A great game can be hidden by a dull or overused theme, but a mediocre game can be elevated by a fantastic theme.

This list is not for the games themselves, good or bad.

Instead this list is for games that you think have the best themes.

A theme that just grabs your attention and makes you want to play the game.

Also, games that incorporate their theme so well that you can really get behind the role. Games that make you really feel like you're a part of the world it creates for the time you're playing.

Feel free to add your own favorite themed games.

*Edit: Just to clarify, this list is for specific games that capture a theme well, not just your favorite theme in general. Also, games where you might get the game based on theme alone, knowing little or nothing about the game itself.

The first time I saw this game at my friend's house I had to play it.

Come on! A train game in a fantasy world where the trains are really dragons fused with machinery, how cool is that?

And I get to be a dwarf conductor? I'm sold.

I grew up playing HeroQuest.

A game where my friends and I play wizards, rogues, and warriors crawling through a dungeon; but instead of normal adventurers, we're mice traveling the floor of a castle battling cats and what not.

Ok, maybe I read too many Redwall books as a kid, or watched the Secret of Nimh too much, but I saw the artwork for this game at Essen last week and I totally want it now.

A pirate game that takes place in the sewers with rats, frogs, and slugs? Cool.

I like any theme that is a bit "out there". Not including fantasy or sci-fi so much (although hard sci-fi is preferable to fantasy).

Superheroes and medieval fantasy. Sprinkle in sci-fi and sports although sports tends to be PC gaming.

I know this game is still just on kickstarter, but if it works as well as it looks and of course gets printed... I think this game could be my favourite dystopian SciFi themed game ever.
