I'm looking for good games that can be played solo and that are not too huge for travelling (plane). I'll be at a couple of conferences soon and am mostly looking for stuff to play in the hotel room before going to sleep (TV substitute).

I don't mind if it's not really a solo game as long as I can play it against myself reasonably well (no hidden information etc.) but I'd obviously prefer something designed for solo.

I do not own any iOS devices though I do have an S4 cell with "Elder Sign" and "Hey that's my Fish" and am happy about Android game suggestions as well (even though there weren't all that many I liked in the lists I checked) but I'm mostly looking for real (non virtual) games

The only one I can think of off the top of my head is listed as the first item. Unfortunately I've gotten a little sick of it (see 100 plays list)

Edit: thought of another one I actually own...dunno why I forgot about it

Cheese Chasers is a free print-and-play tile-laying game that is pretty quick. I took this and another solo game with me the last time I was traveling and had some free time, and this one got quite a bit of play.

This expansion to Race for the Galaxy adds a fun and challenging "robot" opponent that will play a 2-player game against you. The robot doesn't play an actual hand of cards against you: its score ratchets up in various ways based on both plays you make and on dice rolls. I find the robot to be very entertaining to play against. It's also good training for games against live opponents.

If you like Patience-style games, this is a nice change of pace from the standard fare. I bet this one would fit perfectly on an airplane tray table! You'll need a Decktet to play.

I've found this to be a great solo game for traveling with or playing on a plane.

Seriously, though, I'd suggest looking into most of the Victory Point Games solo games (the States of Siege series, Nemo's War, Hero of Weehawken, etc). Lots of good, portable options there.

I've had a lot of fun with this one & the others in the D Series. There's a good learning curve to explore as you try to stay alive in the dungeon. There's character classes with unique abilities, and modular map with creatures that get harder as you get stronger...this one deserves a professional printing IMHO.

It is a little bit of work to put together...you'll need to trim and sleeve a whole mess of cards (I guess it could be worse, there are a lot of pretty serious PnP games out there).

I own two VPG titles (both being the boxed version), the other being Dawn of the Zeds (Second edition). Between the two, Zulus on the Ramparts! has a smaller box size than DotZ. It's slightly smaller than the size of a VHS tape. I think it's just right for travelling, isn't too bulky and a perfect solo gaming experience.

Take a look.

Since this is on my must buy list for a quick intro game anyways I think this will make the trip

Cards, dice and boards, but fits into a pretty compact package. I'm not sure if it's still up, but you might look into the PnP version of the game...

There's also a D-Day Dice messenger bag, if you want to carry it around in style!

you might want to try LOTR:TADG: it is essentially a deck of 54 cards, 1 playmat and a few tokens, even though someone posted in the file section a slider thing that completely replaces the play mat and tokens (kind of like what we have seen in D-Day-Dice (hey, you could even use one of those trackers, to keep track of things in LOTR:TADG).

takes VERY little space (the space of the deck and a discard pile), and plays fast.

Besides, it is totally FREE, or you can get it for like 3 euros (5USD) from artscow too, if you're not into PnP.

SUMMARY
You and your band of scallywag pirates are in deep, deep trouble. Something you’ve never seen before has been following your ship, seeking revenge, growing stronger with rage. Perhaps you took one treasure too many, and now fate is closing in. So hurry while the wind is brave in your sails! Sail from island to island, scouting, fighting The Doom, looting for treasure, and spending your loot to live out tale worthy adventures.

GOAL
Defeat The Doom and/or survive with as many adventures as possible.

GAMEPLAY
Take actions using the map deck to expand the board, move, search for resources, place workers, complete adventure cards, and attack The Doom. As each round ends the AI player increases strength and moves in to attack you. This forces you to end your turn as far away as possible by either expanding the map or moving. Resources in hand and large boards will result in shorter rounds making it harder as the game progresses.

The game is for 1-3 players.
The solo game takes about 30 minutes.
This is a print and play game.
There are 54 cards and an easy to read 24 page illustrated rulebook.
You will need a D6 dice, a player marker and 3 cubes.

An instructional video can be found on:
[ WIP ] HAZE ISLANDS

Download: https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/195533/haze-islands/file...

Thank you for logging your plays.
