This is a self prescribed geeklist recurrence of the last year (almost inclined to add it back to October last year when my son was born), or at least from January.

I am writing this as a sort of self therapy since sometimes it is easier to get over things if everyone knows anyway :-)

Actually the year started of pretty slow, and not much activity, only thing planned was work and having a good time with my now 4 month old son, so I will not bore with extraordinary details on this period, since it was relatively boring...

However during the beginning of march, I had the opportunity to go to Florida for a conference MIM2013, ofcourse since this was my first trip to the states, I decided to make it a little longer, and also take my wife and child with me (not company payed, so had to save a bit of money for this), and everything was event less until the night before we had to leave, I had to fill out some papers... and the horror shocked my very foundation...

It turns out that the name on the tickets and everything has to be matching the passport, and when getting married you don't get a new passport, so she still had her maiden name, and not the new name, but I had ordered everything in the wrong name...

We completely panicked and called just about everyone, but going to the states requires a "real" passport, so we were doomed, everything was arranged with bassinets aboard for Conrad, but I ended up calling Lufthansa, since hotels was booked and everything, so got new tickets for them at extended prices (1000€).

We got so good service both ways from lufthansa, and actually ended up with a refund on most of the original ticketprice, since all airport taxes was refunded, and the return ticket was 40% refunded.

But we got there, saw Disney World, and decided that we liked EuroDisney better (even though they speak a lot of french there), so hopefully no bad feelings, also had a excellent conference, and my first taste of lobster, visited the local game shop and bought a game only to sell it upon getting back to DK without playing it :-) (mice and mystics)

Biggest regret is not going to a homegame for Orlando Magic, biggest enjoyment was huge steaks and the trip to Kennedy Space Center in my rented Chrysler 200 :-)

Now we skip forward to April, and the first of the challenges, my son had to get drain in his ears, and this is properly one of the worst moments in my life, especially when he got put under and you see the roll of eyes before he pass out.

However this is properly the best decision ever, he slept better and became a much much happier boy.

Also in the same month I got the first module of green belt six sigma training, which is a course I fortunately have completed now, but will come back to it later, since this is very important for the further sorrows...

Friday the 28th my mom called me, and said that my dad was sick, and emitted to the hospital, this was not uncommon since he became quite sick when I was 8, and has a half side paralysis and unable to speak, but still understand what we say.

However I did not go for the hospital until Saturday, since we had a few emissions the last few years. But it became clear that it was much worse, since no one had been in contact with him for over 24 hours. We decided to stay at the hospital, and they supplied us with a very cheap room close by and he struggled with life/death until the morning of Wednesday the 3rd of July. We had the time to sit with him and each say goodbye before life stopped, but it was a very hard time for all of us, he got buried the week after, in a very private ceremony with just the closest friends and family (ended up with almost 100 people, he knew a lot in his days apparently).

Actually my old man was born almost exactly 9 month after WWII ended in Denmark, so he was a child of the happy period after the war, however sometime I would have wished a different life for him and us without the paralysis and non communication.

After the funeral in July we went for camping, like we normally do which was a great experience with a 9 month old kid.

Also we bought a house for 1.675.000 DKK (roughly 200.000€, give and take), so now also official owned by the bank, so alot of things happened in this month, only regret is that my dad didn't get to see the house, and also that he is not going to experience the growing up of his grandson.

But I will now fast forward to a life altering experience in the middle of house renovation and moving in.

This is more or less july and august, since we now had the house, was decorating and improving before moving in, since I had a deadline in getting to a course in Holbæk, (the aforementioned six sigma part 2) so we worked had a long got things done and I left, which was fine until day two, where I suddenly had alot of pain when going to the toilet, ending shortly with a diagnosis for urinal infection (which hurts alot)

However the treatment didn't help, ending up a evening where I couldn't relieve my water, ending with alot of pain screaming and a doctor giving me acute 20 ml of Morphine (that helped to relax and pain relief) and the day after I got to the doctor and she sent me to the hospital where I got a exam (in short a device was inserted in a not so pleasant spot, where they could see that I had a narrowing, making me unable to get rid of the water.

All this led to surgery, and everything was fine until I woke from surgery, since I kept vomiting and could not eat, I was discharged anyways, and at night, after not eating for over 30 hours, I gave up and was emitted again to get sugar and water infusion. which helped alot, and I ended up eating and was discharged.

I was home for a few hours and suddenly had back pains which was unusual, I ended back at the hospital where they took blood samples, and my kidneys were having problems. Actually over the next days, my numbers was high enough for complete kidney failure, but everything worked so I was not given treatment except pain coverage, and after a week I was discharged healthy as a very poor squirrel, with a threshold for exhaustion of around 5 min. I never in this had any idea of what was going on, and information was sparse, so the worst time of my life, luckily I was drugged with morphine pills and bad television :-)

The best thing was to see my mother in law move in with us and take care of Conrad while this was going on sametime they did alot of good work on the house to get it done and the old apartment also had to be cleaned and closed.

October was quite a R&R month, where I had to regain strength for a full days of work, but in the end I was almost back to normal, and basketball season started and I am a referee on the lower levels, so also had my first match (which was a struggle to keep up in).

Unfortunately my wife all of the sudden had problems with a sleeping arm and some tingeling in her face, so she was emitted to the hospital for two days for MR scanning and spinal fluid and the entire blood works, they were all clean, and the properly cause was nerves stuck, so she had to have massages and chiropractor to get it better, and it helped, but that was some long days, where again my mother in law was priceless and helped us out.

After all this has settled a bit and I got back to full time work, we had to have cuts at work, although dodging the bullet in the first round, it is never a good thing to have people being fired, so this will be interesting to see how it evolves the next year.

On the positive side my wife was offered a job starting 1st of january at her old department (she is a nurse, working with premature children) so looks like everything is back on track, and halloween (all saints evening in danish) where we yesterday went to church to light a candle and say the final church goodbye to my dad, afterwards we went to his grave to light a candle and put a flower.

I have not went to far into november yet, but hope for peace and quiet for the rest of the year, but hope to have fun experiences with secret santa both regular and wargame santa.

Hope for the next 1½ month to be peaceful and good, whit good experiences and a good Christmas, since I begin to wonder if there is any more room for sickness and death...

Also not mentioned in the thread before, my collection of boardgames got trimmed quite bad before moving, so the equation this year is in minus, however the Robinson crusoe game my wife got me while I was emitted kinda makes up for it, and also the small taunts from the wife about Essen 2014 could be a good sign of what comes in the future :-)

Also if you made it this far, thank you for reading a lot of nonsense, but had to get it out somewhere, among people who in most cases don't know me anyway :-)
