Without much publicity, this con did reach the anticipated draw - one. Just myself. I took yesterday to try to play a few solo games and then record the results here for my amusement.

First shot at this. Learning the basic with the idea of teaching the sons.

Intro scenario - Passage through Mirkwood.
Heroes - Gimli, Thalin, Legolas

1 - Started with Blade of Gondonlin, Dwarven axe, and Gandalf
traveled to Old Forest Road
2 - Bats. Legolas defeats Orcs and clears the Road
3 - travel to Mountain of Mirkwood and out comes King Spider
4 - use Citadel plate and Veteran Axehand. to defeat King Spider and a Forest Spider and clear Mountain of Mirkwood. Have taken a lot of damage of all three heroes.
5 - Driven by Shadow brings Necro Pass, travel to Necro Pass
6 - Gimli with the injury pluses takes the bats. But lost Gandalf in a random two card lost action.
7 - No creatures. Pull on locations. First try was to only have two try for the progress. Miss. So no one to attack and no progress can be made. All three heroes at only 1 point left.
8 - More location so higher will needed. Missed
9 - Necro Reach appears and does point on all. All die.
Game Over.

Well, that did not seem right.

While Gandolf is a one turn card, I need to use him better and not lose him to the random situation. Since he has 4 will.

I liked the game and will try to give it another go and probably will try to get a son involved.

Hopefully get to the second level next time.

First Game

so First Game set up. Using the solo rules listed in the Wrath of Elements rule book.

This game took a while as I was flipping back on forth on the rules and trying to watch several sports games. I was a few turns in when I felt I had misplayed things, so I started over. Re-read the rules I thought was off, but now decided that I was okay before. But I had already reset the games for game start.

No turn by turn. Going the game rolling and now felt I had the rules mostly under control. (will have to revisit the light rules again, might have messed that up a little, but not much in this game).

With the easy level, having a turn to miss a monster after defeating a monster really allows a flow of action to occur. I probably did not eliminate enough cards out of the deck. I was not able to get a cleric with the poison often. It was really helpful when it occurred becuase both times I pulled some useful light.

Final solo tally Monsters 17, Self 30

The rules are a little vague on counting but once I remember to count the destoyed deck's VPs, I had an easy victory.

I will have to try this again to see if I have the flow of the game and can more up the hardness level.

Now the crowd wanted to stay with solo games, so I moved to game I have already played some.

Selected Sword Beach - Battle Map N-06

1 - 5 soldiers, just missed a RWB for both double and single soldier. This set of rolls may affect the entire game.
2 - stayed in Sector 1. no excitement
3 - RWB for Medals. moved to Sector 2
4 - no RWB, so only 4 soldiers. No the way to get up the beach.
5 - still in Sector 2, still not getting RWB or soldiers
6 - yes RWB double soldiers. Moved to Sector 5, grabbed Lt.
7 - must move, roll not helpful. to Sector 7 - argh a random sector and I found the 'must move' result.
8 - still weak support (bad die rolls)Move to Sector 9
9 - RWB skulls. get Ammo box. down to 1 soldier (yeah that is really bad news)
10 - two RWB double soldier (yea!) sold Ammo Box, get Pocket Bible but machine gun takes 5 extra for 20 total so down to 5. but must move to Sector 11
11 - RWB single soldiers, but defense is 15 plus machine gun fire at +4 for 19 and I only had 18 on the beach.
GAME OVER.

I like this game, but I did not have a good start to allow for any maneuvering later.

Enjoyed it and was quick.

Another one I have played multiple times.

Units - Red, Purple, Yellow

1 - at the Void Lock (standard start for solo game)
Zael kills two genesplicers. Last GS rolls a zero and kills Claudio.

2 - GS roll 1 and 1. Yes, kill two more soldiers.

3 - attacks miss. Yes, GS rolls a 0 and kills Goriel.

4 - moved to Black Holds wipes out 5 GS with Door action
activate Prom Tank to kill 4 GS.
Yes two left and GS rolls another 1 to kill Val
event brings back Zael (yea!)

5 - (You should see where this is going by now)
Zael rolls 1 (die roll kills number rolled), leaving 2. GS rolls 0 to kill Zael. But it lets me live another turn.
move to Generatorium.

6 - one soldier, four GS on one side. Go for it. Move and activate Generatorium. Roll, wait for it, yes, another 0. Soldier dies.
GAME OVER

Wow that was a lopsided die rolling day.

I have won this game several times, I like the balance but it is hard to fight the GS killing every turn. Almost snuck out to the last level.

Well, 1 - 3 on the results. But I enjoyed and I think I will play all four games again. If you made it this far, thanks for reading.

Gaming is good.

And yes, I have the new Ogre, but not technically being a solo game, I did not play it during Self Con Fall 2013.

I will be playing it today.
