Big Game Saturday™ Sessions List

WOOT!!! Wife out of Town!!! A perfect opportunity for a special BGS™ version of Game Night.

With Cindy out of town visiting a friend, Andy was free to host a game night on Saturday, October 26th. Although the regularly scheduled game night happened just one day prior (on Friday night), there were still ten dedicated CBBSers willing to go back to back. Leif, Kelli, Jerry, Alan, Nyck, Tim, Eric2, Scott, Shawn and Lynette were among those in attendance.

With BGG.CON just around the corner, Andy was looking for any opportunity to brush upon his Yago Pool skills. So he set this up and talked Leif (who showed up early) into playing a quick game.

After a few more people rolled in, Nyck, Scott, Leif and Jerry started a doubles game. But they had to give up, as none of them could get the last ball potted for the win.

Another dexterity game was available for those who weren't in the Yago Pool game. No score sheets, but at least a couple games were played.

To start off the evening, Andy set up his collection of Star Wars: X-Wing Miniatures Game ships for a gigantic five-on-five shootout.

Those fighting for light and goodness included Andy as Lando piloting the Millennium Falcon, Kelli as Dutch Vander in a Y-Wing, Jerry as Kyle Katarn in a HWK-290, Alan as Garven Dries in an X-Wing and Nyck as Ibtisam in a B-Wing.

The vile and repressive Empire was represented by Tim as Turr Phennir in a TIE Interceptor, Leif as Soontir Fel, also in a TIE Interceptor, Eric as Winged Gunderle in a TIE fighter, Scott as a Gamma Squadron Pilot in a TIE Bomber and Shawn as Darth Vader in a TIE Advanced.

For the given pilot/ship combinations, the Rebels' build points were quite a bit higher than the Empires', so Andy decided to 'even' things a bit by having all ships run with no shields to start. This ended up giving the Empire an even bigger advantage, but hey- they're evil, so what did you expect?

After the ships closed range, the initial barrage of hits resulted in the destruction of Leif's TIE Interceptor. But that was the only good thing that happened for the rebels, as the Empire did a much better job of concentrating their fire and avoiding hits. They ganged up and quickly destroyed the Millennium Falcon, and then picked off Nyck in his B-Wing. The Rebels chipped away where they could, but couldn't deliver any knockout blows.

Eventually, Alan and Kelli fell, leaving only Jerry in his HWK-290, surrounded by the Empire. It was only a matter of time before he also fell, leaving the Empire victorious.

While waiting for the Empire to finish crushing the rebellion, Andy, Leif and Nyck played a quick game of Bears!.

They shot some bears, hid in their tents, and took long naps- and were rewarded points for doing so. In the end, Leif edged out Andy, 101 to 100. Nyck finished last with 82 points.

Tim, Shawn, Scott, Leif and Jerry each started with $100,000. Then they did some stuff.

Then Tim had a debt of $4,000, Shawn had a debt of $1,000. Scott was still $2,000 in the black and Leif and Jerry each had $3,000 left.

Whatever.

Lynette showed up just in the nick of time to join Andy, Eric, Kelli, Alan and Nyck in a game of Dice Town, including the expansion.

Alan tried a strategy of never rolling 10s, and so he spent most of the game short of cash, and ended the game short of points with 22.5.
Nyck did nothing spectular, leading to a non-spectacular score of 26. Andy collected three ranches, which must be a good thing, or it would not have been noted on the score sheet. Regardless, he mustered only 28 points.

Kelli also had three ranches, but with her 16 points in property edged out Andy with 29.5 points. Lynette got 32.5 points, but no one knows how.

And Eric scored 34.5 points. The score sheet noted that he also had money and gold, that he cheated for kings, and got the sheriff on the last round.

Which means that in this case, a cheater did in fact win.

At this point, Alan had to leave, which meant that Andy, Kelli, Eric, Nyck and Lynette had to find something to pass the time while waiting for the others to waste away their inheritances.

So they decided to play two rounds of the GREATEST GAME EVAR!!!!

The Dunfees clearly have mastered the game, as they led scoring with 11 and 10 points for Eric and Kelli respectively. Lynette managed 6 points, Nyck scored 4, and Andy, who clearly has no idea how this game works, only managed to score 4.

With nine people still hanging around, it seemed like a good opportunity to play Liar's Dice.

Unfortunately, not much is known about this session, as the scoresheet contained very little data.

What we do know is that early on, Lynette cost everyone else a die when she challenged Jerry's bid of 10 stars which turned out to be exact.

Then Andy was the first out, when Nyck called his bid of 15 6s, but there were only 7 (there's like a one in one cajillion chance of that happening! Crazy!)

Leif was the next to be eliminated, again by Nyck. Leif tried to convince Nyck there were 5 stars, but Nyck didn't believe him- there was only one.

Lynette followed shortly after Leif, and Nyck was right behind, after calling a bid of four stars when there were six.

Tim couldn't hang on any longer; he was fifth out when he incorrectly called Scott on a bid of six 3s- there were exactly six.

Jerry and Kelli were both out on the next two turns. Jerry fell to Scott's diabolical bidding strategy- who wouldn't call a bid of 3 2s (of six total dice)? Well, someone who knew there were really four!

Kelli fell when Eric didn't buy her story that two of the four dice remaining were stars.

Scott was then able to overwhelm Eric with his two to one dice advantage, and secure the win.

That's all we were able to glean from the scoresheet. Perhaps someone who was there can help us fill in the gaps.

With each successive game of the evening, the number of players continued to shrink. With eight players left, it was time to play BANG! (with a couple of expansions, BANG! Dodge City, BANG! High Noon and BANG! A Fistful of Cards).

(Since the only thing noted on the score sheet is that Jerry was the sheriff, and the nature of his demise, your humble scribe felt free to use poetic license to weave an engaging and witty tale of the game's proceedings.)

Jerry was the sheriff. He tried to protect himself by riding two horses at the same time. This offended Eric, who decided the proper punishment was to bang both horses (but not at the same time).

Scott then calmly shot the sheriff to secure the win for himself, Nyck and Eric as the outlaws. Deputies Andy and Tim left town, as they didn't want to have to explain to the town how they failed to protect their sheriff.

Lynette and Kelli were renegades, so they lost too. But they stayed in town.

Now down to six, there were now many more options for something to play. The group decided to go with one of the classics. To spice things up, two expansions were included, the magic buildings (which can be rotated as desired) and the variable score cards were used.

In the first round, Eric and Nyck jumped out to an early lead with 10 points each, followed by Tim with 9. Lynnette and Nyck had 7 each. Andy was not unable to buy many buildings early, and only scored 1 at the first scoring break.

By the second scoring, Jerry began to pull away, leading with 44 points. Tim tried to keep up, but was behind with 32. Lynette followed with 28, Eric with 22 and Andy with 19. Nyck fell behind with only 12.

At game's end, Jerry won handily with 96 points. Lynette squeaked by Tim, 78 to 77 for second place. Andy got as close as fourth with 67 points, and Eric and Nyck closed out the scoring with 51 and 39 points respectively.
