Deciding to start with something light (!), Mark and Tim taught myself and Tegan this great heavy Euro game. Relatively easy to pick up, this game offers players a lot of choices and paths to victory, but makes each step along the way seem pretty easy. It seemed to have a lot of depth without being stressful, which is nice. It also comes with a crapload of wood.

A nice feature is the fourteen different races that come with the game. Each one plays slightly differently, with special abilities and varying costs to perform certain actions. Can't speak for all of them, but the four that we played seemed pretty balanced.

In the end scoring was pretty tight between myself and Tim for first, but Tim managed to get ahead by a few points to take the win.

A very enjoyable game, I'm glad I have a copy too

Next Tim, Tegan Flayne and Myself played a few games of this short and simple bingo-like dice roller. Quick to explain and fun for short bursts, this was pretty popular. I think three games were played, but I ducked out after the first to play...

My favourite game (well, joint first!). When I saw Mal was teaching this to Jacob I had to jump in. Mal's brother Pete was also playing.

This play reminded me why I love this game so much. It's quick, has great momentum, everything is a meaningful choice, and if you judge your opponents' intentions correctly you'll get ahead by planning for the phase they're going to activate as well as your own.

I went with a military strategy early on, did a little digging for some cards to boost my power and then, with the help of the Improved Logistics card (which allows a player to settle two planets in the settlement phase instead of the usual one), I filled up my tableau with high point alien planets. Everyone else was working on victory point building engines but I beat them to the end and won. I LOVE THIS GAME!

After some deliberation I taught Pete, Ben and Flayne this euro about building and expanding an ant colony. I don't see this played a whole lot but I really enjoy it. If I had been thinking straight I would have picked a lighter game, as Flayne is a newcomer to euro games, but she stuck with it through to the end. Pete won pretty convincingly, with a very respectable score, even ignoring the fact that it was his first play.

After another quick game of Qwizz, I taught Pete and Flayne this trading game about bean farming. Tegan also played, who has played before. We only went through the deck once as it was a teaching game and starting to get late. I won, using my world-renowned skills of coercion and being a pest until people give me the cards I want.

After everyone else had left, Tim, Jason, Tegan and myself decided we had another game in us so Tim taught this deck builder with a board. Turns out we had two games in us so we ended up playing both sides of the board.

I've had my eye on this for a while and enjoyed it quite a bit. The deck building aspect of it is very similar to Dominion (with the addition of a nice Trash mechanic that clogs up your deck whenever you use it to do something useful). However, I found the theme far more cohesive and the board element made it seem like I was playing more than just a mechanic, which is an impression I often get from Dominion. Tim won the first game and I believe Jason won the second. I did equally badly in each, but enjoyed both games.

Just a pity the score track was designed during a beginners' Photoshop class...

3 player game between Warren, Jason and I.

Jason took the lead early but a lucky draw of a Princess and Baron allowed me to take out Jason to win overall

Fun game although a bit solitaire at times. Dean, Elaine, Kyle(?) and I played this.

I managed to win with 28 points due to fortuitous rolling by Dean (my Dungeon Lord) and with skulls = potions for the Undead Viking

Worst game of Condottiere I've ever played thanks to the terrible "strategic" decision of Oliver to not contribute to defeating Ernest who skillfully connected three territories early on in the game.

The terrible decision had Jason and Warren trying to outgun Ernest, with me being dealt a hand with max value of 13 in combat being of not any use.

That said, I should be thankful as Oliver received much shaking of heads by the rest of us around the table AND we were able to play Spot It! sooner

A 5 player game with 5 "Dons" - Mark, Rowland, Warren, Jason and I. Despite some "dishonorable" acts (no deals are binding in the game) and the constant rotation at the top due to the Police and various whackings of various members of the mob, the game went well.

It is a very light version of Kremlin and it's all open which had some detractors. The game also seems more tactical than strategic as most senior positions disappear quickly thus making Associates worthwhile investments

Overall a good game which I'd play again with the right group

Now, this is more like it.

We played two games of Infiltration, back to back. Amy had to leave part-way through one of the games, leaving Olwen (sorry if I misspelt your name), Tim, Russell and I.

In the first game all the thieves made it out intact, one way or another, but in the second game one of us got stuck inside the locked down building. One of the highlights was my bemoaning the lack of valuable data in a room, only to have it pointed that that such data isn’t usually kept in the elevator!

My last game for the day was a four-player Race for the Galaxy, with the first 2 expansions thrown in. I had one of those games where everything comes together, quickly picking up a neat card from Rebel vs Imperium that reduced the cost of Genes worlds and also getting Pan-Galactic League at around the same time. I think Tim ended the game just as the victory points were about to run out, as Russell had gotten his novelty goods-fuelled VP engine turning over.

Jason kindly lent this game for Mal, Tegan, Oliver and I to play. Tegan's constant laughter when playing pieces caused her to miss catching many falling objects. Oliver risked putting two pieces in an effort to catch up and failed, and it came down to Mal and I having a couple of pieces left. A failed placement by Mal and a higher number played by me saw the blue block successfully placed on a rather empty yet still dangerously tilting ship for me to take the game.

Mal and I played a game of X-wing to finish off the night, trying out the new b-wings.

Was interesting to me as it is the first time i have tried a proper one-on-one game (following the rules for asteroid placement, initial placement etc.)

Ended up being a bit one sided as Mal had a lot of points concentrated in the Firespray (i think it was about 55 points), and the massive firepower of the rebel side (14 dice!) managed to put consistent damage on it. So, despite my usual stupid flying, managed a fairly comfortable win.

The b-wings with heavy laser are able to do 4 dice at all ranges, which is very powerful. With 5 (!) shields and 3 hull, it takes quite an effort to put a stop to them too (only 1 agility though). Not sure if it is the most efficient use of the extra 7 points though...

Mal: Boba Fet Firespray with ... lots of stuff, 1 Academy TIE, 2 Academy TIE w/ shield upgrade

Mark: 2 Rookie X-Wings, 2 Blue Squadron B-Wings w/ heavy laser Cannon

I needed up winning on the last turn from Chris, Jason and Nyssa
