times and there always was a high level of tension at the table. Also afterwards players were arguing about potential mistakes with their (secret) partners. Found out that I am not really good at analysing who is playing as my partner but it is still a lot of fun. Everybody I played it with liked it. Maybe because it is highly competitive but there is also partnership in it (except for the Ronin...)
It´s cheap, easy enough to teach to non gamers and takes about an hour. Also I like the artwork.
Rules are not perfect but with some internet-research everything works pretty well.
This game will hit the table a lot.

Expectations:
Dice Tower: very positive and Super Hero Theme. Artwork looked good. At that point was quite hard to get, but I got hold of a copy somehow for "only" 35 EUR... Saw it way more expensive in some websites...
Reality:
Short and easy rules. Illustrations look good. Everybody had fun playing it although some had to find a hero that suites them. A hero that role is to take damage for others is not everybodys cup of tea... But that´s what makes this game so great. Everyhero plays differently and has a learning curve, so it does not get boring after some plays. On the other hand I still didn´t get how to play some heroes which can be frustrating cry
And with to many players and at a later point in the game it can get a bit fiddely meaning it can get a bit complicated to keep track of all the different effects of all cards in play. 1 Damage less from the enviroment card, 2 damage more from one villain card, Fire immmunity for this hero but all damage turns do psychic damage etc....
But till now everybody really enjoyed the game. And it is a real coop game where you have to work together to get a chance for victory...
Did not regret the purchase at all.

EDIT:
Sold the game later due to the fiddliness and book-keeping. Still liked the game and the different characters but it did not hit the table oftern.

Expectations:
A unique co-op gaming experience also playable by non gamers for the mini games are not complex at all. Saw this game at a convention for the first time and did not buy it because of the artwork on the cover which is not appealing to me as it makes the game look like a kids game. But then I watched a video-review later and bought it straight away. Looked like a game even my girlfriend could enjoy and that might get my favourite game in the collection...

Reality:
Allthough the mini-games are not complex for themselves the game is not as easy to teach as I thought because it is vital to understand the effects and functions of the stations in order to play. Playing at the sensor station without knowing what sensors are used for in the game is no fun. So it takes some time to explain all the different stations (especially to non gamers).
But the game is real fun. And the stress level of timed phases is not as high as I thought. I mean it can be kind of stressful with the sandtimer running but it´s not anything like Space Alert or Escape.
Because players are playing at the same time there also is no real possibility for an alpha gamer to tell everybody what to do. Every player is so much occupied with his own station that you cannot care about the others.
But that is also the downside of the game. Everybody is mainly concerned with his own station and Interaction only occurs in between phases. Allthough the Helm station has to communinicate in which direction the spaceship will go so shields can be generated accordingly.
Also sometimes a station can be quite boring to play so changing stations is a good idea, which the game also provides.
All in all I like the game but know that I can not play it with everybody. There are a lot of things to dislike in this game...
(After several plays I think SC Dice Duels is the better game...)
Do not regret the purchase but the game was not the great funny co-op I expected either. My girlfriend did not like the game as it had too many rules and she thought the mini game idea to be kind of stupid (Oh how wrong I was cry

Expectations:
A Eurogame with real theme that is not just pasted on!
Reality:
I really do not like Eurogames as Alhambra, Carcassonne or Siedler. I accept that these are well designed games and will not refuse to play them but sometimes got the feeling that it is more work than play. And I really like thematic games so most Euros are not my thing.
But then I read an interview with the designer of Archipelago who also had designed Earth Reborn which impressed me much. There he said that he wanted to make an Eurogame with theme and player interaction.
So I did some research and watched the Dice Tower review and the game seemed interesting enough to get it for christmas.
After reading the rules I was impressed by the fact that all these rules made sense in regards of theme. Like having too many people without work is playing in the hands of the rebels.
I also love the artwork. It´s just awesome.
Then we played our first game. Explaining the rules did not take as long as I feared; I think because they make sense so it´s easier to follow.
Everybody was playing the game like a classic Eurogame: exploring and improving, building and getting workers. But then I realised that I could end the game by just fulfilling my ending condition. So I counted the victory points I could count and finished it... to the very surprise to the other players who thought it would go on for at least 2 hours.
In the end I lost, but still had a blast.
I like the secret objectives and ending conditions. I like that you can modify the playtime.
I´m really surprised that this game does not get more love. I would recommend it to real gamers no matter if coop fan or not. It´s rare to find such a well designed game

