ConnCon 2014 MATH TRADE

This year we're trying something a little different: tighter deadlines. Years past the list has gone up early and just sat around with everyone forgetting about it and losing momentum. Now you see the list, and you better get your act together! As this seems to be the 5th year I've personally been in charge of the Math Trade, impress me with making this the most successful ever! Remember, trade hard, no shipping means you've got nothing to lose!

ConnCon is a yearly gaming convention held in Stamford CT. This year it runs from March 14th to March 16th. For more information about ConnCon, go to http://www.conncon.com/ This is a no ship math trade which means that you (or someone you have designated) must at the very least be able to get to the con. (You don't need to actually buy a badge and attend the con, but you need to be able to hand off and collect games in person at the hotel or possibly meet me in New Haven CT a few days before)

This Math Trade is open to all types of games, game accessories, RPGs, Video Games and whatever other nerdy stuff you feel like trading (comics, action figures, DVD sets etc.). If you wanna trade a car for a copy of Dune, who am I to stop you! (That said, seriously, don't list a bunch of nonsense.)

This list is where you post your offerings for trade. If you are new to Math Trades in general, please check Math_Trades for further information on how this works. Please also feel free to GeekMail me (Matt Loter) if you need assistance getting started. We would love to have as many people take part as possible, so don't be shy about asking for help or clarification!

Questions and Comments

For the benefit of your fellow traders, please direct all general questions and comments to the forum thread reserved for this math trade. Please do not use the comments for this geeklist. Although, you can comment for individual offerings if you have questions about them.

The discussion thread is: 2014 Math Trade Discussion

Deadlines

Deadline to add games: 03-05-2014 11:59p ET

Summary posted: No later than 03-06-2014 03:00p ET

Want lists due: 03-10-2014 11:59a ET

Results posted: No later than 03-11-2014 11:59p ET

Method of Finding Trades

We will be using TradeMaximizer 1.4 with Linear Priorities and Dummy Protection.

For more information you can read the TradeMaximizer wiki page or ask me directly.

Wantlist format

OLWLG is required. If for some reason you aren't able to post on BGG, let me know and we'll figure something out. The wiki for the OLWLG is here: OLWLG and again, don't be shy about asking for help making it work for you. It really makes everything easier for everyone involved to use it.

Direct link to our trade at the OLWLG:

Rules and Restrictions

* You must accurately describe your game's condition, language, edition, etc. You should specifically state if any portion of your game is not in English.

* You should choose a photo that best represents the game you are trading (language, edition, and the like). If there are none suitable in the database, pick the one that's closest and make a note in your item listing.

* Duplicate games are allowed, even from the same user. If you are listing multiple copies of the same game, please make a comment to that effect so that we know you didn't accidentally add the game twice (or more!)

* Game sweeteners/Sets of games must be listed using either the GAMEID formatting (for example: gameid=1 inside square brackets[] yields Die Macher) or you may alternately use a link to the game's page (like http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/1). Including images is also helpful.

* Non-game entries must be added as "Outside the Scope of BGG" (game id 23953) or "Miscellaneous Game Accessory" (game id 5985) and must include the " +altname+ brief description -altname- "format in the description of your item. (more info on this is in the OLWLG wiki)

* This is a local trade, with no shipping.

* Only errors by the moderator (me) will invalidate the results. You are responsible for checking the full set of want lists when they are posted to ensure that yours are properly registered. This must be completed by the deadline for Want Lists Confirmed.

* You can continue to add items to the list up until the close of submissions (Mar. 5th just before midnight).

* Please do not delete items from the geeklist. If you do this, I will find you and kill you at ConnCon. If you no longer wish to trade an item, edit the item to say so and submit a blank want list.

Policies

* I am usually REALLY easy to find at the convention, and making this math trade go smoothly is one of my main priorities of the convention, so don't hesitate to talk to me, ask to drop stuff off early, feed me shots, or anything else you might want to see my Pretty Pretty self for.

* I am the ultimate arbiter of any disputes unless you wish to fight to death in which case you care a whole lot more than I do and I'll leave you to it.

* You should plan to deliver your traded games some time on Friday and pick up your games on Saturday. If you are only attending Saturday, plan to deliver early that morning. If you are only attending Sunday, geekmail me. More details about specific times and meeting locations will be posted with the results. This is to minimize any confusion about who's meeting who where and for what etc. and make the trades go smoothly.

* I reserve the right to remove games from the list for whatever reason. If you are on the bad traders list, your games will most likely be removed.

* Use the related forum thread for questions and discussions of this math trade (however, for questions on individual items, please leave comments on the item itself, here on the list).

Put up great stuff, the worst that happens is you don't end up trading it away. The better stuff you put up, the better stuff other people will put up. Also, trade aggressively, no shipping means this is the time to really clear out your shelves of anything you don't play and get some fresh stuff in there for free!

New in shrink Z-Man edition. I love this game so much a bought a case from the designer to trade / sell . . .

