All 5 of us regulars made it this time, to play a few games which were perhaps a little lighter in tone than previous MikeCons, but still had the usual tricky decisions and unprovoked (usually) backstabbings.

Strozzi, Strozzi, so good they explained it twice (sorry, a little in-joke for the attendees therelaugh)

I had a plan right from the beginning, which for me is extremely rare and frequently ends horribly, to ignore ship speed and get 1st or 2nd in Florence and two of the ports. This worked, and kept me up with the leader Dave F (Donald had a rough time generally, Steve Pe got overhauled in a couple of ports when he needed the points in the second and third rounds, Steve H only picked up 2 ships in one round which is normally bad news), and then it was down to the tiles, Steve H had the best set but not enough to catch me, I had a good selection, was a little lucky to get 20VP with a single Architecture tile, and snatched the win.

1st - Mike - 200 VP
2nd - Dave F - 190 VP
3rd - Steve H - 180 VP
4th - Donald - 165 VP
5th - Steve Pe - 140 VP

A quick game to fit in before lunch, so this was it. We played with the white dice added, which nicely offers even more opportunity for screwage. There were some huge battles over some of the big cheques, one of which I came a cropper on in the 2nd round which put me out of contention, before Dave F unluckily lost out to Steve Pe on tie-break.

1st - Steve Pe - $300+
2nd - Dave F - $300
3rd - Mike - $240
4th - Steve H - $210
5th - Donald - $200

This game deserves to be better known, apparently it didn't sell enough to gain a reprint. This was the only game of the day where I seemed to struggle virtually right from the off, I actually managed to put on my top 2-stage show in the first round but didn't get a podium and couldn't push on from there and seemed permanently short of cash. I regretted buying an Emperor's Lodge at the beginning (use 2 dice) and should have gone for the +5 spectators instead because my dice rolling was terrible - not a single Emperor or Consul visited my Arena. Bizarrely the only person who whinged even more about his dice rolls was Dave F who eventually won. I sabotaged Donald by buying the 4-stage show he wanted, he sabotaged me by buying the only tiles which would have got a decent score for the show I stole (but not a decent enough score to win anyway), and Steve H's impressive show which catapulted him ahead in Round 4 was narrowly overhauled.

1st - Dave F - 80 VP
2nd - Steve H - 76 VP
3rd - Donald - 73 VP
4th - Steve Pe - 69 VP
5th - Mike - 66 VP

A game that hadn't seen any play at Halesowen Boardgamers recently, so after Donald had to leave for the long trip back to Banbury, we shouted 'All Aboard!' and four of us set sail. This was a bit of a strange game to be honest, with a lot of cards drawn which were completely useless for a lot of the week, so it was very rare at least in the first couple of weeks for 4 different cards to be played. After Week 1 Steve H and Dave F were well ahead (I had a disastrous loss of a Quartermaster, Steve Pe copped all sorts of bad luck), in Week 2 Steve H got a powerful combo of night-action characters which netted 6-7 doubloons per turn with no swords available to kill them off, and really it was just a case of if I could catch Dave F for 2nd place. I had a better 3rd week than him but it wasn't enough.

1st - Steve H - 96
2nd - Dave F - 88
3rd - Mike - 79
4th - Steve Pe - 57

Just time for one last game, the four remaining players had all won one game each so it was 7 Wonders to decide the Victor Ludorum. We used the expansion cards to determine Wonder and A or B, I got Hanging Gardens A which I wasn't amused by, it forces you to buy lots of resource cards if your side-opponents don't (which they didn't, at least of the types I needed), and as it turned out B would have suited the cards I saw much better. Whilst it was pleasing to duff up Steve H militarily, a rare treat, I wasn't getting the blue cards much, and on round 2 Dave F in the course of acquired lots of them, denied me green cards so I didn't get into those. Not sure what Steve Pe was up to, as he was the other side of the table to me, but he had a lot of blue cards and gave us all a good drubbing for an easy win.

1st - Steve Pe - 70
2nd - Dave F - 55
3rd - Steve H - 48+
4th - Mike - 48
