Ho ho hooowwwwwwwllll! It's that time of year again: N0, the longest night of winter, when Santa Wolf visits all the boys and girls to figure out who's on his Good list and who's Evil. It's a complicated roleset and Santa's had a liiittle too much eggnog, so please be patient while he fumbles with his pencil and notepad to get all the roles straight. Soon enough he'll come around to your spot in the circle and leave a present just for you.

THE RULES
Use this list to record what your Secret Santa sent you and remember to include any comments such as thanks that you want to give your Secret Santa. When you post on this list, you may want to make a note on your profile with a link to your entry so your Secret Santa can easily locate your confirmation of delivery and your reaction. That way your Secret Santa can look to see if you received your gift and you can post any comments you may have about the gift here and you can reply without the identity of your Secret Santa ever having to be released!

A package came for me yesterday that I didn't remember ordering. I had my wife open it and she confirmed that it was games. She whisked them off to some secret hideout she has in another dimension but she promised they would return under our tree wrapped for Christmas.

I think this was my WW Santa, so I'll put an "unpublished Prototype" placeholder here till I get to open it.

This is better than waiting for Dusk to lynch your counterclaimant!

UPDATE!!

This was the Year of Expansions in the Fedora household and my Secret Santa capitalized on that.

So here's my three expansions, and the awesome game boxes they brought me from my WWSS.

First up:

Treasure Chest
Something to expand an old favorite or two or three.

Carcassonne: Bridges, Castles, and Bazaars
Something to expand a family favorite - I almost bought this one for my wife but last minute chose not to.

Mage Knight Board Game: Krang Character Expansion
And something to expand a solo favorite.

This was a wonderful group of games from my Secret Santa. I didn't see any hints as to who you are, so thank you!!!

I'm the only one who has opened my Santa gift yet? Simply because I haven't got the room to bring the box with me to my parents' for Christmas.

My Santa got me Lords of Waterdeep (YAY!) and a howling plastic wolf, which has now been placed above my door, from where it can keep a watchful eye on any tasty by-passers

Santa Wolf!!!
I have been a little naughty, and opened my present early. In my defense, I've been getting many packages these last few days (the Black Friday shopping spree results) that how could I know this was my WWSS gift?
I couldn't, that's how. Also, Hanukkah is long past, so I feel justified in opening it anyway

Thank you for a very direct hit. I love Firefly, and loved the game the one time I played it so far (at bgg.con). And since I first played it at bgg.con with my fellow wolves (Belash, Greek2me and TheSparky), it will forever be linked to and remind me of the great friends I have here in the BGG werewolf community.

Thanks Werewolf Secret* Santa.

My Santa went all out! I actually received this last week but have put off uploading it until now because the image server was wonky, and there is no single BGG image that would contain all this stuff.

First there were the two games in the box, Xanth and Sword & Skull. Oh, neat! These look like some good quirky games.

Then I started rooting through the components of Xanth (because I loved those books a long time ago) and found Hunting Party. Hmm, never heard of it, that could be interesting too.

Then I decided to take a look at the pirate game. I don't know why I wasn't expecting any more games in that too (based on the packaging of Xanth), but I wasn't. So it was a surprise when I pulled out, clown car-style, several more games: Fishing for Terrorists Version 2.0, Brawl (Club Foglio/Tess), two SpyCraft boosters, and two Pirates booster minigames!

Thank you Santa for all the varied games!

Thank you, Santa. This is such a perfect choice. I don't know much about this game but it looks like it has great potential and I love taking chances on lesser known titles that I might not otherwise get to play.

Awesome Santa! I am very happy!

I was torn about opening now or waiting for Christmas but it's been a tough week and I could use a pick me up.

And everything was perfect and right in the universe because a strong dose of Zen and inner calm is exactly what I needed.

I think Santa picked what I wanted and needed most.

Joy Calm!

Never fear, Santa! You have made an excellent choice!

Had some friends over last night who had played Libertalia several times before and I thought it was a great game. Lots of little mind games going on.

Oh yes, there were also some chocolate dubloons included in the package! They tasted like villager.

I've got my gift! It's wrapped and everything! I'll be opening it on Christmas, so look for pictures and stuff then.

Thanks santa!

EDIT: I've opened my gift now that its Christmas, and inside was A Few Acres of Snow. This is another 2-P game that Sam and I will surely sink our teeth into and promptly hate each other because of, which is excellent.

