airjudden is busy being a family man and attending football games and stuff, so I volunteered to put the geeklist up this month because I don't do any of that stuff.

Judd also fills the opening post with links so I had better do the same.

nefftron, I don't know any people in real life. Not only that, I don't own a table! How can I ever hope to play my wargames against other organic beings?

Fear not, my lonely friend. You can download the VASSAL program and obtain thousands of modules for various board games. If you want to find an opponent for a specific game, you can find the [geeklist=115364]VASSAL/Skype/Cyberboard request here[/geeklist].

I want to play a game, but it's out of print, never to be seen again! What should I do?

airjudden made a list for that too!

These wargames stink! Where can I get rid of them and buy or trade for better ones?

You can find an ongoing wargame flea market here.

I'm a hipster and played an obscure or avant-garde game nobody else knows anything about. Aren't I great?

Indeed you are, and you should show your greatness by taking a look at the list of wargames without reviews and adding one for your game. Who knows, maybe it'll get popular and you can brag about liking it before it was cool!

I live in an exotic, distant land, like Turkmenistan, Palau, or North Dakota. Anything special for me?

You get the special role of supplying new wargame shops to the list of Flagship Local Gaming Stores that sell wargames. Help a traveling brother out!

I got a new game last month. Where can I go to show off to people besides my disdainful wife?

The monthly newly purchased wargames thread is here.

nefftron, I think I love you. And by extension, I love airjudden as well. I want to see this geeklist every month, forever and ever! How can I make that happen?

You can subscribe to the monthly table geeklist here!

This is wargamish. Even uses hexes. It's on my table right now,
and pleasing me greatly. I say wargamish only because there's a
pile of these fantasy multi-player games that feel not too different
from things like Britannia (at least in mechanisms), which I'm
pretty darned sure isn't a wargame proper. This seems to fit in with
those. But dammit, I've been waiting for this one for nearly 20 years!

Plan to get back to The Art of Siege and Flying Colors
scenarios as well.

All on vid, of course.

After all of a sudden making a move back across the country (the second time this year) I suddenly have space to play big games that stay up over multiple days! First game bigger than Ancient Battles Deluxe in SEVEN MONTHS. It's gonna be a damn good month.

EDIT: To clarify, the celebration will begin by refamiliarizing myself in SPQR with a solo session of Bagradas Plains. I'm sure I'll be too giddy with my play thru to pass up sharing details to come.

Our next session is scheduled for the 3rd weekend of November. We're playing the Revolutionary Campaign and things are heating up. So far Russia and Turkey are the only powers not at war. It looks as if the strain of war may be too much for some nations and I expect that a chain reaction of surrenders will be occurring within the next few months.

Punched, skimmed rules and set up the first scenario. Really looking forward to playing this, I love dungeon crawlers. So far, I like the customizable options available to both sides. One thing that I noticed...the team leader(an officer) has an intelligence of '2', while the rifleman(an enlisted man grunt) has an intelligence of '3', message??whistle

The art is good, evocative and thematic. The component quality is generally good, but not as good as the D&D series, Claustrophobia, Descent or Gears of War. Also, the miniatures aren't as good as those other games, which is surprising since Privateer Press makes Warmachine and Hordes, what the France?

Bought into the hype and picked this up earlier in the year.

Spent October reading the rules and playing the intro scenario/learning game.

Now ready to play in earnest - I do have to commend the research that went into this game - damn fine work!

Playing two games via Vassal and ACTS

First game it is turn 4 and I am the pope - doing reasonably well - but am suspecting my chance at victory has slipped by - so far have failed to burn any heretics at the stake - but have done a descent job of limiting the Hersey to only Germany. My last hand was horrible though - 5 cards all 2 or 1 CPs. - lots of St. Peter's building.

Second game - just finished up turn 2 as the Haps - France and I have been banging on each other and throug some amazing dice rolls has killed the first army of Spain - and blunted the second one. Ended up losing Navarre and the Duke of Alva. Oh and the Turks are pressing Vienna - with England representing a huge variable. I was unable to persuade him to act against France - but at least no declarations of war against me (yet). Heck, even the new world has gone a bit against me - with France and England both getting conquests (turn 2 conquest failed - even with a +3 DRM - Nd France got it with a +0..... Grumble)

All in all - lots of fun!

I also am bringing Bonaparte at Marengo and a large printed map for a derivative game of Baptism at Bull Run. It is based very much on BaM with adaptations for the ACW.

The Hawk counter currently sits at +2, but it is going to be difficult to overcome all that Age of Aquarius love and doves during the last interphase. It is looking bad for the forces of the Free World!

I suppose it's a contrarian streak, but while most other GCACW enthusiasts are busy with the new release, Stonewall Jackson's Way II, I have been playing this one. I just bought some plexiglass and am enjoying the Gettysburg battle scenario, Meade Moves North.

The Confederates moved quickly in the opening days to completely occupy the historical battleground, so this game is playing out as alternative history. It's on Meade, rather than Lee, to force the enemy off the ridges and hills around the town. July 1 forays didn't quite work out, with Howard's XI Corps being routed by Hood's division and Slocum's XII Corps launching an unsuccessful charge against McLaws and Rodes.

Given the Confederate luck with its initial positioning, I'd be surprised to see the Federals take the town.

Played a learning game using the historical set up. The Prussians prevailed 3-0. A good little game; I really like the new VPG woodenesque counters, especially for a game like this, just seems to fit. Anyway, the Prussians started off smacking Nadasky's corp around. Only a card play saved them from a first turn demoralization; they got taken out the second turn. Individually, the Prussians units are very tough, but the Austrians managed a counterattack on the Prussians left flank, taking both supply depots and threatening one of Frederick's weaker cavalry units, Frederick's corp only has a morale of '2', so they are a bit vulnerable. However, on the last turn the Prussians finally demoralized Collaredo's corp and retook one of the supply depots for the win. Seems like a tough go for the Austrians, but if they can hold their own depot and threaten the Prussian flank with there best units from Kheul's corp, they might make a go of it. Going to give this some more plays.

The Pug ACTS Tournament 2013 continues with me coincidentally playing my old sparring partner Kevin Anderson in our familiar roles (me as CPs he as Allies). Kevin won an early victory by preventing me from playing Liberate SueZ. I have had to be content with the minor triumph of permanently eliminating some British elite infantry (retreat into overstack). Timing has been unkind to both of us with Parvus and 2 Invasions delayed until Turn 6. Currently it is Turn 7 and my Mesopotamian position is rapidly collapsing.

Turn 7 and Henry VIII (me) has got himself captured in a last ditch attempt to take the Spanish capital. Hapsburgs and Ottomans seem to have reached an impasse, as do the religious enemies. If Hapsburg wanted to he could win just by taking electorates, but I think he's too honourable for that, at least while no one else is likely to win...
