My first regular Sacto boardgamers meetup and it was a doozy-even if I had to leave early to schlep the kiddos. Well over 2 dozen passed through the doors to get some games on. Since I left well before wrapup, please annotate away.

Seeing DavidM rocking a Core Worlds shirt, I knew it would be a soft-sell to table one of my fave deck builders. Nate was new, but a quick study. My hero was Lord Banner (ground n pound), but I decided to go w/ a complementary fleet strategy. I bided my time, going for VP worlds and gradually beefing up the space fleet. Key acquisitions: Eden-discard 3 to tutor for a discard, which turned out to be an extra two turns of Goliath (Fleet 9) and Ptath (7VP). Darryl snagged Anu (14 fleet) as I could only muster 13, settling for a three way tie:

Next up was Waterdeep w/ the Skullport expansion (new cards, quests, locations) but no Corruption as we had a n00b player. I took the Arcana/Warfare lord and sure enough a 40 pt (and 15 pt) Arcana quest was in the opening draw. I wanted to see about the pacing of the big ticket items so I snagged both of these and set to work. It took 3 turns, highlighted by the building that let me play 3 intrigue cards one of which was draw and play 2 Intrigue cards. So I went on a bit of a spree, but cashed in and on turn 4 cashed the 15 pointer. Of course that meant the obligatory slog through 3 mandatory quests. Meanwhile, Frank got the 'reveal lord so can't play mandatory/attack intrigues on me'. GRRRRRRR-broken city. Still, I chugged along aided by a plot quest that let me reuse a space-HUGE. I finished by speculating on an available quest-e.g. getting the resources in hand, then moving a waterdeep harbor meeple to snag the quest and 'score out of hand' for 13 + 4 points that was the difference maker in a close hard-fought game.

DK, Afshin, Kim, Dwayne, Bruce, and another toasted and boasted. I believe this was kitchen sink w/ a variety of expansions in play.

MikeO led a mini Coop-a-looza starting w/ this well-received expansion to Flash Point: Fire Rescue. Others were Ash, MattL, Marcus, and Jeff.

Coop-a-looza continued as our intrepid explorers battled another kind of heat-losing 2 games. Princess and I dig this (pun intended) Secret Santa game. We find it generally plays like one level harder than a similar setting on Forbidden Island.

It was close to time to go, so El Grande wasn't happening. Instead, MattL busted out this card filler. As expected, I was a card magnet, but tried for the crucial majorities. Marcus took the ill-timed but thoroughly appropriate 10 value Dodo. MattL tried to fly under the radar w/ some success. The good news is he had few cards, the bad news, few majorities. The good news, I had several majorities, but still a lot of cards. My hand was clogged w/ 4 greens w/ Green being my 6th color. Fortunately, I kept drawing other colors to stall the inevitable end. Despite the Dodo, Marcus won and I lost.