Quote:
Arimaa was invented by Omar Syed, an Indian American computer engineer trained in artificial intelligence. Syed was inspired by Garry Kasparov's defeat at the hands of the chess computer Deep Blue to design a new game which could be played with a standard chess set, would be difficult for computers to play well, but would have rules simple enough for his then four-year-old son Aamir to understand. ("Arimaa" is "Aamir" spelled backwards plus an initial "a".)

In 2002 Syed published the rules to Arimaa and announced a $10,000 prize, available annually until 2020, for the first computer program (running on standard, off-the-shelf hardware) able to defeat each of three top-ranked human players in a three-game series.

The humans are still winning handily.

New in shrink Knizia goodness.

Quote:
The game consists of a series of auctions depicting different events in the legend of Beowulf. Players "bid" in the auctions by offering up cards representing the skills they will offer to help Beowulf succeed (fighting, cunning, etc.) in an attempt to earn rewards of points or powerful cards, or to avoid injuries or other penalties. Players can also take a `Risk' and draw two cards from the deck to bid with. But if the cards don't match the current auction, the player is forced to drop out. Players need to carefully manage their hands and the timing of when they choose to take risks to increase their chances of winning.

Another of Reiner Knizia's fleet of games, this one is about making profits by buying and selling business stock. Players use cards to manipulate the price of three types of stocks (oil, technology, and retail), and the buying and selling of the stocks is pretty severely limited. Short and sweet, this game is both elegant and abstract.

Make your fortune on the volatile stock market through stock buying to earn dividend payouts or selling for profits (capital gains). The key to success in this game lies in a player’s ability to make the most money from each stock purchase (maximizing return on investment) while taking into consideration the effects of supply and demand on stock prices (market economics). While being the first-mover confers tremendous advantage, exercising major shareholder influence on dividend payouts can perhaps give a player the added edge towards financial victory!

Open and unplayed. Richard Borg's entry into the Kosmos Two-Player series.

Quote:
Players are opposing gods from Greek mythology, Hera and Zeus, bent on destroying each other because each kidnapped the other's favorite mortal. Players lay out cards in opposite three-column, four-row matrices. Cards on the leading edges of the opposing columns can be used to attack, which means the combat value of the cards are compared and the loser is destroyed. However, cards are played facedown until they're engaged, adding an element of bluff and doubt to the game. Each turn, players have as many actions as they have columns, and actions can be used to attack, draw cards, or play special action cards. To win, you need to reduce the other player to zero columns, capture his hostage card from his hand, or make sure your opponent cannot use all of his actions during his turn.

Open and unplayed. A Knizia gem for 3-players.

Quote:
In this quick, fun, and fairly abstract game, players play cards in an effort to acquire tiles that are either color-coded or number-coded. Players take turns, first playing a card onto a tile that matches either the card's number or its color, then drawing to refill their hands. When all cards have been played, each tile is evaluated, and whichever player has the most cards played to that tile gets that tile's points. After calculating point totals and figuring in bonuses, the player with the highest score is the winner.

New in shrink cardgame from Tom Lehmann of Race for the Galaxy fame.

Quote:
A fast card game where players blind bid for dynasty cards such as warriors, nobles, bureaucrats, peasants, and merchants. You must balance your claims to score well at the end. There are special cards gotten from having the most in a category that give you a bonus, often affecting the bidding process. For example, the Palace lets you see all bids before placing yours and the Heir lets you claim an unclaimed dynasty card.

Quote:
Nestortiles are interlocking foam panels in different colors, numbered like dice or dominoes, with 1 to 6 pips on each. They can be used to play many games. You can use them as tiles, creating flat maps like dungeons, or assemble them three-dimensionally to create custom six-sided dice. These dice can range from the standard D6 numbered 1 to 6 in one color to any D6 you can imagine, by mixing colors and numbers.

Check out the Geeklist of games that can be played with Nestortiles.

Tongiaki is a tile-laying game that reflects the risks and successes of these early explorers. There is often a chance that an expedition will end in utter failure... or, it might land in Tahiti, Fiji, or Oahu. Clever players might even found Royal Islands to call their own! Only fate will decide if, and where, sailors make landfall, although careful planning will give players the best odds for ever seeing land again. The goal of the game is to spread your "tribe" to many different islands in order to gain the most victory points. Islands have victory point values from 2-5, and having multiple pawns on an island gives no bonus.

Simple rules allow one to start immediately after reading the Basic Instructions. Almost anyone can play the Basic Game, and little time is required to advance to the Tournament and Optional Games.

Great game from Plaid Hat. Unfortunately it's been neglected sitting in my collection so it's time for it to go.
Played a handful of times. Slight shelf wear.

Quote:
London, 1901. At the world famous Portobello Market, the goal in the morning is to secure the best places to build stalls. Try to place your stalls in the most lucrative manner, cut off your opponents, and grab the most profitable alleys for yourself. You can build only where the Bobby stands—but a little cash will make the Bobby stand where you want him to!

Quote:
Castle Merchants is a tile laying, hand management, pick up & deliver game. You play the role of a merchant peddling his wares to various castles in the land. Since all the merchants are offering the same wares for sale, the merchant who is able to reach a castle first can receive a higher price than those visiting in later turns.
