Hello fellow Board Game Geeks! This is my first attempt at a geeklist, but I figured -- if you can't express your true feelings during the holidays then when can you, right?!? The following is a list of the top games I'd want with me were I to be stranded on a desert island... with 4-6 friends... during Christmas time... and it's snowing. With such a scenario in mind, my choices are based not just on fun and replay value, but also on camaraderie value and the components' usefulness as survival tools. Because if we're going to be imagining a fictional scenario, might as well go all the way!

Thanks ahead of time for reading! And Happy Holidays!

#3 - Even though this game doesn't have the most replay value due to the lack of cases, it is one of my favorite games. It's such a rich and unique experience AND it'll really get our group of survivors in the right mindset to start deducing clever survival strategies! Playing the co-op style will increase our teamwork skills and completing each case will be a great boost to morale. Plus, if we get tired of the cases included, we can write our own, and that'll give us plenty to do on the island so we don't get bored and hangry.

#2 - This is by far the game that gets the most play at my house and even after countless nights of multiple plays we still aren't bored of it. It's a game where you're never quite sure who's going to win until the very end and it's easy to come from behind, so you won't have bored survivors sulking off to fume and plot against you. Even though the conflict is fairly indirect, this game could still cause some "community issues" on the island, otherwise this game would probably be #1. Lords does get bonus points though due to it's sturdy components which could be be used to make a fire, or you could sharpen the building pieces and throw them like shurikens!

#1 - This is the game that I would take if I could only take one game with me on a desert island! It covers all the bases! Fun mechanics with customizable difficulty; TONS of replay value due to good randomness and sheer volume of locales, monsters, items, situations, etc; Cooperative gameplay that enhances community bonds and promotes overcoming evil; and last but not least, the most components ever! You could probably start a signal fire with this game alone! Though, really, why would you? If you did you'd be rescued and have to go back to work and you wouldn't be playing Arkham Horror anymore.

#0 - Bonus! This is just a heads up for all you people out there planning on getting stranded on desert islands... DO NOT BRING THIS GAME. It's a great game, tons of fun, with great replay value and plenty of useful components... The problem is you'll end up going all Lord of the Flies if you play it. Someone is going to get stabbed in the back, probably everybody. It will NOT increase group cohesion or teamwork skills. The battle for Westeros will spill over into island life and it'll be Battle Royale, last man standing, game over man! And then that one person will have to survive on the desert island all alone... It'll happen... watch out.
