With what game did you bid the year 2013 farewell?
(And here is the obligatory sister geeklist: What was your first game of 2014?)

Isn't paranoia one of the most festive of feelings?
I played this one around supper time with my three girls. At the halfway point, the game turned into a vicious battle between my two youngest (10 and 12) in the Cylon camp, and my oldest (16) and me in the human camp.
We lost by a narrow margin, about two turns away from our final jump. An epic game that deserved to be our last game of 2013.

After a long game of Scoundrels of Skullport, which is excellent, we sat down to try Love Letter.
I wasn't expecting much and did not understand the hype. I understand now. What a pleasant surprise.

Alhambra was one of the first games I bought last January when I had my interest in board games rekindled. My wife and I closed the year with 2 2p games of this gem.

A great game, in which my opponent Dan and I reached the midpoint of the campaign on the morning of New Year's Eve. This session will be remembered mostly for my Guards infantry Corps successfully defending the Chir River crossing against Dan's vaunted 11th Panzer Division! Long live mother Russia!

We celebrated the changing of the year playing some co-operative boardgames. We started with Arkham Horror, and continued with Pathfinder.
Very fitting last game it was, too. Pathfinder became my second most played game for the year 2013 (behind Love Letter), and last night saw us take our 3rd group of adventurers through 2 scenarios from the Burnt Offerings adventure deck. In fact, we passed from 2013 to 2014 while playing the latter of the two scenarios. A great way to do so, too!

The game was a great success. Not least of all because (except for my girlfriend and me) it was a table full of non-gamers, who immediately enjoyed the theme and humour of the game, while not worrying too much about strategies and competitive play.
The call-in markers are still the biggest headache the game offers. And every time I feel that I have a handle on them after we wrap up the game, only to have forgotten about it the next time I play. Admittedly, it had been more than a year.

With my wife, her sister and her parents.
My mother-in-law terrorised us with the flying sorcerers, my father-in-law kept his declined trolls on the board for ages, getting him loads of points as he expanded with his skeletons, I got early lands with amazons, my wife's elves were butchered by the sorcerers and my sis-in-law sneakily toom and declined the wealthy dwarves within a turn.
In the end my father-in-law and I both had 81 points and he won the tie break. Mother-in-law came third. Not bad for first timers!

We ended the year playing this game for the first and second time. I won both games (second one by a lot). We are still learning stratigies and right now we dont seem to move the panda much but rather grow a ton and do zones. I might try to go for panda objective victory next time.
won with zones the first time and garderner the second. (yes i had other objectives but i tend to favor one type each game.)

Not counting both pbem games that ended on the 31st, I played this for the first time on the 29th and it was my last face-to-face game of the year. Oh, wait... it's a solo game, so my last non-virtual game of the year.

I love almost all games, play Boardgames with my wife, have three kids, generally enjoy cats and understand and like those bumper stickers with the little fishies sprouting legs.
This happy cat is excited about new board games!

Despite bringing several good party games to last night's New Year's event no games were played... so my final game of 2013 was played at Monday's miniature night when I got my last tournament practice game before a coming tournament. I tried one last revision to the makeup of my list that I liked a lot and will be bringing to the tournament. My poor opponent brought a list that was very reliant on armor and my army was deceptively good at eating armor so when he put himself in position to get charged his entire left flank disappeared around turn 3 and it was game over. Hopefully the tournament goes as well for me!

Lots of fun to play such a game all of a sudden, mindless fun, but fun nonetheless

I got this for my son, Noah (4) for Christmas. We played it twice last night before he went to bed. Noah beat me the first game, and we tied on the second game.
It was our first time playing this game and we both had a ton of fun!
After he went to bed, I played Kingdom Hearts until the new year, and then went to bed and read IT by Stephen King until I fell asleep. Haha. I'm a party animal, ya'll!

My Son pulled this out on the 30th. We played two games, of which I won both, although the second game was close.
I haven't played this in a long time, so it was nice to get a play in for the year.
