Out of four initial RSVPs, three were able to brave the wintry cold and make their way here for games. Bruce bragged about all the fun he had writing up a session report for dozens of games last week, but even though I have only three to describe, I shall soldier on.

Attending: Bruce, Mark, Matt, Jonathan

It takes a bit, but we are all starting to grok this puzzly curiosity of a game. There was more player interaction this time, with a few conflicts on the recruit board. All were unintentional, though, and I imagine it would almost always be that way. I was but one action away from victory when Bruce ended the game, and Matt and Mark were close too. Bruce and I both got caught without relevant actions and had to fire cheerleaders from the human pyramid to continue playing effectively.

Bruce had played this once before, and it was new to the rest of us. The board setup had a lot of small islands and only one that counted as "large." Every land space on the board was settled by the end; in fact, by the start of round 4 there were no docks left unclaimed and shipping became useless, and for some of us building became impossible at about this time as well. Mark and I both effectively specialized in the market, getting a 10x multiplier and 5 of the corresponding commodity for 50 points. Matt's aggressive sailing strategy (including quite a bit of use of the rapid sailing avenue around the outside of the board) paid off in the end, however.

The cube tower is neat, but it seemed like all of the cubes were flushed from it a little too often, making the next action or two less interesting due to lack of variety.

Played with Kingdom Builder: Nomads. Scoring cards: Lords, Knights, Citizens. Abilities: Barn, Farm, Oracle, Village.

I chose to place all my early settlements in a tiny island in the corner of one board. Shockingly, this was not the way to win.

Matt's Lords scoring was the deciding factor here. In other categories, scores were tight, but he steamrolled us all on Lords.
