Well, the theme of this week's GCL is based upon the fact that I have difficulty keeping track of… TIME! I was late for my first GCL go-around, and here I am again, even later.
So, time can be spent well, or wasted. Undoubtedly, some would consider so much time spent on games to be 'wasted' - but I hope all of us in the GCL disagree.
Still there are lots of great ways to spend time, particularly with family - so:
How does your family like to spend time together? Either on an everyday, regular basis - or for special events that heighten appreciation of that time?

I'll admit, I can be a procrastinator. This can, of course, lead to heightened stress at work or at home, and worrying about being late. Urgh!
Do you tend to be late (or very near the deadline) for certain types of activities, or do you keep on top of it all? Feel free to relate any stories about getting in just under the wire, or being late, or something related...

As for games, length of time to play has become an important consideration. And my perception is that games, in general, are much shorter now than they were when I was a youngster. Many of us can remember long, long sessions of Monopoly; and certainly, my brother and I considered week-long sessions of a wargame like Rise and Decline of the Third Reich to be 'normal' and acceptable. In comparison, now we've got neat little games like Love Letter, short and sweet. But I sometimes miss those long games, particularly my all-time-favorite Civilization/Advanced Civilization.
So, what length of game do you (and your family) prefer? What's the longest game you've ever played in one session that you can recall, and would you consider playing it again?

Only 1 full play of a game with the family last week, Dungeon Petz was the 'big' game that my son got for Christmas. It's fun, but fairly complicated. This play was the first one for my 8 year old daughter, and it can be tough keeping the petz happy. At first she bought too many petz and couldn't keep them all happy, and she almost broke down when faced with getting a penalty 'suffering' token. (She likes that the petz are cute, in a very weird way; and who wants to cause suffering for a cute pet?) But we always give her a few 17b (handicap) tokens when playing against older folks, and particularly on her first game. So, she was able to use one of those to keep the pet happy, and she figured some stuff out afterwards, and in the end made it out with a reasonable score and no unhappy petz! One feature of the game is that every turn you play cards about what the pet 'needs', and so we turned these into opportunities to tell little stories about each pet and how they were doing at the time.
We also played a learning, incomplete game (one round) of the new-to-us copy of Kingsburg I acquired, and it was met with approval...

As Hildur has been training the trivia team from our school (there's an annual trivia competition for secondary schools called Gettu Betur that started this month), this weeks play list is therefore a bit trivia flavoured, ie. all but Pickomino are trivia games.

We had one of our mega Magic the Gathering weekends again, so lots of games of that. Surprisingly few with the children last week, even at the weekend they were quite happy doing their won thing and didn't want to play many games with us - even my youngest appears not to have played any games with me last week, unless I forgot to record some plays with him. My older son has just joined the school board games club, and comes home telling me about all these games he played that we don't have - Chess, Scrabble and Monopoly (actually we have all three, and even multiple versions of them, but we just haven't introduced him to them - might have to now!).
Gaming with other adults:
43 x Magic the Gathering 4 x Qwixx 2 x Boku 2 x Race for the Galaxy 2 x Tichu
1 x Ascension, Balderdash, Boggle, Coloretto, Factory Fun, GiftTRAP, Love Letter, Palaces of Carrara, Puerto Rico, Robinson Crusoe, Shipyard, Suburbia, Telepathy, TransAmerica, Weed!
Gaming with my children:
2 x Bloody Legacy 1 x Flash Point Fire Rescue (we lost, but we did save both the dog and the cat!)

Nothing new for me last week. But it was still a fund week for gaming, as the local couchsurfing chapter invited gamers for an afternoon of games in a cafe. I happened to have time on my hands and went. 10 people showed up, none of whom I had met before. We split up into two groups, and I stayed in the group that played lighter fare. Great fun! I hope this happens again in the not too distant future.

From Monday to Monday I've had a lot of good gaming going on. The best one's being my games of Go with my Dad, we don't get to do that enough.
4 x Go 3 x Dungeon Roll 3 x Eminent Domain 2 x Martian Dice 2 x Unpublished Prototype 1 x Agricola 1 x Dixit: Journey 1 x Feast & Famine 1 x Nations 1 x Taluva 1 x Terra Mystica
We had family in town for the weekend so Dixit was 8 players with lots of first time players. Agricola was a 5 player game and man was it brutal, just Brutal.
Good times though.
