A rare chance for a gaming get together with my good chum Adam
Adam Hewson
United Kingdom Ealing Middlesex
Haven't had a gaming session for quite sometime now and really looking forward to some good gaming. Hope to introduce him to some fine games that I'm not sure he has played or seen.
I hope to update this list as the games happen, with timings and results....let's see how it goes...this list will be a record of this fun event!

First up is Westend's game Druid. We both have some history with this game so it should be familiar territory although it is a good four or so years since it was last played so expect some rules lookups and the like. I love this game for the narrative it gives ...anyway it is all set up and ready to go...just need the opponent to turn up and we'll be off!

Quirky little card game about capturing Roman forts. Really fun and quick little card game. Managed three games with me wining two out of the three games. Fast and furious play which was certainly fun.
Game start about 1.40 am until 2.30 am.

Second block game of the day. A bit of a slow start given that we finished Hammer around 3.30 we did get Julius Caesar started until 7pm following an outing for some fresh air and a second outing to get some fish and chips.
Great game of Caesar tonight
AKB was Pompey Adam was Caesar.
Start: 19.00 Finish: 21.45
Pompey:
Novo Carthago 1 Tarraco 1 Utica 1 Alexandria 2 Athens 1 Ephesvs 1 Byzantivm 1
Caesar:
Rome 2 Massilia 1 Syracuse 1 Antioch 1
No leader deaths.
Pompey win with 8 Vps to Caesars 5. Very tight game that saw some significant battles around Byzantium, Athens, Tarraco and Massilia. Some epic play which took the game right down to the very last turn. Much closer than the score would suggest.

Five front battle of Dixie Bull Run tonight.
AKB played the Union Adam played the CSA
Start: 10.30 Finish: 12.15
A game which centred around artillery strikes, massed Confederate bombardment which eventually attritted the Union forces. This was followed up by the CSA making several late dashes across the board to effectively sieze control on three fronts!

Three games of Hannibal from this set of games.
Game 1: A bit of a rules flub but, didn't really significantly change the game result. AKB Carthage vs Adam Rome. Carthage victory by gaining Hispania Citertia, Corsica, Cannae.
Game 2: Proper rules this time. AKB Carthage vs Adam Rome. Carthage victory by eliminating all Romans. All navies destroyed both sides. Roman Legion left stranded on Corsica.
Game 3: AKB Rome vs Adam Carthage. Rome victory when Carthage realised that she could no longer stop Rome from wining a war of attrition. All navies destroyed both sides.

Played a game of this. Adam was defending whilst I was the Attacker. Was able to set up an almost complete defensive circuit around each of the four white kings escape squares.
Adam conceded the game when he realised that he could not win under normal circumstances. Game was a little disappointing in that whatever he did seem to ensure a dark victory, given competent play. Thought that the rules that we were using must be incomplete or in error and that we were missing an important piece of information. I have the Past Times commercial edition which has a small rules insert glued to the inside of the game box lid. Just seems too easy for the attacker to deny the corners to the defender and thus it becomes a battle of attrition. Will have to do some research on the current thinking about the rules of this game.
Seems like we had the rules pretty clear and that Adam's only real option was to deny me a win and play for a draw. Not really Adam's style. I still like the game a lot and I do think with repeat plays over a few sessions would bring out some nuances that we perhaps missed in our recent game.
