There's nothin' I love more than a great expansion. You know, when that game you used to love has started to gather dust after you've played it so often that your gaming group has since moved on and grown sick of it. You sigh longingly every time you see it abandoned on the shelf, thinking fondly of the wonderful joys it used to bring you.

Then, like a breath of fresh air, along comes a great expansion. Refreshes the game, builds the game in great new directions yet never compromises what made that game great in the first place. You and your love are reunited.

However, just as often as the above scenario occurs, so does the exact disastrous opposite. So excited to pick up that brand new expansion, you delve into it with your friends. It falls flat so hard and with such force that you can't even look at the original game again without feeling disgusted and the strong urge to take a shower.

Which expansions did you acquire in 2013 in an attempt refresh old romances, only to have those expansions burn your memories along with your faith in the gaming industry as a whole?

I was hoping this little guy would provide great new features and components to an already fun co-op game. What we got instead was an expensive kickstarter package of mere gimmicks and unexplained components with symbols and mechanics not even explained in a rule book.

The components weren't balanced, and the new mechanics didn't even make sense. The random yet "controlled" sense that was great in the base game has since been obliterated.

Legendary was a initially great deck builder with substantial promise when I initially introduced it to my gaming group a while back.

Now, there are so many arbitrary card abilities with such poor explanations that none of them work together. Nobody is capable of tracking every symbol on the board, and utter chaos ensues as people just zone out in frustration as henchmchen march across the city and your hand of useless cards fails to do anything about it.

King of Tokyo is a fun, light, filler game.

While I wasn't expecting much from the Halloween expansion except the two new playable characters, even these new guys were poorly put together. A plain white background hastily cut out and shoved into a box. The new costume mechanic is mildly amusing but doesn't add much. Especially with the overall cost of the expansion, this expansion didn't expand much of anything.

Picked this up when it was actually the Power & Glory expansion I was thinking of. D'oh!

Interesting to see the other expansion of Thurn and Taxis already in this list. I think that the base game is good and doesn't need anything to change it. But my girlfriend loves the game and really wanted to have the expansion. I can't say Power and Glory is bad, but my gaming group hates new rules (I know it can be played with old ones, but we haven't tried it yet) and I don't think this one will see much playing time.
