Now that I've rated 100 games, I looked back over my ratings, updating a few here and there as I saw fit. But there were five games that were ranked with a perfect 10, and even after reviewing them, their rating stood.

Are these 'perfect' games? No, definitely not. But there IS a reason for each of these getting the high rating that I've given them. While the description of a '10' on the geek is "Always want to play and expect this will never change", these five games are the ones the ones that never make me wish I had played something else.

Of the five games I have on the list, this is the one I've had longest. There really aren't a lot of rules to this game, and it's a bit silly, much lighter than some of the other entries on this list. But I can't think of a game that has consistently been so much fun to play. We hesitate to bring this game out on game nights where there's more than one table because this game is always the loudest table...regardless of who's playing it. Out of the dozens of times we've played this, we've only had one game that was mediocre. I had bought this at half price, and it's one of the best bargains in my library.

This game was recommended to me by a game store owner, and I REALLY thought he was just trying to unload a very ugly game on me. There is nothing appealing about the packaging or the components for Hermagor. But this is one of the most excellent games I've ever played. There are two distinct phases to each round - The Market phase, where you obtain goods via a unique bidding system, and the Map phase where you hit the road to sell those goods to the towns that need them, paying road tolls along the way. The goods generally increase in price as you go along, and you'll get bonuses for completing regions as you go. But working your plan is not always easy, but if you're flexible enough, you can aim at several end-game bonuses to pay off big time. No one who's ever played this game at my house has ever had a bad word about this game.

I'd heard many good things about this game, finding out that they were all true once I bought it. This game is competitive, thanks to a crowded map that makes it easy to block your opponents, making them spend more than they have to. This game is forgiving, because the player in last place gets the best prices when buying resources and gets first preference on expanding their grid. This game is diverse with many map expansions and even a second power plant deck that can be bought separately. This game is easy to teach because the turns have structure: Set turn order, Auction Power Plants, Buy Resources, Build into new cities, Power the Cities, Collect, and replenish. But most of all, this game is fun because well designed.

I shied away from this game for a long time because I heard how it was a dry and dusty multiplayer solitaire game. Those scouting reports proved to be false! I love this game because it has such a wonderful flow to it. Yes, you're playing your own board, but it's far from solitaire. Taking the right role at the right time or buying that building that you KNOW your neighbor wants can be VERY satisfying! Every time we play this, I'm taken aback by the sheer elegance built into this game, and that not only can you finish the game in 90 minutes, but those 90 minutes just fly by.

This is the newest entry to my "10" Club, getting it in the middle of last year (so I hope I'm not jumping the gun on this one). Being a big SimCity fan, I was extremely excited to get my hands on this, and it hasn't disappointed. I love the fact that there are so many extra building tiles included that you never know which tiles are in play, which means that a tile that depends on others may be prolific one game and almost worthless the next. The real challenge is to try to keep your population growing, even as your income and reputation decrease at an alarming rate. Even as I'm writing this, I'm getting the urge to play!

I first got into customizable games in high school and have played my fair share of them, including magic, yugioh, WoW, game of thrones, netrunner, and others. By far mage wars is my favorite. It has more strategy AND theme than any other, and was the first game I gave a 10.
