Start time: 12:30pm
End time: 4:45pm

Ellie reprised her role as Keeper in another game of Mansions of Madness. We have played all the original scenarios in the base game, so today Ellie chose this expansion as our next adventure.

The daring investigators included:
1 Kate Winthrop, the researcher, with her microscope, played by Shawn
2 Vincent Lee, the field medic, with his Gray's Anatomy book, played by Scott
3 Gloria Goldberg, the renowned author, with her typewriter, played by Tim
4 Darrell Simmons, the photographer, with his camera, played by Eric2
5 Michael McGlenn, the gangster, with his Tommy gun, played by Andy

In this game, we had a lot of ways to gain additional clue tokens, which allow the investigators to improve their odds when doing skill checks. This didn't help Tim at all, who, as in all previous MoM sessions, continued to roll miserably. He blames the die, but we all know that he just sucks at dice rolling.

Ellie had her witch's minions out early, and they began to slowly chip away at the health and sanity of the investigators, who struggled mightily to uncover clues that would help them understand what was going on in the house, and what they needed to do to eliminate the evil.

About the time the objective was finally revealed, Darrell Simmons had gone insane, and surrounded by the witch and her horrible monsters, he finally perished. Michael McGlenn valiantly fought against the vile creatures, as the others rushed to his aid. It was a close call, but the witch was finally killed off, and order was restored to the universe.

There was still time to play another game, so Tim brought out this recent acquisition. It took a few minutes to 'splain the game, as Tim hadn't played it yet. But before long, they were off and playing.

In Lancaster, you start the game with a set of army tokens of limited strength, represented by the height of your army tokens. You send your armies to castles in England for rewards or favor from nobles, to the castle to get rewards from the monarchy, or into France to fight battles for glory (and points).

At this point, I have to confess that no notes were kept on the game, so I can't really provide a meaningful session report. I'm pretty sure that Scott won, despite a tremendous end-of-game effort by Shawn. Tim played like Eric and Andy for most of the game, which explained why he was just a handful of points ahead of behind them, and way behind Scott and Shawn. Eric and Andy played like Eric and Andy, and thus it's no surprise they brought up the rear.

If you want a thoughtful, in depth analysis of this game, perhaps Tim will provide such in a comment to this report.

Shawn and Scott had to go, but Tim agreed to stick around to join Eric and Andy in a quick game of Jungle Ascent. Eric had recently picked this up (through Kickstarter?) It's a quick game where you place cards as various pathways (bridges, ladders, etc.) or as obstacles (falling boulders, flaming logs, and similar things) and try to maneuver your climber up the side of a cliff. First to top wins.

The game includes lots of opportunities to both help yourself and hose your opponents. So you shouldn't try to do too much planning because nothing will happen as planned. After jockeying around the side of the mountain for a few minutes, Eric finally managed to scramble to the top for the win.
