So after much anticipation, Santa made contact very late last night:

And so the games begin:

So the next response I got:

Santa wrote:
Dear Rusty,

What is your favorite Marnaudo review?

Yours,
Secret Santa

I replied:

Dear Santa,

Wow there are so many, I have watched them all. Of all of them I have placed direct links to the ones I really found great (as I say I have watched them all)

Zombicide, loved his review on this one.

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/video/27609/zombicide/video-rev...

I enjoyed Phantom Leader review, especially now this has been re-done in deluxe version:

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/video/31645/phantom-leader-delu...

But there are two games reviews he did recently that led me to put games on my list:

One he outdid himself in was this one

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/video/32567/star-trek-attack-wi...

And the other

Navajo Wars:

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/video/35580/navajo-wars/video-r...

As I say, I can't get enough of his reviews, hence my microbadge

Dear Santa,

I knew it was that simple, don't mind those cute little sheeples.

The last convention I went to was last year before Harlow was born.

Now we moved onto Kickstarter, this Santa is really going all out on the questions.

I almost can't keep up, when I said bring it on...I opened the door.

Keep it coming Santa!

Quote:
Dear Rusty,

You mention Kickstarter a few times in your list.

Is there a Kickstarter game active now that you would love to support?

Yours,
Secret Santa

I replied:

Dear Santa,

I love the concept of kickstarter and have a couple of games from there before. Coup I am currently waiting for (group buy was done)

The other one was Viticulture, I picked this up second hand from another user.

The reason I don't use kickstarter more is I don't like waiting (X) months after a campaign has finished for the final product (Sometimes due to delays ect)

Still I think the concept is neat, nothing springs to mind at the moment

Another option that has been looked at:

Quote:
Dear Rusty,

I was intrigued by Snowdonia on your list

This game it seems is not the easiest one to claim a copy of no matter where you are located in the universe.

However, are you interested in worker placement games?

I believe I watched this video before, but this game never made it to my must have list with all the other fantastic worker placement games out there.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxvm4BYH4Cw

Maybe I will visit Snowdonia before I own the game. It is apparently located in Penrhyndeudraeth.

Yours,
Secret Santa

I replied:

Dear Santa,

I do enjoy worker placement games, but I am always on the lookout for ones that offer something different.

Most ones seem to re-use the same mechanics and rare to find a fantastic WP game. Maybe you can point some out?

I know this is hard to find, I have tried. There are other games that I would probably rate higher to acquire than Snowdonia at the moment. However those reviews make it look great.

Maybe I should try Pluto for a copy (the temperature seems about right)?

So where did you go on holiday last?

Dear Rusty,

Dungeon Petz looked interesting but I marked it off because of the "z" in petz

I rewatched Rahdo's video and it talked about blind bidding, which reminded me of a blind bidding game

Have you ever heard of or played Revolution!

That's actually a pretty cool blind bidding game, it has an expansion for 5-6 players too!

Yours,

I replied:

Dear Santa,

Well that is very much Vlaada's style I think, maybe that was missed in the proofing of the game for spell checks? Or maybe one of the mischievous imps infiltrated the production factory and changed it?

I have played Revolution and enjoyed it for what it was, although we have a couple of copies floating around our group at the moment.

Dear Rusty,

I thought it was going to be another Castle Panic! but I was definitely surprised after watching the video

http://boardgamegeek.com/video/20477/dungeon-fighter/dice-to...

You mentioned Crokinole, as being the top/only dexterity game on your list, can you think of any other games that maybe you overlooked?

Yours,

I replied:

Dear Santa,

Well that might be a problem, our gaming groups tables are in the middle of the room with the wall being at least a foot away.

I can not think of any other dexterity games of the top of my head, heard tumblin dice is another one. I used to own the mini version of Pitch car but our group owner got the large scale version.

We found this much nicer as the track was larger, care to point me in the direction of other dexterity games?

Dear Rusty,

Have you ever thought of Manhattan Project; place workers to create bombs to destroy the world! Muhahaha- ho-ho-ho

My mood changes for worker placement games, sometimes I enjoy them, sometimes I forget we played or they ever existed.

In our group we play a lot of team games, Pandemic, Castle Panic, and apparently Catan is a team player game for our normal couple partners.

Everyday I am not working is a holiday, so I visit lots of places year round. Thank goodness I only work one day a year.

Yours,
Vlaa... Secret Santa

I replied:

Dear Santa,

Actually funny you mention The Manhattan Project I own this game already and thoroughly enjoy it. The group likes it too, not so keen on the theme. But they have moved past that.

It breaths life into worker placement especially with the mechanic of no real turn structure as such. You have to time when to pull your workers back.

Also own the expansion to it, works great.

