PlatteCon is an annual gaming convention held at University of Wisconsin-Platteville. The first PlatteCons used Greek letters and then it was switched to Roman numerals.

The traditional bad WX luckily hit on Saturday (about 4" of snow). All but about 5 PlatteCons have had bad driving on Friday and/or Sunday.

The following is a list of games that I played, bought, or were otherwise notable.

I brought the components for doing the transcontinental map, but decided that while the maps technically fit on the tables, I decided that there was not enough room for anything else. Since I have not played on the "Canadia" map, I chose that instead.

The way cubes were distributed, there was one obvious build, and one expensice build. Will won the auction and too the spot. I was second and took Government Land Grant. My next action I connected the same two cites Wil did, going for the easy delivery. Only problem was that I forgot Will was going to do the easy delivery.

After a bad start I actually had a decent mid game. Though Wil and Willsa* were running away with it. My end game was as bad as my start - no deliveries. I actually took cards on my last turn.

I did, however, make my Baron and was tied for least bonds.

Willsa 67 (wins link tiebreaker)
Wil

Jerrold 38

*Think I got that name right.

My traditional play of Tom "Nips" home-brew dungeon crawl. We tried the Bone Lord dungeon (there are several to choose from). We chose that partially because I have not had a full victory (kill the bone lord). I did have a partial victory (destroy the vessels holding him to the material plane).

To make a long story short, we ended up with another partial victory (we only have 140is HP of damage to him, and I know he has at least 300)

Still had fun. My group wasn't bad, but I have definitely had better.

Dave "Kosh" and Ben often join me in my morning games (this was at 8AM Saturday). Scott (who I have played the dungeon crawl and other games with) joined when his original game's master didn't show up early enough.

Scott took an early lead and never let up. He got all his knights early and won most knights, most castle extensions and all nobles (!).
I at least got second for knights and 10 VP for nobles.

Dr. Rex has mentioned running this game for quite a few years. I have played twice before, but that was over 15 years ago. I once again played Thrace (which has some plusses, but also some gotchas that I remembered way too late)

I was actually doing so-so until I got hit by flood AND Iconoclasm and Heresy. That reduced me to ONE city and I bounced twice on the AST.

Even though I benefitted by Dr. Rex's Civil War, I was pretty much out of it. I DID get a moral victory by getting one card of every color (though I needed 2 more cards to advance). Note that the game was time-boxed (10AM-7PM, with a meal break around 2) and would have gone on longer otherwise.

Personally I would prefer a variant where you can get by only ONE calamity instead of two. (or somehow mitigate it for people already losing)

Dr. Rex (Assyria) 3740
Theresa (Crete) 3300 (never bounced)
BC (Babylon) 3164 (would have won but got hit by two calamities last turn)
Jeff (Egypt) 2362 (got reduced to ZERO cites and went BACK on track)
Ben (Italy) 1990
Brian (Thrace) 1269

Chimera has been coming to PlatteCon for > 10 years. I usually get a game.

Asked Bob from Chimera Games to get this. I have only played online.

Also got this. For both Targi and this Bob only charged me about $5 more than online prices (including tax).

My traditional Sunday morning low complexity game of TTR. This is Tom "Nips"'s chance not to run a dungeon and just relax with trains.
Ben (who often joins in) and Scott filled out the players.

I took a chance and kept Washington - San Francisco (21 pts.) and got it. though I did get shut out of Santa Fe.

Scott got shut out and was sitting at -19 from tickets. He decided to go for broke (and lost) He did get longest route. Ben got most tickets and about 80 VP from them.

I normally just wander around (maybe watch some Anime) after TTR, but Scott was running 7 Wonders with not only Leaders and Cities but with fan made wonders. (like 25 of them) I got "Temporal Anomaly" which when I build the (one stage) of the wonder I get 3 wonder randomizer and get to choose my wonder (with the 1st stage built). (cot 1 coins, starts with one -1 token)

Since I got the leader that discounts blue card costs, I chose R'lyeh which gives you 1 VP per blue card. (and other neat stuff in later stages)

First play of an 7 Wonders for everyone but me and Scott. First play of Cites (and new wonders) by me.

Scott 74 (55 in science)