With this addition, I can do a pretty good run through history on my 2-P boardgames:

264 BC - Punic Wars - Commands & Colors: Ancients
1754 - Seven Years War (North America) - A Few Acres of Snow
1776 - American Revolution - Washington's War
1939 - WWII, Russian Front - Stalin's War
1947 - Cold War - Twilight Struggle
1960 - Kennedy/Nixon Election - 1960: The Making of the President

It would probably take an entire day to hammer through all of those chronologically, though. Most of the day would be absorbed by Stalin's War, which at last count took us 8 hrs to play.

Anyways, thanks WW SS! You are great. And my friend.

This title is perhaps a little misleading because my Santa did SO MUCH.

First: Yesterday I came home to find this delightful package at my door

Upon opening there was a friendly and very festive message

And this beautiful card!

And all of these stockings with tasty things (and a Werewolf Poker chips!)and two wrapped presents!

Milk candies are my favorite! (Man Santa really DOES know everything about me) However, I made the mistake of opening this with my boyfriend and he looks in the box, and goes "Oooh! snacks!" and do you know what he pops into his mouth...?

THE PACKING PEANUTS shake ah well, I don't think he's dead yet. Thanks for getting the biodegradable ones.

And finally, the two gifts revealed to be

Thank you SO MUCH Santa!!!

OK, first I should apologize, because this will be quite a massive wall of text, and yet there's no way my mere words can fully convey the sheer awesomeness that I received today.

From my communications with Santa this year, I get the impression that this Santa is very thorough, but definitely a Santa of few words. So when I picked up my package from the post office today, I had no idea what to expect and was super curious what Santa had picked out for me.

Imagine my surprise when I opened the box and the first thing I see is... a homemade Lords of Otterdeep board game poster!

WHAAAAAAAAAAT! Awesome! And check out the killer photoshop skills on Santa!

Somehow I get the feeling I would like this game a LOT more than the original.

Underneath were two smaller versions of the poster and three festively wrapped presents!

The two on the right were solid and seemed potentially very board-game-y. Opening them revealed:

Sweet!

I've been interested in Parade since Stat introduced us to it at Origins this year, doubly so when I read reports that it's a surprisingly deep and very tactical 2p game, then even more so after seeing the fantastic art on the new Z-man version. I can't wait to break this out!

Unnamed Object is an amazingly fun and light push-your-luck game that I just hadn't gotten around to picking up yet so I'm really happy to finally own it. Even better, having it for the holidays means I can probably coerce my mom into playing with us. devil

At this point, I'm already more than happy, but there is still one present to go! This one was a bit of a mystery as it was squarish but indented... a picture frame, maybe?

Tearing off the wrapping paper revealed not a picture frame but a dice tray (Cool! Now we no longer need to roll dice in box tops and other such embarrassingly jury rigged substitutes) but there INSIDE the dice tray were..........

WOODEN OTTER ORNAMENTS!

Oh my goodness, I can't even begin to describe how beautiful, amazing and adorable these are!

This is the point where I may have walked around repeating "these are so AMAZING!" over and over again. And informed Dennis that we will be getting a tree every year from now on so that we can hang them.

So... yeah. THANK YOU Santa for such an amazingly generous, thoughtful, and creative gift! You really outdid yourself here, and this was so fun and perfect in every way. Thank you again, and happy holidays!

So, before I talk about the swag (and I got swag, lemme tell you), let me share the best present from my Santa.

A visit in person!

Sigafoooooooos!!!! Braving some ridiculous ice*, Siga drove two hours-ish each way to come drop off gifts in person and play a few games with Ruth and I!

Of course, he did bring a bag of gifts, and they were wonderful!

Kingdom Builder: Crossroads - I freaking love Kingdom Builder, y'all, and for some reason I've found this expansion really hard to get ahold of. (It started at Origins, where I put off buying it and then on the last day went to the vendor's hall to get it and they were sold out, and then every time I've thought about getting it since then, every store I have checked has presciently sold out before I got there.) So excited!!!!

Mage Knight Board Game: Krang Character Expansion - Yesssssss. This is the best type of present, because I've really wanted this but have had a hard time justifying it to myself since MK isn't hitting the table as much anymore. But deep down, I needed it like I need oxygen, so GIFT SUCCESSFUL.

Smash Up: The Obligatory Cthulhu Set - Let's be real, Smash Up is kind of a mess of a game, but I enjoy it anyway, and so does Ruth, and we've introduced a new friend to it that also really likes it, so it'll be getting lots of play. So I'm pumped to have a new expansion to mix in! Evidently this adds some new mechanics (like Madness cards that get mixed in, I haven't read the rules yet), so it'll add some neat variety. Whee!