Co-op's have started to make an appearance in our gaming group of late, especially with the addition of Pathfinder Adventure Card Game: Rise of the Runelords - Base Set. We are now looking at running a campaign with at least 3-4 of us.

Pandemic is very popular here, but everyone owns a copy so when I want to play it, someone usually has it available to play.

So when did Mrs Clause last purchase you a game and what was it?

I replied:

Dear Santa,

I do like pretty games or games with lots of components. If it has a miniature, I probably will paint it.

I have a confession I tend to use lots of storage containers to organize my bits.

At the same time, sometimes beauty is in the eye of the beholder and some games that don't necessarily look the prettiest is off set by the gameplay.

So really I could go either way on that one.

Dear Santa,

Well yes and no, you see our Christmas is in the middle of summer so snow at that time of the year really doesn't happen. When we first moved to my old home (Taupo) we had a freak snow storm just before Christmas, that was back in the mid 1990's

With us living in a warmer area, the chances of snow are very very slim.

I replied:

Dear Santa,

I used to work through the holidays so very little time off. My new job gives me two weeks paid leave this year.

So i will be looking after Harlow while Kim works, maybe in between Harlow sleeping I might play a few solo games or start painting some more miniatures. Christmas Day we have the whole family over. Lots of eating, drinking and being merry.

This year will be quite special.

Depends really what I get for Christmas

A nice thought, not sure how that would go down with Kim. Don't think I would be allowed to play with it with Harlow (Kim would probably deem that as too geeky

Normal lego has been approved (just asked her)

We don't have an advent calendar for the holiday season. When Harlow is a little older an Advent Calendar would probably work, with her less than 1yr old this year it would be an excuse for the "adults" to help her with it.

Dear Rusty,

Fact noted. You have officially ruined Christmas changing your mind so late in the game! You will now get COAL!

Just kidding... maybe...

I replied:

Dear Santa,

Please Please don't send me coal, I have just been told what it is. I promise to be good. What can I do to make it up to you?

Regards
Rusty

Dear Rusty,

I have a feeling that I should say the below:

"I want an Official Red Ryder Carbine-Action Two-Hundred-Shot Range Model Air Rifle!"

Yours,
Secret Santa

I replied:

Dear Santa,

Well I will see what I can do, if I can't find that will some home made choc chip cookies do?

Will even have some reindeer food ready so Rudolph can keep going. But if after all that food and drink you might be tired so I will make up the spare bedroom if you need a Santa nap

Regards
Rusty

Quote:
Dear Secret Santa,

I like inside out chocolate chip cookies. If you make a batch of those, maybe...

Do you like games like Trivial Pursuit, which have more recent ties to what's happening lately?

Yours,
Rusty

I replied:

Dear Santa,

Will have Kim make two batches

Trivial pursuit has never been my thing really

Regards
Rusty

Huh wait what, i replied to secret santa asking him about Trivial Persuit, don't remember that whistle

Dear Rusty,

Have you any idea of what to expect yet from me?

I want to make sure you feel taunted enough, and exhausted from random questions

It has only been a few days but, I have researched your list thoroughly and am making a decision based on your responses and my whims.

I am going to play of Elder Sign now to congratulate my efforts to confuse you

Cheers,
Secret Santa

I replied:

Dear Santa,

I have absolutely no idea

You have taunted me lots and I have really really enjoyed it. Great job Santa. I am pretty exhausted

I just opened elder signs on my phone to play now.

What ever you do send Santa I am sure it will be fantastic

Regards
Rusty

So now I am really confused and not sure what to expect, my Secret Santa has done a fantastic job at leading me on wild chases.

So it is now at this point where all has gone quiet from Santa, this is the first time that I have not woken up to a reply from Santa.

We will see what happens from here.

Wow, either Santa has been kidnapped or messing with me. No Geekmails all week, I do hope that Santa is OK whistle

So, on Saturday the silence was broken:

Quote:
Dear Rusty,

I decided to go super sleuth and stalk you and all your posts this week
ninja

I was also attempting to beat all levels of the Elder sign app, but Cairo is proving to be completely too challenging. I had one more monster to defeat and i guess his long tongue both distracted and intimidated me.

I have attempted the snow one in the past as well but, let's just say, never place me in charge of managing food supplies in the worst case scenario, because you will starve.

Have you done anything interesting this week involving any form of gaming?

Yours,

Super Secret Sleuth Santa

I replied:

Dear Santa,

Wow..you went undetected for so long, had thought about hiring a Santa trained Reindeer to find you.

I am only on the basic levels of the app at the moment, soon enough I will buy the next lot of levels.

Actually I have done a couple of things interesting involving gaming this week:

We started our Pathfinder Adventure Card Game Campaign this week. I even felt rather creative (not normally that creative, but I have been inspired) and started to write the story with the four heroes. Let's just say it is getting some laughter from the group and has made the game that much more thematic and we are fully into it, only the first scenario done. Many more to go.

