Hamster Rules: War Chronicles from a Galaxy of Games!
- JuliaAmor, sola lex
Ok folks, this GeekList is dedicated to the challenges I accepted for 2014. Essentially, I'd like to track down three different things:Recommend
a) progresses in the first list of 10 games I entered for SilvaShado's 10 Times 10 Games contest. The first list is entirely made of Ameritrash games which, at the moment, are the favorite in my collection
b) progresses in the second list of 10 games I entered for the same contest. This list is made of Eurogames that I never (or hardly ever) had a chance to play entirely (some rounds were played to "test" the game, but we've never been through an entire match, from the beginning to the end); they are quite longish, in some cases, with the additional internal challenge of resolving and entire 1825 game (all units in) for the 18xx.
c) progresses in the additional challenge related to Geeky goals and New Year's Resolutions, where I considered the paucity of games played in the LCG sector, and decided to do something at this regard.
For reasons of simplicity, I'll enter all the items in alphabetical order, regardless of whether they are link to challenge a), b) or c), and put a reference inside the game's description.
This should be the most organic way to keep track of everything.
EDIT: After starting two different lists for the 10x10 (and having failed both in hardcore mode), after lerning that good will is not often enough to go where no hamster was ever before, and especially after one year of intense boardgaming, I'm able to see the many mistakes (both tactical and stragical!) done while creating the first Hamster Rules! geeklist. First of all, I entered far too many games. Some of them I couldn't play because we never had the time to do so (sorry Mark, Red Winter is still on my "oh, my God, I wanna play that one" list, but we never had the time to really afford the rules and to have one month to enjoy properly the game); some others were not played because we wanted to be at least three or maybe four to enjoy them more (Madeira, for instance); finally some others were never played because they are too bad and after a couple of plays we never had the desire to spend 20 hours of our life playing the remaining 7-8 plays. It's worth noticing that in the last year my activity as playtester increased hugely, which is good, but also drained my gaming time in which I could pick up which games to play and which not. All these things will be taken into account for next year's list. The Hamster Rules: War Chronicles from a Galaxy of Games! (2015) will be something totally different. I'll certainly enter the games for next year's 10x10 (I'll try both versions, hardcore and normal), but I'll add the games to the list as soon as I start playing them. Additionally, I'll use the GL to talk about the games I'm enjoying the most, providing reports for the most interesting sessions and reviewing the games. Not reviewing games after one play, but after several. Hopefully sparkling some good debates about the aforementioned strategy and tactics. So, please, if you were interested in this list, subscribe to the next one, and let's walk together a little more.