And then, the last box, Siga warned "I got you something that wasn't on your wishlist," and I said that that was great, and he goes "I know." I couldn't understand what gift he would be so sure about to give that answer until I opened it.

Art of my ~*~*~*~~~SPACE BOYFRIEND~~~*~*~*~!! These mini-lithographs are from Bioware, and he gave me a two-pack with one of Garrus and one of Saren and they're gonna get framed and go in our game room and LOOK SO GOOD. OMGOMGOMG. Such an awesome unexpected gift!!!

And then we played games! He could only stay for a few hours, but we got in games of Infinite City, Sentinels of the Multiverse, and Trains, all of which I'd been wanting to play again, so yaaaay!!!!

Thanks so much, SigaSanta!

*for reals, later that day I needed to run to the vet and it took me 25 minutes to get my car ice-free, 15 of which was me punching the door of the car to break the ice so I could get inside and get the freaking scraper

I'm finding a theme in my WW Secret Santas... they like me to tell huge, appallingly incredible stories about villages that never were yet are doomed to some sort of infestation. I'm glad to see my santas here know me well, and once again I got an amazing and completely unexpected gift!

The Quiet Year is an interesting twist on a narrative role-playing game. Everyone plays a community of survivors from a great disaster, rebuilding society as they struggle to deal with scarce resources and interpersonal conflicts over a relatively quiet year. The heart of the game is the collective creation of a map to depict the community and how it develops while interesting conflicts and decisions are introduced by a deck of cards (4 suits, 52 cards... why has no one used a deck of cards to simulate time before this game?).

Beyond the rules and the specialized cards in the picture, Santa also sent along .pdfs of the game which included some great reference sheets and starting maps (though none included a village square with a gallows, so I need to make my own for the first game..). Santa also left a bit of a hint as to whom they were (Imma looking at you, Ze Weeg), and really should check into their dummy account

This looks really fun and I hope to get it to the table soon!

Thank You Santa and Merry Christmas everyone!

Dear Santa:

Thank you soooo much for the gifts! I opened the box, but not the games themselves - that lets me unwrap them tomorrow morning.

I received Escape: Quest, which I loved after playing it at BGG.con -- we own Escape already and have introduced it to many people. Quest is really fun - if you liked Escape, but thought it was just a little same-y, you should try it - it's my favorite expansion, and now it's MMMMIIIIIINNNNNEEE!

In addition, Santa sent something not even on my wishlist, but it's perfect --- Power Grid: Québec/Baden-Württemberg

Power Grid is my longtime favorite game - my first game to ever rate a 10, and one that I still love. I hadn't purchased this map yet, and Santa saw that I owned most of the others. Included with this map was a note - "I see you like Power Grid. This map may be a clue as to my true identity..." - I'm pretty sure Phelanpt is just trying to throw me off the scent. arrrh

Very sneaky Santa! Thanks again - what a merry Christmas.

I do love giving and receiving gifts, but I didn't think I could afford it this year.

However, Santa thought I was such a good boy this year that I didn't need to sign up!
I didn't get games, but I did get this surprise from far away!

Oh me, oh my.

Santa had warned me that my gift wouldn't be here by Christmas. You see, he had taken up with Professor Thaddeus Fizzwiggle, the wizard cat (with laser eyes!) that I met in The Hungry Games (he made an appearance in the board games thread). However, I neglected to mention the whole "will try to control your mind" thing and so Santa had been busy dealing with an evil demon psychic wizard cat.

Oops.

Imagine my surprise, then, when a package arrived today! I rushed to open it but my wife told me I needed to do stupid stuff like feed my kids first. Ugh. I'm glad I waited, though, because opening it required time and attention!

Santa was understandably a little cross with me, since I hadn't warned him about Fizzwiggle. He explicitly told me not to open the package. I quickly discovered why:

It appeared to be covered in ancient runes.

I pressed on.

A note! From the dear Professor himself. I'm glad he's doing well.

And then here he is in person! I rejoiced, thinking of the good times he could have with me at my desk at work. My son had other ideas, and asked if he could sleep with him tonight. Hm. That might not be a good idea, kid.

But wait, there's more!

Werewolf meeples! Santa told me he was sending a custom Carcassonne expansion but I thought he was kidding!

Wow. This stuff was so great. But wait: is there more??

WIZARD APRON!

That spoon isn't just any spoon, either.

I told my wife "I am wearing this every time I cook" and she rolled her eyes, which is how you know it's a good idea. I did, too. Yesterday we made Candy Cane Joe Joes and I wore it the whole time (I know I spoiled the best part of this in the recipes thread, but I was so excited to show it off). Well, for part of it I let my son wear the hat, which he declared would prevent his head from being burned.

