Tom Vasel's "Top 100 Games of All Time".....OF ALL TIME
- Wendell Neeley
He is, in a way, a big part of what got me into this hobby and keeps me interested in it. I have three small kiddos so don't get to play as much as I'd like, and listening in keeps my interest keen. (Undeadviking, you're next )
My goal was to compile what he has done into a Top 100 List of All Times of All Times......Meaning to compile all of his lists into a single metalist that shows a single overall value for each game. I will probably do this again next year, unless he yells at me.
Here is the methodology of what I've done. I have taken every top 100 list he's done since 2006 and plugged in the assigned ranks for each game and developed an average. If a game has only 1 year that it was ranked, it gets averaged by that one year. However, if a game falls off of the list, every subsequent year that it is not ranked it is considered to be ranked as 101 on Tom's list. Therefore, if a game is ranked 15 in its first year of 2008, but not ranked again it would be the equivalent of:
This game would have an average rank of 86.67 in my method. This methodology skews things to the newer games, i.e. it punishes older games that fall off of the list as compared to similar newer games that have not fallen off of the list. But in my thinking, this is what Tom would like to have represented so that is how I did it. It's thematic, not worker placement. I'm sure there are statisticians out there that would tell me that this is not an appropriate way to do it, but here we are. This is just for fun, so don't take any of my list too seriously.
1. Most recent year breaks any ties.
2. The only years that are included are 2006 to current.