Reality:
There is everything in here. Still haven´t played with all the rules. I like the scenario based explanation of rules. But it also has a downside: You have to play against the same player step by step. Whenever you play with someone new you have to start from the beginning or he won´t get all the rules. Also there are 4 player scenarios but it cleary is a 2 Player game; and 2 Player PvP-games aren´t usually my cup of tea. So haven´t played it for a while but love the theme, the mechanics and the design. Now I think I will play it again very soon...

I played this one at Essen 13 before buying it so I knew what I would get.

Reality:
This game is a simple streamlined Coop game. It has some nice artwork but all in all it has a rather abstract look to me. At least the theme is not as strong as the cover might suggest...
The game is easy to teach and plays pretty well. Tried it only with two players so far because that seemed to be perfect. Turns are very short so there is no downtime.
I really had fun playing it allthough I got to admit that sometimes the options of good moves are very limited. It often is kind of obvious what to do. But later in the game players have so many thinks to take care of that you have to decide which one is the most important and that´s where the strategic decisions begin.
It´s good that the game plays in 45 minutes because that is definitly enough for what the game offers. But if you want a fun game that challenges you but does not give you a headache, this one might be for you.
Don´t know about replayability but it´s a nice filler or starter game.

Bought this game for my girlfriend because I read that it is very easy to teach but wiht enough depth so even gamers can enjoy it... and of course because of the girlfriend-friendly theme

Reality:
First played with only two players by the original rules. It was ok but not great. But I suspected the game to be more enjoyable with more players. So we tried it with 4 players the same evening. Except of me no gamers involved.
We really had a blast playing this game. At first people need to get what the game is all about because it seems kind of arbitrary at first. But then the double guessing began. And because there are so limited cards it was very easy to get into it. In other games you need way more time and effort to learn about all the cards and effects to begin to guess what you opponent is up to.
But in this game everybody starts to do so by the second or third round.
And in regards of theme I really like that they did not paste a fantasy theme on it. I mean I like fantasy but I got lots of games non gamers tend to dislike just by the fact that there is a dragon involved. And allthough the Love Letter theme tends to do the same with gamers I usually get them convinced to try it out. And so far everybody enjoyed it.

I had played Descent at a friends so I knew the system already. But I prefer Sci-Fi over Fantasy theme... But this one was hard to get my hands on. Sold out everywhere and very high prizes on amazon. Then I got it (unpunched) at a reasonable prize on Ebay. I was thrilled
Reality:
As I said I knew the game from it´s mechanics and like them quite a bit. What I dislike about Descent is that it is somewhat unbalanced meaning that the overlord can crush you at the start of the game but has no chance of winning after the players found some treasures. And then it takes a very long time to finish even though it´s pretty obvious who will win.
Doom does not have these problems. Players do not really improve throughout a scenario, at least not quite like in Descent. And with the ammo limitation it can always turn out worse for them.
Problem is that Doom also takes some time to finish even when everybody knows what he is doing. That´s why we do not play it as often as I would like. But most players in my group like Doom and prefer it to Descent.
Also I think playing the Invader is more fun than playing the Overloard because you can just play your cards as you see fit with only the spawn limitation. No card costs make the game faster and more interersting for the invader.
It´s a very solid Coop that just takes a bit too long.