Santa, you're amazing. This was perfect.

But listen again. Is it really the wind, or is it the sound of somebody running one step ahead of the dark?

I opened my presents and was thrilled to see the second expansion for Kingdom Builder. I actually get this game played sometimes, so I'm hoping to try this out soon.

Santa also delivered Innovation! SaiSaysPlayGo taught this to me a while ago and I'm going to see if I can convince Mr. blue to play with me.

Thanks so much, Santa!

(Sorry, I still haven't joined the Digital Photography Age.)

As I posted in the Gift Exchange! Whee! thread, my package contained two lovely wrapped boxes, a wintry wolf card with a nice note and Coin Age - what a great stocking stuffer!

Christmas morning arrives and I decide to open what is probably the appetizer (small package) first before the larger main course. It's Hanabi, a game I know relatively little about but it ended up on my wishlist. It seems to be some sort of co-operative deduction game. It's the German edition, but Werewolf Secret Santa has included an English summary of rules (really sharp is Werewolf Secret Santa).

On to the main course ... I work a panel of wrapping off and can see a part of a letter on the end of the box. The wrapping "paper" is plasticized so doesn't rip. Is it an "S" (Stone Age)? No. It's not a "P" either (Puerto Rico). It's another second before I decide it might be a "G" - a "G"? A second later ... OHMIGOSH!! ... and I tear the "paper" from the box to reveal the "G" indeed helps spell "Goa"! Oh thank you Werewolf Santa Claus, you shouldn't have; I've been wanting this for years and it was approaching Grail status for me. It looks involved/complex. Now I just need to restock on Ziplocs. And spend time affixing stickers.

Thank you Werewolf Secret Santa, you really made my holiday! See you next year I hope, and don't step in any reindeer poop in the meantime.

7 Wonders: Leaders and
7 Wonders: Cities !

Thanks Santa! I held onto the packages until Christmas and was excited to open them yesterday. My wife couldn't wait to play, so we got in a couple games with Leaders yesterday too. She was all too happy to crush me the first game too, and claims she was already sleeping during the rematch. I'm sure we'll play again soon, and maybe get to teaching her Cities as well.

P.S. I won't tell the you-know-who about the you-know-what.

Some say the world will end in fire, Some say in ice. From what I’ve tasted of desire I hold with those who favor fire. But if it had to perish twice, I think I know enough of hate To say that for destruction ice Is also great And would suffice.

My WW Secret Santa was amazingly insightful and accurate with this selection! When I joined the Geek back in 2004, I gravitated towards the Alea games. At the time they epitomized all that was wondrous about this new (to me) genre of board games, the "Eurogame." For better or worse, my addiction to collecting games began with the Alea Big Box series. I'm still bummed that the Mammoth Hunters (Rio Grande edition) lacks the number "8" on its spine.

Bora Bora has one other strong suit: it's a Stefan Feld. I have noticed a bit of backlash towards him lately, most likely because he has been quite prolific with his designs. He has enjoyed a virtual lock on designing new Alea big box games since 2006: Rum & Pirates, Notre Dame, In the Year of the Dragon, Macao, and The Castles of Burgundy are also all his.

Flash forward nine years, and his latest addition to this series has yet to find its way onto my shelf. Christmas is always a time for games, and I let my family and friends know the titles in which I was interested. Bora Bora managed to slip through. I was surprised and delighted to find it under the Christmas tree, with a note saying "Happy Werewolfing!" Thank you so much, Werewolf Secret Santa! It was the perfect gift, once again demonstrating your uncanny ability to make a quick judgment call that was completely correct.

But I swear, I really am a villager this time!

AW HELLZ YEAH!!!

My Secret Santa ROCKED MY WORLD!

First of all, I got a LOVELY WRAPPED GIFT and great card that alluded to the possible contents of my gift - the mere mention of Cthulhu immediately brought a smile to my face because...

Inside that beautifully wrapped gift was ELDRITCH HORROR!!!

I cracked it open IMMEDIATELY (after Christmas, mind you, which was kind of hard for me to resist) and started playing my first solo game, which I lost pretty badly... BUT OMG is this an AWESOME GAME!

BUT THAT'S NOT ALL!!!!

I ALSO received a delicious batch of Peanut Butter Fudge... and I DO mean delicious... I had a tasty piece and my kids wrestled the remaining pieces from the container and told me how delicious the rest of the fudge was! They left me some small scraps, too!

I did take pictures, but I'm having a hell of a time uploading them, so be patient!

THANK YOU AGAINS SECRET SANTA!!!!
