Living in a warm weather state for the first time, we received our first round of winter visitors escaping snow. My brother-in-law, Josh, came in for a stay and had one main request: "I want to play games."

Once he got in we went to my bookcases of games, and pulled everything that seemed interesting to him. Then, I pointed out that we had 31 hours of gameplay on the table, and not enough time to play it all. (And eat, sleep, swim, etc.)

Prioritizing was done, and here is the result...

We started off with Eclipse. It was a learning game with 5 people. A 9 player game was possible, due to it also being my hosted game night, but consensus was that 9 would be too many for a learning game.

The learning curve was a bit harsh after travel, and 5 hours saw 7 full turns. We called it a game, and had a very close contest: 30-28-27-18-12. The game was really anyone's... except my youngest son, who's strategy was pretty much that of vulture: to dine on the latest carrion. (He had 12)

Had a nice, quick game of 7 wonders the next evening, after a trip to fort Desoto and the beach. It was a big hit, as several of Josh's game group are still in the new gamer phase of Settlers, Carcasonne, etc.

Terra Mystica was a successful game. We played 3 players, with the suggested set up. Josh noted this as a game he would like to eventually add to his collection as well.

Sunday we pulled this out to play. Having played Agricola before, Caverna was also a success. Having all the tiles available, and the myriad of options is still daunting, but the game played well. Highest score was in the mid 70s, as we are still investigating possible strategies.

A second game of Eclipse hit the table, and we finished the game. Wars ebbed and flowed throughout the galaxy, mainly from my eldest not understanding that sometimes people will force you to back up the 'smack talk'.

Those that rode the more diplomatic approach fared better.

The alien ships were neat. We say mainly alien races so the 'new' plastic ships could be used. The ancients and super novas are also in my combined set.

5 player game concluded in 3.5 hours.

Due to the need to head out really early for the airport, Glass Road was selected for the final evening. The game went really well, and Josh selected this one as a game he definitely wants to add to his collection. 4 player game, with me only playing a single player beforehand concluded in about 90 minutes.

We wanted to finish with a 'quick' game of Dominion. An ap was used to create the kingdom, and we didn't check the cards as we should.

5 attack cards.

It was a slow game, with Thief, Marauder, and Knights destroying vast quantities of wealth. (Goons and Oracle were minor plays by comparison.)

Other Kingdom cards were: Mining Village, Cache, Harvest, Graverobbers, & Workshop.

The Graverobbing Harvesters eventually pulled away to victory. (trashing the action cards for Victory points)
