This challenge was suggested to me as a way to get more enjoyment out of my ever-expanding collection.
Often I feel I play a game 2 or 3 times and then more directly onto the next new thing. This cult of the new mode of thinking is wearing me down.
I have observed that my ratings of lots of games goes up with repeated plays. Even if the rating remains unchanged, my desire to play the game usually increases the more I have played the game. I guess I have been trying new things, when what suits me more is sticking with the familiar.

I will start with 10 games.
I will play each of these games 10 times and record my experiences.
Once a game reaches 10 plays I will evaluate the game and its place in my collection.
Some games may not reach 10 plays.
New games will be added to the challenge as it progresses.

Edit:
I've decided to break my challenge up into 10 groups, one for each type of game-related genre I enjoy. These 10 groups are:-
1. Small Solitaire Designed Games
2. Eurogame with Solitaire Play options
3. Ameritrash Game with Solitaire Play options
4. Cooperative Game
5. 2-Player Game (games with Mum)
6. Party Games or Games to play with larger group
7. Expansion Plays
8. Painting or other Crafting Projects
9. Unpublished Prototype or Design Challenges
10. Role Playing Game

1 play
Niche: Small solitaire-only card game.
Theme rating: High appeal
Component/Artwork: Excellent
Desire to play: Moderate to high, increasing through Solitaire Games on Your Table Geeklist series.
Category: Small Solitaire Designed Game

Play #1 and Play #2 - inspired by the commencement of the challenge I set to work getting through those plays! It didn't take me long to pick up the rules again, despite only having played once before. I lost quickly both games. It was probably due to being too free with my life points, resulting in Robinson dying before the second level both times. The games were quick and much more enjoyable than I remembered.

Play #3: I still haven't got the foggiest idea of what I'm actually supposed to be trying to do to win this game. I have no idea how anyone beats the pirates. But I am really enjoying playing still. This play I died during the yellow phase, and even that was with a bit of cheating!

Play #4: Had a game of this while watching an episode of Merlin with Mum. I've got the hang of the rules now, so it was pretty easy to multitask. Although, still haven't figured out how to beat it. An improvement was that I didn't die until the red phase.

Play #5: Woke up early and had a game of this before work. I think I need some rules clarified. I don't use many of the powers on the cards because I'm not really sure how their effects differ. I didn't lose life as quickly this time and got to the first pirate.

Play #6: Played one game while I had some time to kill. I'm not enjoying this game all that much. The deck building mechanic is not very fun in general, and is not better (or worse) here. I don't find there to be much story. The randomness is pretty flavourless. I'll probably see out the ten plays. I might consider a retheming with more randomness.

Play #1: Got this one out again last weekend. I played solo with the playwright against the werewolf and his feral kin. The town was overcome by Darkness, due in no small part to my playwright abysmal combat skills. I love games where there is a sense of impending dread and this game has that feeling. I love co-operative games where you can see your plans crumbling around you. Looking forward to bringing this out again soon!

Play #2: Finally pulled this game out again. I'm leaving it set up for the month of June until I get at least the first five of these ten plays in. This play went over about three separate sessions but only because I have been sick lately and couldn't focus for long period of time. I played as The Drifter against The Vampire. It was a close game and there were lots of Succubus out on the board generally getting in the way. Ended up killing the Vampire on the same fight round he killed me. So I guess that's a victory?

Play #3: So leaving the game set up has been a good move. I played again this afternoon. It was a quick game this time which suited me fine. I think I played pretty well, but also had the Mystery Deck go my way. I played as The Drifter against The Vampire again, but hardly saw any minions. I was able to take out the villain with my Spirit, after taking the Reverend along with me to aid in the fight. He died in the battle but went a long way to helping stop the progression of Darkness.

Play #4: Played again against The Vampire. This time with the librarian as my hero. The librarian gets +1 combat for every book she has. This led to a pretty feverish search for books followed by a fairly quick showdown with the villain.

Play #4.5: I sorted the game and its expansions for a good hour. I'm not sure about the expansions. I don't think everything will fit in one box but I will try. Possibly I'll put the heroes in a separate box.

Essen 2013 preorder
Theme rating: Moderate-High appeal, lower due to tourist concept
Component/Artwork: Board & Cards excellent, tokens good
Desire to play: Interested but not engaged

Challenge Cancelled: I decided to trade this game away. Yes, I had not played it. But I feel I will get more play from the system if I stick to K2 which has better options for solo play. Additionally I wasn't taken by the idea of tourists, not being a fan of tourism in general.

Challenge replaced with K2

3 plays
Niche: interesting dice placement & tech tree
Theme rating: Low-moderate appeal, improved on viewing components
Components/Artwork: Very good, photos do not do board justice
Desire to play: Moderate, would rather play Alien Frontiers

Play # 1: Committing to play this the full 10 times before passing judgement, I suggested this one when asked what I'd like to play. I enjoyed it more than I had previously. Part of that may be due to listening to The Dice Tower Showdown episode on it. Also, my mother quite likes it. It seems everything I play I can try out a new strategy, which is good for replayability.