Expectations:
an epic Adventure game that doens´t take an epic amount of time to play.
Reality:
As with all FFG-games the components are really great. Everything looks and feels nice. The artwork is cool - allthough I prefer drawn pictures on cards... But it´s not really important.
The gameplay is really simple and you can feel like the game plays you. My first try was with 5 players in the coop-mode. That took some time to play and was fun but there also was some downtime. And because of this duration of gameplay people started to ignore the story elements on the cards to save some time. So the longer the game went, the less fun it was.
Next try was a two player coop game. It was pure fun. We lost against the Nazis but it was still really exciting to have car chases and planecrashes and all the stuff going on in the game.
Some people critisize that the adventure cards do not make sense thematically from time to time. But I just look at it like a whole movie. Like it is said in the rulebook "Jake Zane and the skull of the dead". And then it is ok to have a car chase and a bar fight in the deep jungle because it might have happend before going to the jungle just to get a clue of where the artifact might be.
The rules are a bit confusing and complicated from time to time for a game that actually is pretty simple. There is lots of dice rolling and therefor luck involved.
But the theme is great. It feels cool to travel around the world fighting villains and collecting artifacts. If that is appealing to you and you are not a gamer that needs deep meaningful decisions in all his games but wants just a light fun game from time to time, this game is a good choice.
I´d recommend playing with 2-3 players. Haven´t tried the team mode rules...

Expectations:
A coop game with a very cool theme. No new mechanics but I had the hope that the game tells a story every time.
Reality:
First thing to notice is that the rulebook is not really well designed. Some passages are way to lon so if you try to look something up it takes a lot of time to find it.
As expected the game does not offer any new mechanics or anything. It´s all about the theme. It´s just fun to drive around the city taking care of different emergencies like a traffic accident or a robbery. It´s cool that only other players may play cards to support you so there is more interaction. Also I like the way the murder investigation is solved mechanically. Turns are short enough so there is not too much downtime.
One thing that bothers me is that the characters with there stats and special ability somewhat "force" the players to either investigate or take care of emergencies. So it might get a bit dull to repeat this actions throughout the game (especially the Investigation action as you do not roll any dice).
But the theme makes up for that in my opinion. In my group almost everybody had fun playing a police officer (even my girlfriend likes to play it from time to time). The emergencies are divergent enough to make this game interesting for several plays.
And for the story telling aspect: I still remember having a discussion if we should let the gas leak take care of the domestic violence problem located at the same building whistle In our group it is still a runing gag.
At normal level I think this game is a bit too easy but it offers several ways to increase difficutly.
I like this game and would play it at any time.

Expectation:
Haven´t read the books. But I like dwarves. And it´s a coop game.
Reality:
A really fun game. Nice dice rolling mechanic where you roll some dice and choose the best.
Thematically the players are a bunch of dwarves fighten against different enemies invading the dwarven kingdom. Every round some dice are thrown to see what kind of enemies come into play and as the game progresses more and more of the map will become waste-lands so the enemies march further and further towards the center of the realm. You are trying to fulfill scenario cards before the enemies overrun your city.
In our second game we managed to achieve the final goal with our last dice roll which was very exciting and got everybody at the table shout and cheer. So this is a great sign for a game I think.
Takes about 1 and 1 1/2 hours to play. Miniatures are ok but look a bit like a childrens game. The game itself offers some deep strategic thinking combined with some dice luck. That is always a nice combination for me because it keeps players from overthinking for there always is luck included so why not take the risk...
There are not a lot of scenario cards included in the base game, but they came out with a mini expansion at Essen this year to fix that.
Really nice game. Good for non gamers as well (except of the theme - at least for my girlfriend... :-(

Expectations:
THE coop with traitor mechanism. I like the theme, I like the artwork. Production value at its best... gotta be good...
Reality:
I have to say: I was slightly dissapointet. The game is well designed and fun but I had expected something more... Maybe the problem is that I played Battlestar Galactica before SoC... I think the possibilities for the traitor are very limited if he wants to be unrevealed. I mean there is still a great opportunity of winning for the traitor even though he is not doing anything real bad for the players. But I just felt more restricted then in BSG. Sure there always is the psychological side of the traitor mechanism: Encouraging stupid ideas of players and getting the focus of the paranoia on another player. But the whole experience just felt more intense with BSG.
Don´t get me wrong: I like SoC and I would be happy to play it but if you let me choose I´d always go with BSG.