Also had a game of Dungeon Roll, a rather interesting little game. Oh and we did a bit of backstabbing after that with Cosmic Encounter. Oh the laughter that erupted from that game.

Regards
Rusty

So the question is where from here, he is being super sneaky, super stealthy and still continues to taunt/stalk me.

I wonder when those ninja elves might visit me...
Quote:

Dear Rusty,

This time of year makes most people inspired.

Dungeon Roll, eh. I enjoy that game. I have never made to the max dungeon level, but i think the highest i have gone is an 8. That is definitely a fun game.

There are a few dice games I enjoy playing a lot. I like them even more when I cam play them one player, so I can play anytime I want and I don't have to wait for a partner.

Yours,
Secret Santa

I replied:

Dear Santa,

Well on my first play I came close, got to level 7, on that roll I managed to pull two treasures and use the meat to turn all monsters into dragons.

Result was 12VP on one round!

I heard good things from D-Day dice as a solo game and of course you have Elder Signs as well. This is a very nice solo dice game I think.

Well I have done my good deed for the year and spoilt someone here on the geek, sent them four items off there wishlist. Oh and the other day when I went to buy curtains for our new home, someone left a package of meat (about 5 items) on the ground of the carpark in a white bag.

Rather than doing what some people would, I picked it up and walked into the butcher they were just at and explained what happened, not sure if they got it back, but it made me feel good

The staff members face was one of wow that was honest of you.

So does that put me on the nice list?

Regards
Rusty

So last night after returning home from work, seems Santa's helpers tried to drop something off.

Today I collected a box from our local office and actually got a message from Santa:

Quote:
Dear Rusty,

The elves tried to get in contact with you to deliver some goodies and you could not be reached.

Can you confirm your contact info for me so I can get the elves back in touch with you?

Yours,
Secret Santa

The box wasn't marked, so though I better ask:

I replied:

Dear Santa,

I just came back from the local post office now and collected a box from your Amazon Elves (I had a card in the mail last night)

There was no note on the box, can I open this?

Are there any other goodies I should know about?

My contact detail for our local people is 027XXXXXXX (NZ cell phone)

Regards
Rusty

Quote:
Dear Rusty,

Santa is currently working on creating a white Christmas for you. please do not open a package until it snows.

Yours,
Secret Santa

I replied:

Dear Santa,

Sure at your request I won't open the box just yet until it snows

Regards
Rusty

I also replied:

Dear Santa,

The box is safe, since I can't remember the last time I had a white Christmas, do you know when the snow might come

Regards
Rusty

So it seems, Snow is coming to NZ afterall.

Quote:
Dear Rusty,

I predict it will be there soon... Yes, I gave the vaguest answer possible...

You have to wish really really hard for it to arrive faster; Santa can't do all the work.

And in response to all the forum comments, it has to snow in the area in which you live in NZ before you open the box.

Yours,
Secret Santa

I replied:

Dear Santa,

I can't wait for it to snow soon. A white Christmas will be awesome.

Right I am off to wish upon a lot of shooting stars and whatnot, Santa you have already done an awesome job. Those elves you have are the best.

Hehe...yes Scarlett_O is a bad influence on many when it comes to opening presents. I have not wavered though as you asked me to wait. So the box is stashed away safe until it snows.

I will let you know when the White Christmas has arrived in my area.

One day Santa, I will find out who you really are. But only if you want me to.

Regards
Rusty

Dear Santa,

I have now installed the super duper secret Santa detector 5000. Oh and a new weather meter as the old one seems to not be picking up on any snow.

Well Santa, true to your word you gave us a white Christmas:

With a little help

Here is what the letter contained:

I even got a letter from Santa, telling me how good I have been (He is always watching you know)

Seems Santa wanted me to open my previous package:

Santa wrote:
Dear Rusty,

You are allowed to open as soon as you get snow

Here is what the box contained:

Wow, great gift from Santa, I always had this on my list but always seemed to stray away at the last minute when going to buy. Seems Santa knows me best.

Although, just when I thought Santa was finished. The letter says that the elves have been very busy in the workshop making *an undisclosed board game* just for me

And I have been a very good boy since last year and Santa's sleigh will be filled with other surprises

I better go and make those cookies and some delicious treats for his reindeer's.

Thanks Santa, we plan on playing Survive this week. I can't wait to see what your elves have been hard at work and what other surprises will be in your sleigh.

And here is what Santa sent to me the other day:

Santa wrote:
Dear Rusty,

I am glad you enjoyed your snow. It's amazing what Christmas magic can accomplish.

I guess now I have to mail out the package on my table to you.

Yours,
Procrastinating Secret Santa

Just a small teaser Santa:

And for the Reindeer's:
