When I typed out my first session report, it was to demonstrate how the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game is capable of providing a great, memorable experience despite the simplistic premise of encounter, roll dice, repeat. Despite this foursome not being my preferred group, I decided to take these guys further down the rabbit hole. With the next chapter, the Skinsaw Murders, looming in the horizon, I decided to put this list together given that the session reports are going to be spread throughout several forums. This would also be an experiment to me on how to format these for other games played solo or otherwise, if it is worth it.

Again, many thanks to Mike Selinker and company, as well as Paizo, for making this great experiential game.

This is the unplanned thread that started it all. I typed this one up immediately while the magic is still fresh in mind, and while today I am hard pressed to remember exact details, I can still remember the elation of finding Jubrayl Vishki in the last possible turn of the game.

This still isn't quite planned. I wanted to do a session report with more detail, so I started typing out what happened turn by turn. A history of creative writing during high school seems to have spilled over, as I gave details each time I wrote one bit of the session to capture how I felt. I then added the backpack report at the beginning afterwards so that there is a reference to what each adventurer had at his disposal.

Many thanks to Cal Corum for making the character tracker app for the Android. This is what made the backpack report for this session possible.

I hope you are clicking the session link before reading what happens here... perhaps I should put stuff in spoilers? What doesn't go in spoilers is the thanks to those who were kind to point out my mistakes. (Jason Kratz for the Waterfront clarification, and Nathaniel Gousset for the one in the spoilers.) In this case, it changes the story as well as helping me understand the cards better.

Spoiler (click to reveal)
This is the first scenario I failed. I actually thought I got this one down to the wire, but a recount revealed my error.

There is actually one other error I made, which is the (mis)use of Aldern Foxglove. I only figured this out while watching one of Tim Norris' video playthroughs, but with none of the items I got from Ven Vinder ever being used, it didn't matter too much in the end.

I wasn't exactly planning to play this day as it was supposed to be "sleeve 600+ cards" day. However, I got it done and I wanted to try out the new dice and hopefully dispel (or prove) that the dice that come with the game are cursed...

Until now, I still could not believed what happened in this game. While I wasn't exactly sure-to-lose this scenario, my goof up and a mad scramble to not let one character die resulted in this...

(Again, thanks to Jason Kratz for the correction on my battle with the Siren. Thankfully, it didn't quite matter, but it goes to show that the faster I go and the more I assume, the more I goof up.)

If there is one thing important here I learned here, it is that the game is open-ended enough that multiple strategies are viable. Admittedly, I started to get greedy, but Scott Smart gave a more sensible suggestion if you should find yourself in this scenario...

I'm spoiling it now: Burnt Offerings ended with a bang. I enjoyed this chapter of Rise of the Runelords, and can't wait to go into the Skinsaw Murders. Session reports from that will be posted on that forum, which is kind of why I figured I should try putting up this geeklist together.

Will our four adventurers survive all the way to the end? How will it change them? That remains to be seen... stay tuned.

This is probably the first adventure that had an "A-Team" feel. No, not the feeling that they were the greatest, but that they managed to work together and execute a plan. Admittedly, there were some flaws, and enough chances where a bad roll could have ended this one in failure, but things are starting to look up for this group.

This one is probably the most hyped scenario of this adventure pack. After playing it, my take on Iesha is that she is meant to characterize the traditional horror genre by having a malevolent being that wouldn't die until you had the right conditions, which involves ending the source of the problem. Also, like some of the better-written RPGs, having particular characters gives you additional options, but not having them doesn't mean the adventure is unbeatable... just more of an adventure.

If one of the goals of the Pathfinder: Adventure Card Game is to be a bridge to the actual adventure game and its adventure books, it is working. No, I don't have the intention (or the resources) to start running an RPG any time soon, but it has gotten me to start delving into the back story of the characters and locations.

If you want to spoil yourselves, you can check the details out at pathfinderwiki.com...

This was probably the most exciting end of an adventure that I could hope for. While there were locations that ended quick...

Spoiler (click to reveal)
Including an early closing of the Shrine of Lamashtu and a 10-card Temple run by Ezren...

... it still came down to the final turns. Having the entire party at the last location settled things once and for all, and Magnimar is now safe.

It will be a while until Hook Mountain Massacre gets here. I'll think of something in the meantime... Stay tuned.

There are still a few speed bumps when you have to pass double-digit checks against henchmen, but at least this complete (and very close) victory should warm me up. While I didn't get to fight Black Magga-- and I have no intention of doing so-- I did get to see how this scenario was somewhat unique as a cross between Local Heroes and a race for the clock. It would probably have been more brutal if Black Magga attacked only locations with cards in it, but somehow that's how the water flows.

There's also a new press-your-luck ally in Ilsoari Gandethus. With Merisiel not having the room for allies, I opted to pass him around with the others... heck, why evade the Sandpoint Devil should it come.

...

Okay, I think I jinxed myself.

This may be the fastest I've played... having two locations cough up henchmen on the first card helped make this a speed run, but left me wondering if I am equipped enough for the last act of this chapter...

This is probably the game that made me the most tense. The scenario's damage out of the blue effect neutered two of my characters, while the proliferation of Wisdom or Survival or Divine checks to close locations made them very unattractive altogether. I guess not every scenario is tailored for even typical adventurers, and hope that the others would do better.

In the meantime, I am still waiting for AP4, so this group gets to rest.
