So i recently discovered / addmited that i really like just setting up a simple or complex board games. I dont know if its all the chaos generated by hundreds of small pieces combined with a thick rulebook, and piles of cards. Or perhaps, it is the smell of the adhesive glues combining en mass as i open and sort through countless tiles.

So last night i thought about all the games i like to just setup... even if i am not playing. Assessing wear on the components, looking to see if the little bits of cardboard are still on the tiles or components left from a ravenous punching out session...

These are some games that give me great joy in just setting up...Takedown is good too....

After a recent setup my wife came into our kitchen where i was stiing with the DH expansion and AH laid out ready to go.

"Jesus, what the hell game is this?"
"Arkham Horror"
"So your going to play that now?! Its 10PM? i thought you we..."
"No, i just wanted to set it up"
"What?!, why?"
"I dont know i was thinking about it"
(Wife leaves with puzzled look)

This is my ultimate setup game right now... SO many cards to sort, a huge game board and the required plano organizer to keep it all controlled, this is my largest game by far.

I absolutely love reading the mythos cards and constantly feeling the theme oozing through all aspects of it. It takes me about 15 minutes to set it up, and i feel like i won in some way after its all done.

I traded this one for Arkham Horror, i could never really get into it. But MAN I LOVED TO SET IT UP and stare at it with amazement. Seeing the unused potential of the large reputation track, card decks... those LITTLE CRYSTALS! so cool...

And i always liked the unique tiles, and how they interlock... SO cool, but alas, i just could not get into it. The plano organizer was great to hold all the components too!

My first board game/organization obsession. I printed off all the potential card deck holders, game mats, and i even discovered a great use of old sample tea tins to store the components. That is until the new on the brink came out and was able to store EVERYTHING. But this was not a bad thing... now i could open the box and SEE all the beautiful components organized and clean. Quite impressive.

Being a game that i have introduced to many new players, this is for sure a game that most are all "Wow, cool! petri dishes?! this looks great!"

As a Chef, food games are some of the scariest things out there. Anytime you enter an industry, its inevitable that people want to get you things that they feel reflect your interest in something in a gift. SO i got the brie baker, the knives, the salad spinners the ninja bread men moulds etc... and since many know that i love boardgames, the fear of getting some brutal food related board game is always present. But, alas, i found WASABI! and the component quality is very high, and very thematic. Setting this one up is so much fun, since its well produced and clean. Bright and enticing.

My first RPG card adventure game, This was easy to understand and fun to shuffle the decks and build the decks from the now 650 - 700 cards in the game. So many options, so much story.... and customizable characters.... wow, this setup is a real treat!

I have an absolute BLAST setting up Heroscape. Building the map, either using pre-made plans or on the fly, is pure bliss. Even preparing armies is fun as you try to maximize the theoretical effectiveness of abilities amongst the selected creatures. I can't even estimate the number of hours I've spent setting up the game without the reward of getting to play afterward...but it's still so cool!

Setting up the game itself is a piece of cake of course -- you place the board on the table; you're done; you're ready to play. Setting up problems to analyze, on the other hand, can take longer than playing an actual game.

I can't actually say I'm addicted to it. I have been known to do it. God (at most) knows why.

Well, no one else wants to do it, so I do. I spend 40-50 minutes setting up this beast of a game. Anyone who has experienced this game knows exactly what I'm talking about. The 20 tile map, the treasure chart, and the monster chart. So many chits and small cards.

For me I love the set up and tear down of A Touch of Evil. Especially if playing with several expansions. I love the look of all of the components, stacks of cards, and cool counters. Playing is awesome as well, but it is odd that I enjoy setting it up almost as much
