I remember hearing "Walk On the Wild Side" on the radio when I was a kid. I had no idea what it was about, but I thought it sounded cool. I was very late getting into the Velvet Underground. Hear are a few more that I like.
I noticed Lou Reed in 1989 with "dirty boulevard" but I really fell in love with the Cowboy Jukies "sweet Jane" the same year. So "sweet Jane" was really my first Lou Reed song. Later I got into Velvet Underground and this is when I really learned to like Reed.

I remember hearing this first as a young teenager. It was edgier than anything out at the time. This was the 80's. I couldn't believe how ground breaking they were. From Maureen Tucker hand beating of the drums, to John Cale's screeching violin, but mostly it was Lou Reed's words and world weary voice. Still love this song:
