I don't follow the trends. I defy them. Not on purpose. I just know what games types I like. However, I don't play games before I buy them. I don't have such ability. But if you follow Mr. Wallowitz's example, about a minute in this video...

...I don't expect any games to be liked by by me. Mostly, I read the rules first.... and after reading them.... BAAAM!!!! I know INSTANTLY if I will LOVE the game, or not, without even playing it.

Just look at my games owned [http://www.boardgamegeek.com/collection/user/greengow?rankob...]... All those games were bought based on the fact that I just READ THE RULES!!! Never touched the game before!!

Do you have the same experience?? List the game that first got you heart going before you even sat down to play it!! I'll start it off....

I looked at the box... I read through the rules.... and BAAAM!!! I was instantly in love. After getting the game, I was not disappointed. Really wonderful game with early multiple paths of victory and lots of interesting decisions to make.

If anyone would suggest to play this today, I'd be the first one to jump up and say YES!

I fell in love with the artwork and theme, and decided that the gameplay was probably going to be good based on: kind of unique looks wise, 50 plays or something recorded by the designer, and I had already played Plethora and at end game realized the late points end goal thing, and just how smooth everything really was, and how easily likable it seemed to me for a game that had mechanics that I felt were against type for my tastes. Yeah. I knew Capek would be good.

I do not want to spoil my ideas of what something might turn out to be like by reading the rules though. That takes away from my fun. I never read rules before I buy a game.

I feel like it is a hobby and I may be able to get a partial refund for some of them by selling them. I feel that it is a value packed, utility as well, collecting venue/hobby without great costs. I feel that I have spent an average amount per game bought, and that there have been far too many times when something did not look fun after watching a play through or review video, or reading the rules, and then eventually either at the end of that play or a future play, it is fun. I do not trust just information. I trust post play impressions. My own.

Oh my. I looked through your collection and it makes me very happy and hopeful. I did mine by buying a bunch of games. It would get better and more specific with more than 300ish recorded plays lol. You have 5200.

I thought Santa Cruz looked terrible based on the preplay impressions and video. It is in my top 10. It is odd, but I like the feeling. I do not trust myself. Traders of Carthage was at 80+ for awhile and then clicked on a test it out to sell play. I now place it in the top 20. No, it is a constant journey of discovery, but somewhat because I cannot narrow it down to just a love of a certain mechanic or just because it is the opposite of popcorn trash and has a lot to it. I am looking for a nice package that fills a niche and introduces me to something that I like. I am not looking to make myself like things that I naturally don't through repeated plays aka Agricola you made a cow now make sheep for the end game score. You go make sheep. I will do what I want and what I find fun. Fun is what I am here for! And after playing Luna I understand more fully that game complexity is not always a barrier to seeing hints of greatness. Not a deal breaker always anymore.
