A full 5 player game of this gem with 1 new player, a couple not so experienced, and a couple with a lot of experience. Using my Horned Rats, I quickly dominated 3 Skaven regions each of the first 3 rounds, which allowed me double-advance my threat dial all three of those turns. This put me in control of the game going into the last turn. Jeremy and I were both in the high 30s range in points at the start of the last turn. He focused on making sure I couldn’t double advance my dial for the victory. I was able to score quite a few points though and advance my dial once to get me 5 more points and edge me over the 50 point mark for the win. Jeremy would’ve got the win if he’d had 2 more corruption in Bretonnia when it was ruined the last turn, getting him 5 more points. Such a great game!

Adam/Horned Rat – 51
Jeremy/Nurgle – 48
Brendan/Slaanash – 31
Jayson/Khorne – 19
Michael/Tzeentch – 16

A huge game of Power Grid was played on I believe the Germany map. Todd was $3 short from winning the game on the 2nd to last turn of the game, but ended up losing to Laura on the next turn. Laura was excited she won as she normally doesn’t win Power Grid she said.

Back in 1990 I used to play this game. Gary and Jerry knew that and Gary found it at Goodwill for $1 and brought it. Thanks so much Gary! I was excited to relive the 7 year olds favorite game. I used to play it with my friend while my dad and his buddy hung out together. This game just isn’t good as I remember it. Actually, I’d say it is broken. Halfway through we determined that if you can fish you must, to stop someone from getting in the lead and just floating their boat around. Poor Jeremy had about 60 lbs of fish, one a 35 lbs Pike, when he lost his stringer in the water and thus all his fish with 59 seconds left in the game. Michael took the annual and probably only, Fishin’ Time Invitational victory.

Michael – 29 lbs.
Jayson – 14.5 lbs.
Adam – 0 lbs.
Brendan – 0 lbs.
Jeremy – 0 lbs.

Dave was kicked out of his house, do to tree decorating, and his lack of knowledge on the subject. He knew I’d wanted to play this and brought it over. Ended up being awesome and played with the babysitters upstairs amidst four kids 4 and under. Thanks Dave for doing that. Sad I didn’t get to join you, but I know everyone had a good time!

My wife convinced everyone to play one of her current favorites. She was pretty upset that Michael beat her, thinking it was his first game, but he then explained it wasn’t. She was then just okay with the loss.

Todd looked at me, while getting ready to set this up for the 2nd month in a row, and said, “They asked for it. I didn’t pick it.” He was apologizing in advance for eating their children and going back into time and wiping out their ancestors so as to completely eliminate their presence on this earth. Least ways that is how I see it when Todd plays newer players in Caylus.

We played on the Europe map and this was an interesting game. Laura started right away in St. Petersburg and really didn’t have any competition in that direction the whole game. Gary grabbed up the Berlin charter which got him 5 points throughout the game and then built all the way from Berlin to Lisbon and scored 8 points for the Spain Baron fellow. Jeremy tried to build from Vienna, but got blocked by both me and Gary and had a rough go of it. I didn’t build track until my 5th action of the game, having gotten both Prague and Munich building rights and taking a New City card and a Rome hotel. Everyone took quite a bit of stock in the game, which allowed me to win the least amount of stock with 5. Jeremy made a huge jerk move to build a one of track in Naples to stop me from getting 4 cubes there as I’d just added two. He had to use my track to get past Rome, so I still got 4 points of f him, but it hurt. Gary’s Major Lines and lots of 4 point deliveries were just too much and he got the win.

We finished up the year with Citadels. Both Brendan and Jeremy had never played and as it is a classic game we remedied that. Jeremy was once again out to get me, destroying 3 of my districts, paying for all of them to do so. This put me out of the running. Todd was out of the running because he got thieved and bewitched a whole lot in the beginning. I kept trying to convince him that being bewitched isn’t near as bad as being assassinated, but I believe he isn’t convinced. On the last turn, I might’ve been able to win if I’d taken the Witch, but I was worried about selecting a role nobody had and thus not building my last district. Instead a took the Thief, which of course was bewitched, and so I wasn’t able to build my 7th district which meant Jeremy was still able to destroy my 5th color and cost me a lot of points.