Challenge Cancelled: I traded this game away. It was just another game, not something that was really shouting out at play to play it.

Challenge replaced with Alien Frontiers

Challenge re-instated. Game received back in trade and is easy to get to the table with Mum

Play #2: We played at Monday night games. My first time playing with 5 players. Then game went too long, was my main thought. But it was still really enjoyable. There are still many strategies to pursue and adapt depending on dice rolls. I look forward to more plays.

3 plays
Niche: civ building & card drafting
Theme rating: Moderate appeal
Components/Artwork: High, iconography not intuitive
Desire to play: Moderate, reduced due to end-game scoring

Play #1: It has been quite a while since I had played this so when I pulled it out to play with Mum on Thursday night there was a bit of rules checking. But still, I really enjoyed it. More so than I remember. I like playing with the dummy player, who we named Julius. Don't know if you are supposed to score Julius's points at the end but we did and he won. Looking forward to playing it some more. Maybe once we get to 10 plays we'll have the courage to add an expansion in.

Play #2: Played again within one week. I tried a science strategy and Mum went heavy military. It was a good game. This seems to be a game that improves the more familiar you are with it. I suppose that is the case with most card games.

Desire to play: Low considering original rules, Moderate-High considering two player pure co-op variant
Category: Design Challenge

10 November 2013:
Play #1, Play #2 and Play #3 Brought it out and played three times fiddling around with a solitaire variant. Variant evolved over three plays but has not yet cemented into actual rules set. Desire to play has increased further. The theme was really good. Again considering replacing wooden tokens.

Niche: chemistry lab
Theme rating: High appeal
Components/Artwork: Excellent, except did not include pieces for 5 players
Desire to play: High, rulebook stopping me so far

Challenge Cancelled: I decided to trade this away after reading the rulebook. I think, purely from reviews and the rules that this game would be best with more than 2 players. The freeform trading and quasi-auction rules held me back from even attempting to play it.

On the other hand I do like the theme and have my own ideas on how I can take these concepts to make a solitaire game I will enjoy - watch this space!

Most anticipated game of 2013
Niche: Steampunk
Theme rating: High appeal
Components/Artwork: Excellent, box a tad too small
Desire to play: Moderate to high, length and complexity holding me back

Challenge Cancelled: I decided to trade this game away unplayed. For a game that had me wanting to play it so much, when the rules were read and the game was set up for a practice session I just didn't want to play it. Perhaps it has something to do with the lack of dice...

I have ideas for the concepts in this game and will consider some solitaire challenge options - watch this space.

Niche: Solo mountain climbing adventure card game.
Theme rating: High to Very High appeal

Category: Eurogame Solitaire Play

Play #1: Had this all set up and was just starting a solo game when Nadia came over for tea and jigsaw puzzle. Finished up the game after she left. Really enjoyable plus the added bonus that Nadia seemed interested in what I was doing so might be able to be convinced to play. I ended with my best score of 15, with one of my climbers reaching the top. This leads me to think that I played some rules incorrectly. Off to watch instructional videos...

Play #1.5: I watched through the Box Of Delights playthrough of this game. It was good and gave me an opportunity to think about strategies. And also to learn that the tents are not climber specific. Useful information for my next attack on the summit.

Play #2: Woke up early this morning and decided to take a quick trip up the mountain. It was a successful outing, with neither climber perishing on the mountain. One made it to the summit, until the weather forced us back down the mountain. I drew all the "2 Risk" tokens at the beginning of the game which offered its own challenges. I'm enjoying this game more and more. Having it on the ten plays challenge, has really helped inspire me to pull it out more often. Going to continue to play solo, unless someone asks to play with me.

Play #3: An early start this morning and time to fit in a game. Pulled this off the shelf and had a quick sprint to the top of the mountain before breakfast. Very enjoyable, and my satisfaction with the game increases. Both my climbers perished, resulting in a traumatic loss. Simple and tense. A great solitaire game.

Play #4: Because I had left the game out on the kitchen table I suggested to play it when Mum asked to play a game. Her first game and I think she enjoyed it... maybe. It was close but I got to the top and stayed there, thus preventing Mum from increasing her point score. Works differently two player than solo but still fun. Keen for more plays. May take it along to games night.

At commencement: 10 Plays
Niche: Dice manipulation, with space theme.
Theme rating: High appeal.
Components/Artwork: Fantastic. Although I am pleased to have the original printing with the wooden colonies. I dislike the plastic components it now comes with.
Desire to Play: Very high. This is one of my favourite games.

Play #1: Played a three player game with Ben and Chi. It was really good. There were a few rules questions but that was probably because I hadn't prepared very well. The end of the game was fantastic. Ben had one colony left to put on the board, three dice and no resources. But he did have the Mind Control Helmet. If he rolled triples on his dice he could Mind Control a die to get enough Ore, then place his triples on the Colony Constructor. So Ben says "Let's see how much I can do with just three dice..." And he rolls triple 6. An awesome end to a great game. This game makes me feel very smart when I figure out the best way to maximise my dice rolls.
