Those with SRMD (Science Related Memetic Disorder) are frequently deeply misunderstood by those whose lives they seek to improve. Perhaps games will help them better understand us. We'll show them, show them all!

More information on SRMD and those who suffer from it provided by A Miracle of Science:

The comic that serves as the thematic basis for this game is set in a world run by Sparks. SRMD is clearly in evidence here. Fun links:

It's a race to build a time machine and get it the first US patent. Unswerving devotion to vision and a desire for recognition are the hallmarks of SRMD.

Given the Cheapass product line, it looks like next step is to alter the TimeLine to make a killing on the stock market before making the world a better place. As they say, charity begins at home.

People often say `you mad scientists are all alike'. This is especially troubling when trying to get research funding to study new stitching techniques for assembling monsters from parts or some other important improvement on a known procedure. A survey by an independent group of mad statisticians has shown that 87% of cases in which researchers strike out on their own shouting `I'll show them, I'll show them all!' are caused by funding troubles.

From the description, this games sounds remarkably like Golem, but monster creation and fighting are in separate phases. It does deserve praise for recognizing the importance of the black market in realizing our goals.

Rewarding players who make a good guess at the year that a patent was awarded will increase appreciation of our rich history. Practice at understanding the workings of the patented devices will train young minds to join our ranks.

The Dexter's Laboratory TV show has already done much to increase awareness in the general public, a true credit to Dexter's PR team. Sadly he still languishes in solitary confinement, separated even from pencil and paper. We can only hope for quick release through public sympathy or eventual escape through whittling a giant robot from soap.

One of my university friends studied biology. He knew about all the coolest operations, e.g. how a simple incision allows smoke to be blown though the ears and how to drain the ocular humours so that ultraviolet light can be seen. He even carried his scalpel around at all times. Sadly, the ethics course required of all science students unduly influenced him, preventing him from the great projects, such as accepting a commission to create a winged human female for a CS student with better employment prospects. We felt that requirements of ENGL 208B (Science Fiction) and a course covering the nature of post-docs and the lack of science job opportunities would produce the right sort of new scientist that the world needs.

Many of our number fail to socialize well due to extreme focus in their outlooks, but this game of word definitions solves the problem by including a `Mad Science' category. Another `day in the life' game. Here the scientist-protagonist in charge of a remote facility needs to sell an alien navigational buoy (the Artifact) to space pirates. There is ample opportunity to show one's mental agility as the other players are often not what they seem -- even the Phone Company employees. A simple, everyday, underground transaction turns into an overwhelmingly complex and potentially deadly set of conflicting hidden plans. Just think of the start of Back to the Future, but have the Doc dealing with half of the powers from Illuminati (all pretending to be each other or the other powers) instead of some everyday terrorists.

Now even small children can learn the joys of creating a monster. No reading is required and the lovable little scientists-to-be will learn which body parts go where. Don't forget, with proper training your children will make great lab assistents for years before heading out on their own (often after a raise in allowance dispute or being told not to reanimate the family dog).

Sadly, not every monster turns out right the first time (especially when you are using your pre-reading children as cheap lab assistants and they get the brain jars mixed up). Everything seems fine at first, but then the monsters end up wanting to demonstrate Archimedes' principles of the fulcrum to small girls. At that point there is nothing left to do but squash them as they try to leave your maze-like lab. Since nobody likes a rampaging monster, the neighbours are sure to understand the screams in the night. At least, after they play this game they will understand that those screams are just the result of you being a concerned and responsible citizen. In fact, they should sleep easier at night with every bloodcurling scream.
