Looks like it is becoming some sort of Cologne on Board tradition (just like 6 Nimmt being played at the end of London on Board) to open the evening with some base game 7 Wonders. Well, much worse games have been known to become the trademark of a game group so there you go. We played a full game, which - once again - took a wee bit longer than usual due to new players learning the game. Close game but the winner managed to leave the others in the dust with his two high-scoring guild cards.

Despite being so simple, everyone agreed that this turned out to be a fine game, even without using the "complex" rules (i.e. guessing the other players' colours for extra points halfway through). Lots of laughs and accusations were thrown around the table. Good game, I am still not sure there is a winning strategy but it is a lot of fun nonetheless. Everyone should pick this up on ebay or amazon for a few Euros. Money well spent.

I bought this when its prize crashed on Amazon, even though it find the designer's earlier grande offering (Dominion) quite dull. Once again, I was a tad underwhelmed, simultaneous solitaire brain-burner, just like Dominion. Not my cup of tea, but the others enjoyed it and most preferred over Zooloretto (which we also played). Stranger things ...

I might be a bit late to the party, I just got a copy of Zooloretto and with about a hundred promo animals around for this game, it sure feels like an old (maybe forgotten?) classic. I do like the theme, even though it could be anything else from farming or raising mutant rats in a lab. Still, the animals look cute, there is (at least the potential for) player interaction, if you keep an eye on what the others' want and which tiles would cause their barn to overlow with hairy critters, just like Coloretto really. Solid game, I wish there would be an (updated) hand out available on the Geek. We played a close game, but the players who decided to expand their Zoo at some point clearly won the game.

Boy, talking about living up to the hype. I found this flooding my geekbuddies plays-lists like no other and it was the most gifted presented during the Secret Santa. It is a great game and despite all the roles, it takes about two, maybe three rounds to get the hang of it (much less time than Coup for example). I went home and bought a copy :-) We played two games and for some reason, a visiting gaming buddy from Poland always ended up with the princess ... coincidence ?
