First up, eight players sat down to battle it out over a few hexes of French countryside in the Hedgerow Hell scenario of this team based Memoir '44 variation.

The brave, noble, trustworthy and generally likeable allies were led by Rob. His stalwart generals being Scott, Leece and myself. (yaaaaaaaay)

The dastardly, devious and generally questionable axis side were led by Renato, commanding Mike, Jacob and Jason. (booooooooo)

It was a battle hard fought in places, with some decisive turns and an often foggy chain of command. On one turn Jason cheated sooooo much he wiped out six of my tanks. SIX. Most unsporting.

In the end the result was really irrelevant. What mattered was the quality of character shown by the (our) troops. I don't think I can even remember the score... we didn't really want to win anyway...

(axis: 13 medals, allies: 4?)

Thanks to Renato for providing the game and the tutorial

Next I taught Mike one of my favourite games. I played the Mountain Vargath (big dumb tough goat men) and Mike the Jungle Elves. The Jungle Elves managed to wear down my Summoner quite a bit but in the end I was able to surround and overwhelm him with sheer force. A great game and Mike played his side really well, having not played at all before.

Next I taught Kemet to Pete, David and Mike. Tegan also played, who had played before. If ever there was a game that encouraged aggressive behaviour, this is the one. Attacking and winning battles is one of the main ways to gain victory points, and taking and holding temples important as well.

What sets this game apart is the power tiles that players can purchase on their turn, giving them permanent and very powerful abilities.

Lots of fights were had, but in the end David managed to sneak over the eight victory point mark that ends the game. I really enjoy this game, but I'm terrible at it

Hurray! Summoner Wars again. Myself and David played this time, me as the precise Pheonix Elves and David as the really bloody annoying Benders.

I had David on the run for most of the game, and was closing in on his Summoner, but a last minute Champion turned the tide and David took the win in what was a really great game.

Next I taught Karl, Mike and Pete this dexterity game of flicking your fantasy heroes around the board in an attempt to clear a dungeon of monsters and defeat the Catacomb Lord (in this case a dragon).

Mike had to bow out early for X-Wing, so Karl and Pete fought on. In the end the dragon managed to kill the Elf and the Wizard, but the Barbarian, with one health left, dealt the killing blow to win the game for the heroes.

For the last game of the day, Tegan, Pete and myself were joined by Aaron for this great card game. Every time I play this game it just blows me away, it has everything. Aaron was pretty experienced by the sound of it and pulled off a convincing victory with substantial points gained from his vault.

Tyrone and his wife were looking for a quick game before heading home.

So we, elaine and two other guys sat down for a game of dixit.

The game also has half a deck of odyssey cards mixed in.

A great game with some great clues that got no love (first I was afraid...) and some totally wrong clues getting rescued (1945!! Wait.... It was 1984 wasn't it?....bugger)

Tyrone won

Very clever game, I called it poker meets resistance

I believe it was Jason that won both games???

Jason, Aidden, Ernest and I were trying to save a submarine that had caught on fire due to the engines being on 120% reactor safety. We managed to keep the fire in check whilst rescuing the crew.

The MVP goes to Jason who, as the Veteran ran between us to give us extra APs. The choice to essentially split the crew up worked well with me down the front end, and the others down the back keeping the engine cool (aka NOT on fire! laugh)

A terrible game of BSG with Ernest (Cylon - obviously), Oliver (Cylon post-sleeper), Owain, Eric and myself - all three of us being the CAG, President and Admiral respectively which was fortunate.

The game got away from us and we were limited in using Demetrius, and lost with Centurions on board.

The combination of add-ons made it a bit too difficult for the humans in this case ...

Greg SteveG and I played this esoteric and unplayed game in the WABA collection expressly designed for 3 players.

First time playthrough the game is surprisingly easy to learn but strategy...

Crassus (SteveG) the politician advanced in the political arena and kept a low key profile while amassing his legions in North Africa.

Julius (Greg) nabbed Pompey's civil servants early, deployed them in Egypt and reaped mucho sestertii from the Egyptian and Syrian breadbasket.

Meanwhile Pompey leaped ahead in military technology. Thinking that this equipped his villagers with the Magic Potion his provinces were bereft of Roman Legionaries. This enabled Julius to sweep up these provinces for an automatic victory.

All hail Caesar! (except from a little indomitable village in Gaul)

Started the day teaching this new game from the designer of Lancaster, Glen More and Helvetia to Andrew, Gracie and Christophe, and Tim H who had played once before joined us.

The goal of the game is to make the best dress and rent them to the guests at the big ball, who will hopefully wear them to the right halls. It mixes resource collection, area control and a kind of deck building (wear you have a certain amount of control over your hand) into a very nice package - it all fits together well and makes sense.

I haven't had a chance to play with less than five yet, but I suspect four might be the best count as you will have a better ability to plan ahead. Still it's really fun with five.

And I made the prettiest dresses at the ball to win the game.

After making beautiful dresses, we (myself, Tim, Christophe and Adrian) competed to see who could become the next moon priestess in this older Stefan Feld game.

It's his usual point salad type game, and many complain about the completely irrelevant, pasted on theme, but I like it a lot all the same.

You have a ring of smaller islands that provide the actions and a centre island where you can send your novices into a temple to earn points.

To take action two of your novices have to jump off an island to activate, which is pretty nonsensical, but doesn't detract from the game for me. (Actually, I have to admit, it kind of adds to it)

Christophe caught a few very unlucky breaks (and at least a couple of 'revenge' moves), and in the end Tim took the win.

Adrian taught Tim, Amy, Kim and myself this, the end Resistance themed version of Coup.

Another of those micro games that are so popular at the moment, players have two card face down in front of them and a list of actions to choose from. There are three actions anyone can take, and each character has an action or two specific to them. You can take any action you like, but if you are pretending to have a character and you don't, and someone calls your bluff, you lose one 'life' (one of the two cards in front of you). If you lose both, you're out.

Last person standing wins.

We played four games back to back. Amy won two, Kim and I each won one.

Really glad I backed the kickstarter of this one, and really recommend folks check it out!

Adrian taught the same group Libertalia.

I had convinced myself this game wouldn't work for me, from reviews, but it is really clever and fun, even if I was pretty average at it.

Players have a crew of nine cards (identical, but randomly drawn from game to game, so there's still some randomness to the combinations of cards).

Cards are played simultaneously, then sorted in ascending order, powers are resolved at the appropriate time, and then players collect booty (it's pirate themed)

Very clever, I thought. Might even pick up a copy for myself.

Despite having a migraine come on, Adrian managed to steal the win in the last round.

Then I taught the same group another classic card game filler.

We played both scoring variants included in the box. It's funny what a difference to the game they make. I think this might have been Tim then me who won again, but I wouldn't swear to it.
