We realized the other day the reason we love Attika so much is that there are two very different ways to win. Curious if there are other games like it

There are a lot of ways to win at Magic.

1) Reduce opponents life total to zero or lower.
2) Cause them to need to draw more than their entire library.
3) Give them ten or more poison counters.
4) Play a card that states you win, or that your opponent(s) lose.

Such as:

(And that isn't even all of them!)

There are several ways to win at Innovation. The two main ones are by getting enough Great Achievements, or failing that, having the highest score when the game ends.

But in the cards that become available late in the game, there must be at least half a dozen "sudden death" ways to win, each one radically different from the others. Some people decry the chaotic endings this can give the game at times, but if you don't mind a chaotic game now and then, this one has two things going for it in a big way: it's deep enough to be challenging and it plays quickly enough that it won't consume your entire gaming session...unless you want it to, of course....

There are zillions of games with multiple ways to win!

E.g. Havannah is pure abstract strategy game, played on a hexhex (a bunch of hexes arranged into a larger hexagon map).

Win by making a continuous group which:

1. connects 2 different corners of the board
2. connects 3 different sides of the board
3. surrounds one or more interior hexes

Strategy often involves threatening one type of win to build your potential to win a different way.

E.g. in Combat Commander you can win by eliminating enough enemy units, or by having more victory points when the game ends due to time running out.

Players can win in either of two ways:

SUDDEN DEATH: The British player wins by capturing Quebec. The French player wins by capturing eithe Boston or New York. Game over.

POINT VICTORY: The player with the most victory points wins when the game is ended. The game ends when a player has either (a) no more cubes left in his/her pool, or (b) no more disks left in his/her pool. After that player has completed his/her turn, players add up the point values of the locations they have settled/developed, plus the enemy disks and cubes they have won (4 points for disks; 2 points for cubes). Higher point total wins.

It is possible though highly unlikely that a game might end under both conditions. For example, the British player captures Quebec and places his/her last cube on it while the French player has more points. In this rare event (I have not seen it in about 20 games played), the sudden death condition prevails.

I think this one qualifies.

For the humans, there's only one way to win. Jump 8 units of distance and then jump once more to reach Kobol and escape the Cylons. But the cylons have options. They can make the human fleet run out of any one of four resources (fuel, food, morale, population - if any one of these is zero at the end of a player's turn, game over), they can blow Galactica up (when Cylon ships attack Galactica and hit, they place damage tokens on locations on the ship; those tokens can be removed by playing Repair cards, but if there are ever six of them on Galactica, the ship is destroyed), or they can invade (every now and then boarding parties can enter Galactica, and there's a track that shows how far they've gone; if even a single invading robot reaches the end of the track, game over).

And when you add expansions, you get Cylon Leaders. While they don't introduce new game end triggers, they do draw cards that give their unique victory conditions.

Several ways of winning here, as well:

1) You can win by sealing gates - if there are six elder signs on the board at any point (you place them when you seal an other world gate; if a location has an elder sign, new gates can't open there), the players win.

2) You can win by closing gates - if there are no open gates on the board and enough gates have been closed already (one per player, IIRC), the players win.

3) You can defeat the Ancient One in combat - this is an option if you don't do well enough with closing/sealing gates. There are several triggers that make the Ancient One awaken, and, if it does, you need to kill it. (unless you're playing against Azathoth - if he awakens, the players instantly lose, without any final combat)

The players lose if the Ancient One awakens and they don't defeat it in combat. I'm not all that familiar with the expansions, but I do know they add new ways for the players to lose. I don't think they add any new ways to win, though.

There are 3 distinct ways of winning:

1) Political - if you win consul twice, you win.
2) Military - if you can conquer and hold a certain number of regions, you win.
3) Competence Tracks - if you can do both of the above on certain tracks, you win.

Awesome game. Plays 2-3 players (best with 3), and is considered to be a little too balanced.

The game can be won in several ways, each with its own mechanics:

- Military, conquering or defending territories (24 military victory points).
- Diplomacy, convincing the international community to help your side (24 diplomatic victory points).
- A combination of the previous two (22 victory points, 5 each minimum).
- Reducing the enemy's Morale to 0.
