We've all had that tense moment when the game became more than a game. When the movement of pieces and roll of the die wasn't about strategy, it was about getting even. When your assault on the enemy positions was a personal attack on your friend.

Well maybe not all of us have lost control like that but I did more than once. I went back and appologized when I was at fault, which was almost always, but at the time it seemed like the other person was the problem.

There may be other lists like this, but this one is mine. You are welcome to contribute and share your own strange stories of gaming fun gone horribly wrong.

I really did like this game, still play occasionally but I don't buy new cards anymore.

I had a deck that really worked well and while I was deployed I had a target audience and we all used to play quite often. Playing with my buddy I made a joke and placed a lingering death on one of his dudes. He played a remedy and threw the card at me, he apologized. Another time a dude and I were joking and then all of a sudden he starts making negative comments about me and my job which made the rest of our time together awkward. Really awkward becasue we were different ranks...blush

And then there was the pre-whatever tournament in San Jose where my opponent called the judge over for delay of game and continued complaining loudly that I was too slow. Sorry, I did not read all of the cards before coming to the tournament. I had enjoyed tourneys up to that time. His outbursts contributed to my analysis paralysis and I took my time because good decisions make the game. We finished all games under the time limit but this soured me on organized play with unknown folks.

In High School we loved this game. Two friends were always the Feds I and another guy were the Romulan/Klingon team. I always felt the Federation was too overpowered and when I occasionally won a match I felt like it was an accomplishment. After one such win; things became heated when my pizos decided to buy things with the left over points to even out the ships. I complained that the fleets were already unbalanced and if they bought more things they would need to spend it evenly on things like shields, hull etc...not power and phasers. I should have not played that game because we were all on heightened alert and my Klingon buddy wanted to appease the feds by agreeing and being nice. I turned on him too. That was the last game Praetor Zaphod played of Starfleet Battles.

And then there was the time I changed my Paladin to and Anti-Paladin in the middle of a D&D game because I was mad at my buddy for some reason. This was in college and was embarrassing. My gaming group forgave me but that one signaled the end of D&D for me, I couldn't get back into it after that. I don't even know if I knew why I was mad at my buddy, probably because he was taking the game too seriously. Fortunately I didn't have that problem. angry

A while back I was at a friend’s house for a gaming day. All games up to this one went well and then when BSG was suggested half of us were luke-warm to not interested. Our host hadn't played it so we went with it. 3 of 5 players were not interested or were having a hard time getting the game and the Ceylon mechanic was especially aggravating. We would take breaks in between the game phases that didn't involve everyone and actually started up a filler game while we were awaiting some deliberation with the BSG mechanics.

My buddy was infuriated with us and took it out on me on the drive back home. I made it w/o accident only by the grace of God. Fortunately I was wearing my brown trousers. This was the end of BSG for me, but fortunately not our friendship.