Expectation:
Bought this at a small Roleplaying convention. When I first read about the game I thought it to be a rip off like saying: you can play Zombie-Ninjas so every (male) board game nerd (like me) wants to have it. Thought it to be a bad game like munchkin (sorry, just dislike this game except from the theme).
But then I read some good reviews on the game itself. And its cheap with nice artwork and easy to transport. So I bought it.
Reality:
I like how all factions play very differently and there are so many combinations that it won´t get boring soon. Some combinations work better than others but that´s kind of thematic, right?
Game plays well. For me 3 Players is perfect. With 2 players it´s too brutal for my taste and with more players it gets a bit fiddly and confusing. Overall there is a lot of counting involved which can be a bit boring. But you got to keep the game running, because otherwise the downtime can be horribly long.
I think the game is a lot of fun if you do not overthink it. So keep it simple and fast and you will definitly enjoy this game.
I wish they had provided something to keep track of the points at the basis...

Expectation:
I really like the theme. Working together as Navy Seals ought to be fun, right?
Then I read something about the gameplay... Collecting Cards of matching colors... That sounds awfully dull snore
But reviews were still quite good... and the prize was reasonable.
Reality:
The game is abstract but the theme is not totally out of place. Unfortunatly the artwork is very simplistic, i.e. the equipment cards could be illustrated better. Some of them aren´t illustrated at all. Doesn´t help to get into the theme...
But the game plays well and is quite unique in comparison to other coops. In this game you are preparing for the mission by collecting cards. The longer you wait the better your chances on succes but waiting too long means loosing life points. Sounds dull as well, doesn´t it?
But then there is the roll call:
One player in the role of the Lt. Commander is the leader and decides at what point to go on to the mission. But he can´t see, what the other players got in there hands. He may ask some questions about their hands, but there are limitations.
With this feature the game feels very different to all other games I have. We all had fun playing it. Should be played with a minimum of 3 Players. The more the merrier.
I can recommend this game IF you can handle the abstract game play and artwork...

Expectation:
This was my second coop game after Space Alert.
I was not impressed by its looks for I do not like wooden cubes. But the idea of fighting together against epidemics was somehow teasing.
Reality:
In our first games we won easily on easy level. One level harder we got crushed without a chance of victory. I then found out that we played it slightly wrong. But still it varies from brutally hard and exciting to boring sometimes. We usually loose because we run out of cards. We had to learn to keep an eye on the draw pile. We were more focussed on preventing outbreaks and it sometimes feels thematically wrong that you loose although you have all the deseases contained. But this is the timer in the game...
I found that some people thought this game to be too abstract to really enjoy it so I have problems bringing it to the table. One reason might be that there are so many good thematic and beautiful coops to play now that pandemic seems a bit old...

Expectation:
Bought this because I thought my girlfriend would be more excited about the horror theme then she was about Sci-Fi in Space Alert.
Reality:
Way too long for my girlfriend to like the game. In our first games everybody mostly played for himself and tried to get the best equipment and stuff for himself. Also sometimes we ignored the flavor text to make it faster. But then it lost all the atmosphere. So I didn´t play it for some time (also because new games came in which had to be tried out).
I still like the game but maybe would not buy it again for it takes to long and gets repetitive after some time.

Dice? WWII? Coop? That´s my game!!!
Reality:
Game plays well. Is hard enough but not impossible. But it just didn´t click (yet). It was ok but maybe too abstract for me. Just didn´t feel like pushing soldiers forward... And there is almost no player interaction. The friend I played it with on the other hand was really excited and liked it quite a bit. So, gotta give it another try sometime. I think if i liked playing solitaire games, that would be quite good...
