Recently I played three games named after cities in a row.

I was struck not only by how much I enjoyed each game, but by the diversity of game play - while still modelled around the growth of that specific city.

This set me thinking - are there any more specific city builders (as opposed to the more generic ciy builder) out there? And are they any good? Is this an unrecognised niche genre?

Suggestions please...

Models the growth of London following the Great Fire to the 20th Century. Largely hand management with a bit of area control. A lot of fun and challenge (particularly managing poverty) and also very thematic - most of London's famous institutions and buildings are there.

A good 2-player variant here on the geek and accessible for more casual gamers.

A very abstracted cube-pusher based around the growth of Quebec from 1608 over three centuries. A garish (frankly hideous) colour-scheme should not distract from what highly innovative "cascading area-majority" mechanic. It would be a stretch to say it is thematic (shifting influence in various parts of Quebecs ruling classes), but it is certainly unique in the games I have played.

The cards have helpful historical text on them and the building disks have Quebec landmarks on them.

A game I will pull out what I want something different.

Build the town of Canterbury from the humble beginnings of a Roman well to the major city it was in the Middle Ages, complete with Cathedral.

Highly abstract perfect-information game that still (perhaps surprisingly) manages to retain much of its theme (see my review here).

Again some innovative mechanics a work here, the hierarchy of building and area influence is particularly interesting

This might be cheating a little.

And it really can only be included if one plays with BGG user's Todd Sanders (dumarest123) excellent pimped out version of the Board.

But this 3D area majority game played on this board, does give a feel of the skyscraper building frenzy in New York.

With possibly less historical accuracy if one plays the Godzilla or King Kong variant.

Build buildings for industries consuming the goods available at the port. Having never been to Le Havre, I don't know how historically accurate it is. Probably not very.
